Looking for weedless jig heads at Show.

I'm old, dad started taking us to the Sportsman Show back in the late 50's early 60's when it was in downtown Cleveland. A lot of changes as the years went by, in those days catching walleye in Lake Erie became a real tough deal, it seemed like everyone that was interested in catching them was heading to Ontario. They don't have to do that now, and of course costs figure into it? As I recall a lakefront Ontario cabin cost mom and dad like 60 - 80 bucks back then, and it didn't need to be too fancy. One of the guys we fished tournaments with owned a tackle shop in Strongsville, it became too pricey for him to set up at the Sportsman Show, so he started holding his own deal at his store at the same time.

Things you notice getting ready for spring

Agree there, my walleye fishing days on Lake Erie with my dad and brother. His beat to death wiggle warts would catch more fish than a brand new shiny one out of the box. He used to buy them a dozen at a time and test them on the water for the ones that produced the best. -
My biggest walleye ever was up there on a spinnerbait, 28 inches around 8 pounds, a September fatty. Slow rolling a 3/8 ounce chartreuse & blue down a point.

When does your season open? Cold water is sort of a relative term? They spawn before bass and are more active in cooler water than bass? I have caught them here in Ohio casting and trolling crankbaits in 6-10 feet deep in April, they hadn't moved too far from their spawning areas.

One of my next door neighbors has 2 labradoodles, probably for 8 - 10 years now, they haven't mentioned any serious problems with them, blood lines? I think Art is right about the standard poodle, I believe they were hunting dogs? http://www.yourpurebredpuppy.com/reviews/standardpoodles.html

Gander Mountain Files For Bankruptcy
OhioFisherman replied to craigdritchie's topic in General Discussion
Didn't check them all, but there seems to be some logic involved? Alabama, Georgia, have multiple BPS stores, Texas has 7, and there is a BPS not far from the store in New Hartford New York, in near by Utica. -
" Solid brick Victorian residence - built in 1867 by the wealthy timber baron, Robert, and said to be fashioned after his family estate in Ireland " Titanic guy may have been the second owner?

Gander Mountain Files For Bankruptcy

It's nice to have shopping choices, and Gander Mountain wasn't a bad one. Gander Mountain files Ch. 11 bankruptcy, closing 32 stores - WFMJ.com News weather sports for Youngstown-Warren Ohio http://www.chroniclet.com/Local-News/2016/10/07/Sheffield-Gander-Mountain-closing-new-Cabela-s-blamed.html They finally opened a Cabelas near me last year in time for the Christmas shopping season, it's not really surprising that the Gander Mountain closest to them closed around the same time? Never saw a tour bus at a Gander Mountain store here. -
Nice shack! The property taxes alone are probably beyond me!

Not sure what the deal is on red lures down south, you rarely see anyone using them here, rusty crayfish? http://www.al.com/sports/index.ssf/2014/04/shad_madness--spawning_baitfis.html In a lot of those southern lakes threadfin shad are a primary food source, as are golden shiners. Golden shiners have been sold here as bass minnows since I was a kid, they are easier for bait stores to keep and are hardier than emerald shiners, because of this some if not most of our inland lakes here now have a " native " population of them. In one of those (maybe more) large southern lakes blue back herring are a prime food source. Chrome and black, chrome and blue, gold and black lures tended to imitate baitfish better for me in the past.
