  1. I'm a geezer, back in the day it was as easy as installing a switch to ground out a coil supply or distributor wire. I really haven't kept up with all the electric systems on vehicles to even attempt that now! My son helps a guy out that runs a local auto electric shop, they install remote starters and auto radios and lighting packages, he may have some ideas. Most vehicle these days have electric fuel pumps? Kill the source of power and no go? No idea about safety issues involved?
  2. That is possible John, they were located in what is now a bad neighborhood, and I don't know if they sold the business or just closed up. There were a lot of knock offs at one time of similar looking lures, as I recall even KMart had one, no idea who made it.
  3. If I had a brand new vehicle I might want to check with an auto electric shop or dealer for ideas? Warranties and all that, don't want to void them or cause issues?
  4. Benos were made by Mill Run products in Cleveland Ohio a long time ago, they have been out of business for years I believe. Although I missed the first great walleye and blue pike years on Lake Erie, I saw enough tackle boxes of people that fished for them, they all seemed to be full of flatfish! Larger ones, like the U 20 and M 2 also worked well for pike at PAB. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Old-Helin-Flatfish-M2-Vintage-Muskie-Fishing-Lure-Spotted-Frog-USA-GC-/272726368202?hash=item3f7fc21fca:g:pIIAAOSwCkZZSKLO http://www.ebay.com/itm/OLD-LURE-HELIN-FLATFISH-U20-FROG-PATTERN-LURE-GREAT-FOR-PIKE-AND-WALLEYE-/282533934302?hash=item41c855b4de:g:-S0AAOSwX9FZIGwY
  5. Just looking at it from a different aspect, my 5000 series Abu reels were fine for lures up to 1 ounce or so, and the occasional bigger fish. If I was targeting fish that regularly exceed 20 pounds with lures exceeding 1 ounce or more I would have used bigger stronger reels.
  6. My 1986 35hp merc blew a fuse that was under the cowling one day, no idea why, it was starting fine and the next time I went to start it ? nothing. Luckily I was fishing in sheltered waters with a marina in site, I just used my electric motor to cruise over there and buy some spare fuses. One of my son's friends came over to do some plumbing work for us, and he used this for lighting. I was impressed enough by it that I bought a six pack of them on ebay. Aside from being a great little light to have around for power outages and as a work light? The red strobe light is a great feature in case you break down on the road at night, all my kids got one for their cars.
  7. Thanks, never saw it before, the episode I watched was good, have to look at more later.
  8. http://www.lungelodge.net/welcome.htm No idea if that is any help to you, there may be better choices available?
  9. Make sure you have a good ground? A rusty trailer hitch ball or rusty parts in the hitch itself can cause all kinds of problems?
  10. Standardization of parts? Just imagine how much time, energy, and money could be saved if all car rims had the same bolt pattern? Since I am a geezer? I remember when pop bottles had a deposit on them! and kids picked up ones laying around for free!
  11. Condolences to family and friends.
  12. Good luck with whatever you decide to do!
  13. Blade baits work! More people need to fish for great lakes Carpon! I want to see some shore lunch pics!
  14. Cool! Glad you and your dad had a great time!
  15. Just wondered about that Old, every camp I stayed at up there rented boats and motors. Budget is important to know too, like you say, a lot of great places up there, just depends on how much you are willing or able to spend. You can hire a guide on Lake Erie for walleyes or smallmouth, but unless you have a boat or friend with one how much will what you learn out there help you with waters you may fish more often?
  16. I used to have a bigger boat I kept near the Erie islands, the heddon sonars also work well on a cast and retrieve, they vibrate like crazy, some days I caught more walleye on them than smallies, just casting to rocky shallow areas and burning them out to deeper water. Lots of companies make a similar product, this one might work better in areas with a lot of things to snag on?
  17. Never fished for Lake Trout, or in the winter, but jigging rapalas catch fish. http://www.lurenet.com/heddon-sonar-flash http://www.cabelas.com/catalog/product.jsp?productId=739634&type=product&WT.ac=YMAL-739634&WT.z_pg_ref=prd1168929 So do these, and good for deeper water jigging.
  18. 65# power pro is like the same diameter as 17# mono? I wouldn't change it if I was targeting bigger pike. I used 17-20# mono here for bass in the slop, pike and ski like the same areas too.
  19. Not to seem rude, but what are your expectations? Questions for me usually pose questions of my own. If you are not a boat owner? Do you need a boater operators card to rent one? Be prepared? End result you are looking for? A vacation? Catch tons of fish? Or a learning experience? To learn more and get experience on the overall methods and waters? A bass club membership could be useful to a non boater? Something like this? http://www.mississaugabassmasters.com/index.html It can also lead to other fishing opportunities?
  20. Dang Art, my son asked me what mud shad are, had to look that up, we call them gizzard shad here. Makes sense to me that they would be good cat bait, tons of them here, and they have big die offs, lot of the littering the bottom of lakes and rivers as a food source for cats. After the spring crappie spawn here channel cats could be caught in big numbers fishing the same way for them, a bobber and spreader with emerald shiners, just set deeper to hug the bottom.
  21. I fished in bass tournaments of various sizes for around 30 years, I can only recall 1 for sure were no one caught a fish, a falling water level seemed to shut down the bite completely.
  22. I don't fish anymore, but never a lot on an individual lure, maybe 10 bucks for a pike - muskie sized lure. I didn't fish for them often, and flea markets and garage sales here seemed to have a lot of them cheap. Tubes, lizards, worms? I used to buy by the hundred.
  23. LOL, and here I sit trying to boost Canadian tourism! 60 years ago if you told someone here you were going to Canada to fish for carp they would have thought you were crazy? They still would today, we have much bigger carp, and seemingly an endless supply of them! LOL, now the depression is setting in, my biggest carp outweighed my biggest ski by about 10 times?
  24. Good work! 93 degrees here today, the dog days of summer are hitting early, I can imagine people wanting to be on a cooler lake!
  25. If I buy a car battery from the Walmart here they install it for free, as long as I can drive it there. I had to replace the one in my 2009 van a couple of years ago, I haven't driven in 6 years so it sits for long periods of time unless my son needs to use the heavy metal. Never had an issue with a battery from Walmart, after all, it's not like they make them.
