This guy made shiner fishing look easy for his first time, and it looked like he bought them from a bait store? Kind of a cool boat he is in for a rental? Didn't see any pigs caught though.

It was easier for me to step on the foot pedal and move the boat a bit closer than reach for my wallet and spend money to make a bit longer cast!

I was in the Tampa area for 5 weeks back in 2009, every freshwater lake and pond I saw looked like a great place for a lunker bass, and with their longer growing season there I guess some produced big fish? A guide takes a lot of the guess work out of it? Even here some lakes are known to produce bigger bass more frequently than others, and most have " spots or areas " that increase your chances, a guide on the lake should know them?

I guess there is a difference in behavior or perhaps smell of wild shiners and hatchery raised ones sold to bait stores, a lot of those guides make a point of specifying that they use wild shiners and not bait store ones. One of the guys that was in our bass club went down to Florida with his wife and kids, took his bass boat, hired a guide for a day and shiner fished and caught a 10+ fish, he didn't do anywhere near as well fishing solo with lures. Being a geezer smithy, I remember when people carried two colors of plastic worms, purple and black! The color thing can make you crazy? I was fun fishing with my regular tournament partner one time, at a place we fished regularly, flipping and pitching plastic worms to cover, shallow clear water. We were using the same brand, style, and size worms, fishing the same spots with our casts, the only difference was color. I was using junebug, which had always worked well for both of us in the past, that day he put on a watermelon blue, and had 3-4 fish in the boat and I didn't get a hit, that was enough for me to go to that color! As soon as I changed colors bites happened and fish were caught. After that incident we almost always used different colors when starting, dark and light. If we had been fishing alone? we might have stuck with one color and just figured the fish weren't there or inactive?
