Not sure what the deal is on red lures down south, you rarely see anyone using them here, rusty crayfish? http://www.al.com/sports/index.ssf/2014/04/shad_madness--spawning_baitfis.html In a lot of those southern lakes threadfin shad are a primary food source, as are golden shiners. Golden shiners have been sold here as bass minnows since I was a kid, they are easier for bait stores to keep and are hardier than emerald shiners, because of this some if not most of our inland lakes here now have a " native " population of them. In one of those (maybe more) large southern lakes blue back herring are a prime food source. Chrome and black, chrome and blue, gold and black lures tended to imitate baitfish better for me in the past.

http://www.gasbuddy.com/ Gas prices here are running from 2.00 to 2.20 a gallon, a bit more for diesel, I no longer drive so it's a search to keep up. 2009 since I went south to Florida, I - 75 wasn't a bad drive to Chattanooga Tn, not sure of the roads to Guntersville from there.

I have never been there. If your boat is legal in Ontario you should be good to go here, unless they have changed things? It's a big lake, 75 miles long? Try to get as much info on areas to fish for what you are targeting? A lot of those southern lakes are valleys with dams, some are deeper than you may expect. https://weather.com/weather/tenday/l/USAL0255:1:US Their weather is a good deal warmer than ours, you may only need your cold weather gear for part of the way down and back? http://fishing.about.com/od/bassfishing/a/lake_guntersville_bass.htm http://www.outdoorhub.com/news/2014/02/17/boyd-duckett-lures-hot-spots-2014-bassmaster-classic/ http://www.bassmaster.com/blog/lake-guntersville-school-bass-fishing-part-1 http://www.lakeguntersville.info/Maps

I have never seen any indication that crappie move towards a river to spawn, some of the best areas I have fished for them here were well sheltered marinas or coves, little or no wave action and no current. Road Runners, 2 inch sassy shad on a 1/8th ounce jig head, a lot of different lures will work for them, but nothing beats an emerald shiner! They also will bite real well at night.

If you can afford the boat in the video? What's a few grand for a camera? Hang a carrot from it and catch goldfish! -
14-day actually looks good for Minden and Huntsville

It's 70+ degrees here 25 miles south of Lake Erie and has been 50 - 70 degrees for around 8 days now, no ice anywhere, and the Walleye run up the rivers might be starting? They will get a shock next week? My trees have buds on them, hope the 25 degree nights coming up doesn't mess them up! -
You're quite welcome sir! It was free!

A lot more people here, and some get in a hurry to sell, job loss, divorce, etc.

Actually Old this is what I meant. http://www.geographic.org/nautical_charts/24_lake_erie/14832_1_upper_niagara_river.html Since I had only seen the river from shore I had no idea of how deep it was in spots.
-
I have only seen the river from the Fort Erie bridge down to the falls, how much of a depth change is there in that?
-
Cool, looks like lots of bait fish (food) in the water, that mudpuppy and current don't seem well matched?

How many hours on a used motor is OK?
OhioFisherman replied to Tjames09's topic in General Discussion
Too many variables to give answer, if the motor was used a dozen times a season it's a lot of hours, if it was used 50 times a season it's not many, like others mentioned, how well was it cared for? -
Good luck! Hope you have a great outcome!

My choice would be a Berkley Lightning rod over a carrot stick.

LOL pics, I believe you may be right! They are saying that we may break a record for the most consecutive days above 50 f in February that has stood since the 1930's here, like 8 days in a row? Winter here has been exceptionally mild, I don't think we have had more than 3 inches of snow on the ground at any one time. That lake they are jumping in is right south of Akron Ohio, a series of small connected lakes, a bass factory! One of the few lakes here with homes all long the edges and a lot of fishing and boating traffic, a fun lake to fish.

A nice picture from my fishing trip today.

I don't see any water? -
If you stay sober you shouldn't end up like that guy? Time enough for drinking once the fishing is done? No idea at all when pike season opens in that area, but kickingfrog seems to have a good plan, they spawn in shallow water, and probably haven't moved too far from it?
