LOL Phil, it was a bit breezey over the weekend. LOL I wouldn`t have left the harbor, look at all those docks!

Georgian Bay has some big ones 40 + inches, they don`t fight as well as a pike the same size.

I think I fried the impellor on my F90!
OhioFisherman replied to lookinforwalleye's topic in General Discussion
I have a set of muffs around somewhere, I used them once and didn`t like them. I use a plastic barrel, safer for the motor. All the impellors I have seen were a wheel like shaped star made of rubber sort of like a car tire with a metal center. It on takes seconds to fry them, never start your motor out of the water and while your running make sure you have a steady flow of water out the tattle tail hole. I didn`t get the one changed on my Merc for about 10 years, no problems with it but it was due. I have seen older motors that went a lot longer. -
LOL you don`t use shotguns on the skeeters up there? they are big enough!

Great pictures and report Johnny!

Just my experiance with steel leaders? Go with quality ones, nothing worse than having a good fish lost because you cheaped out, and I have done it. The snaps and swivels on some are suspect also the crimps. I have had some Berkleys cross lock snaps opened, to light for the fish I hooked. I haven`t used the Stringease leaders or snaps but they look like one of the best ideas. Not much point in using say like 65 or 80 pound test power pro and only using a leader rated for 30 or 40 pounds. Granted it will probably work in most cases, but why take the chance.

Georgian Bay Moon River report from today
OhioFisherman replied to Cast-Away's topic in General Discussion
Cast-Away I doubt if the minnow size was the problem. I don`t fish for walleye often anymore, but prefer minnows 4 to 6 inches long for them and have had them take bigger ones up north. They may have been more focused on spawning activities than feeding. -
LOL a lot of them still work. Ya some in the bags or boxes and I have used most. LOL I must be vintage!

http://www.sunset.ca/ Never been there but was thinking about it. -
LOL PikeHunter, you don`t have Canadian bacon? That is un-natural, we even have American fries! LOL Every holiday should be a 4 day weekend!

Nice fish! Now you can be a redneck!

I hope all goes well! My wife`s cousin had a baby born early(way) and weighed just over a pound or two, today she is about 15 and fine. Better if they go full term though.

LOL Pikehunter, we do butcher the king`s English, the queen doesn`t mind, she is coming to see King George! We are fat and lazy, why throw in extra letters we won`t remember anyway? Buy a vowel?

I have 2 hummingbirds a late 80`s model and a early 90`s the plugs for the transducer is different on both, don`t know the reasoning out the fact a new depthfinder probably should get a new transducer(LOL sell-sell). Cable steering for me on bow-mounts, I get in close quarters and want to be sure what is going to happen when I hit the pedal. I like the idea of a built in transducer, the extra exposed wires are a pain sometimes. Cost seems high though for a built in transducer. Never used a GPS so no opinions on that. Getting back to an exact spot on big water can be tough, a GPS helps.

I would vote for it! LOL twice or more for a Canada week off with pay! You deserve it for being good neighbors!

....think things like this never happen-THINK AGAIN
OhioFisherman replied to darsky's topic in General Discussion
They caught a couple guys here cheating( they had fish planted in a fish bag) some years ago, one of the other people in th tourney found the bag and marked the fish, clipped a fin and told the tournie director. At the weigh in the dudes had the fish,er they lived on the lake. They haven`t been in a tournie since, some sell their respect cheap. -
Just the stuff I have shipped up north, US postal service is the way to go if your not in a hurry. It took about 2 weeks for items to get to Ontario from me in Ohio. LOL I can get a package to California in about 3 days by them. Cost was reasonable.

Where would you buy? Kinda fishing related
OhioFisherman replied to John's topic in General Discussion
Just me the Parry Sound, pointe au baril area sounds fine even if the house-cottage isn`t right on the water you are close. Haven`t been there in years but both were nice. -
Walleye suspend a lot, chasing baitfish or water temps? Not sure why, a good fishfinder(depth finder) will show fish and what depth. It a matter of getting your lure to run at the depth they are at. I don`t spend a lot of time walleye fishing on purpose any more, it was my bother and dads thing, his boat was equipped for it with downriggers, side planners and such. A lot of what we did was to drag a smallish crankbait like a Storm hot-n-tot or wiggle wart behind the boat and try to get the running depth to match the depth of the fish. They would get down to 20 feet or so, I didn`t go when he went in very deep water after them. They would suspend 40 feet down or more in 70 feet of water. I fished around the islands, Middle bass, south bass, kelley`s rattlesnake, the David bessie power plant, huron, vermillion, lorain, and Avon Lake just drag a lure and vary the depth until the fish bite. Overall I was bored to death by it, much more fun for me when we got them casting for smallies near the islands or shore. I used to get them on tubes and lures like a heddon sonar or rattletrap casting to the rocky areas. Lots of different ways to get them though, erie dearies, toms walleye lure, golden or silver nuggets tip with a crawler or trolled worked too. Dad had a thing for trolling worm harnesses up north, I probably caught more casting a jig and grub or live bait on a slip float. A big chub or shiner works well. I also fished a jig and minnow on Erie, a fuzzy grub, foxee jig tipped with a golden shiner caught a lot of fish, smallies and walleye.

Nice job Rick! will you help me? LOL

LOL, mom bought a 78 cougar new, my brother bought a 79 t-bird new a couple of months later, both rear bumpers fell off a little after the warranty was off. Rusted out were they were attached. A problem for those years fords. I use frame hitches, I want to be able to tow to the max capacity of the vehicle. Might not need it but better than a do over.

Er, lights? some places it isn`t legal? to use a light to attract fish? But if there are dock lights it will attract them.

It`s hard to beat nite time bass fishing, the crowds are gone and they will slam lures in the dark. I also have not had much luck with pike at nite, weird because muskies can be active. Some lakes seem to have a much better nite bite than others, it may have to do with the amount of traffic the lake(or river) gets. Nite time can be a real mixed bag of fish, I have caught L/M, S/M, Walleye, and panfish in the same spots at nite, catfish also. They can find a real small lure and it doesn`t have to be a noisey surface lure. Some of my best nites have been using a 4 or 6 inch plastic worm or 1/8 ounce jig and pig, shallow water and a slow retrieve with bottom contact, they find it. Surface lure will work too, but don`t be afraid to mix it up if they aren`t hitting them well. Waters I have never fished or don`t fish often I like to get to before dark for safety reasons, waters I am familier with it doesn`t matter. I don`t speed around in the dark much anyway, usually electric motor fishing for me and staying as quiet a possible. Went with some friends years ago to the western basin of Lake Erie, dude got a new boat and wanted to try it out and mix in some fishing. We left on a Friday evening and got to the ramp just before dark, locals at the ramp thought it was pointless to try nite fishing for eyes on that part of Erie, we had our limits by midnite trolling crankbaits. You won`t know if you don`t try.

http://www.rockpineresort.com/ I stayed at this place a few times with the wife and kids, it was a nice clean place, lots of sheltered water to fish. It has been a lot of years.

Solo, I don`t know if it is the best way but I bookmark the page, then come back to the OFC thread, copy the bookmark and paste it on the thread. It works for me and is something I can remember. The river coming into the bay is pretty big, as big as some lakes down here, but you go up it a ways and there is a water fall, not big but it would require a portage. It is high enough so maybe only a salmon could jump it as I recall. Never tried to take a boat above it, there were a couple of decent size pools that we could see from shore, and we did catch a few smallish smallies out of the first pool from the bay. That was the extent of my fishing it, and I was young at the time maybe 16. I really have no clue what it is like farther up. Too many critters for me to be wandering around there.
