  1. As long as the previous owner didn't use it as a cement mixer.. then all should be okay. Check compression by slowly pulling the starter through a complete cycle. Maybe have the owner remove the sparkplug and check for oil fouling which may indicate ring or valve seal problems. I just picked up a 1990's 8Hp, thanks to Big Cliffs manual, found the part numbers for the impeller, and carb gasket that needed replacing. One pull and it runs like a ...Honda, no smoke or shaking.
  2. I checked the link and sublink and came up with this portion under exceptions for light duty trailers. In this case I was informed they only use the tongue weight of the trailer added to the trucks weight to make sure you are under the 4500kg rule. The "Vehicle Permits Regulation", made under the Highway Traffic Act, provides an exemption for light trailers, specifically; "where a trailer transmits to the highway a total weight of 2,800 kilograms (6,173 lb.) or less, that weight shall not be included in determining registered gross weight".
  3. An easy method to use the pump for those where the supplied fitting will not screw into the lower unit. Find one of those little plastic tips that either screws on or snaps over a tube of silicone glue or glue bottles, cut just enough off the tip to get it into the threaded fill hole, stuff the end of the pump fitting in the larger end, presto, one size fits all. Drain the lower oil, replace the screw loosely, pump til the oil comes out the top screw, tighten the top screw, remove and quickly replace the lower screw.
  4. You might want to remember that lakers and whities don't open in Simcoe for a few more weeks yet.
  5. Hm..learn something new every day, heat does a lot of damage to tires, didn't think it would get that bad.
  6. Yup, 5 gallon pail, 550 cord tied directly through a couple holes in the upper ring around the bucket. Poke a few 1 inch holes in the bottom, makes them track straighter.
  7. Hmm, seems a bit steep for an installation. 2 guys pick up or use the shop lift to put the motor on the transom and install 4 bolts. Attach steering tube and remote unit to the side. I've always had good luck with Sturgeon Point Marina at Wasaga Beach(east end in front of the orange building) not the "other" one. They are a Honda dealer too.
  8. The problem is he has old gas in the tank, hose and carb..inside the inner workings of the carb. Shooting carb cleaner down the throat will clean just that, not where the jet, float/needle are located and all of the other tiny passages. "Degunkifying" a carb requires removal, dissasembly, cleaning and assembly. Then drain the tank and hose. Probably wouldn't hurt to clean the tank too. Didn't take the 5 minutes last fall...
  9. I had the same size on my travel trailer, it works out to a 205/75/14 Load range C. You can go one size larger to a 215/75/14 Load range C, they have a a bit more margin of weight capacity for a few dollars more.
  10. I know it's kind of difficult for some people to grasp the idea of the YELLOW pages, but that would be a good place to start..
  11. Ha, seen ya this mornin, didn't look a day over 25. Bet that's not what the wife says. Happy B Day.
  12. Check fire..check fire, aw jeez it's only Wayne buzzing around up there...lets air condition his wings..
  13. Went by the Barrie Marina this morning, one of the CO's was making his rounds, sure nuff caught one guy, had his old licence, swore up and down he put the new one in his wallet. Make a photocopy or two and put it in a plastic envelope in the tackle box, make an other and keep it with the boat papers.
  14. I just tried their number, 705-323-9111, no answer, maybe try again later.
  15. One thing I noticed on your trailer, the safety cables, they don't have safety clips on the hooks.
  16. Oh, can you please post the reference for that. Hate to see someone get dinged..
  17. Easiest way to determine long or short..measure from the top of the transom to the bottom of the hull where you plan on mounting the motor. 15-16 inches is a short shaft, 20 inches give or take a bit is for a long shaft. Remember that if you add a bracket that lowers the motor, you may end up flooding the motor with big waves that follow the boat.
  18. One thing I learned a long time ago, if she washing your clothes make sure YOUR wallet isn't in the pockets. Oh, and it pays to print off 2 copies of the paper licence.
  19. That must be the Tim Allen "More Power" formula, that would mean my 16' x 6'W could potentially have a 100HP strapped to it..don't think so.
  20. Not trying to play the octane game of which is better, but, I checked my manual and they have different ways of calculating the octane rating which is sometimes misunderstood. The method most commonly used in North America, R+M, MON or PON versus RON in most of the rest of the globe works out that the 87 Reg grade here is equal to the 91 Reg grade called for in the manual. If you want to check, see here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Octane_rating Scroll down about 1/2 way.
  21. In Angus it's only gone down about 2 2.5 feet, still pretty murky. I would be more tempted to flatline off Craigleith, Millionaires Mile or Tbury if it's anything but wind out of the north. There's still some ice floating around out there.
  22. Definitely where the item is being sold, the price is already part of the rules and to contact the seller, just click on your avatar name and send them a PM
  23. It seems the numbers are a bit lower, but, they've only started to show in the last 2 weeks. All of a sudden they are back, groups of 10-15 and a couple bigger flocks. Saw a group last thursday, stopped and watched them for about 15 minutes, couple of little skirmishes amongst the 2 biggest Toms, the hens were called like drunken sailors. Quite the show.
  24. Ya, it came up about 3 feet overnight and already dropped back a few inches, a little puddle in the Angus plaza from the Pine going over the banks too.
