Good question and opinions will vary. Water here isn`t as clean as up north in most places, but if I am having a tough bite I will pick up the rod with Vanish on it and try. So far I haven`t noticed a difference, the thought counts? LOL I used golden stren up on the Georgian, braided dacron also, didn`t seem to make a difference, my main line here and there has been Clear Blue Florescent Stren for the last 30 - 35 years. If you are concerned throw a floro leader on, cheaper than changing out line.

Although I like my local tackle shop, and it`s owners, I don`t sleep with them so don`t see the need to support them all the way.LOL I see no reason to spend 35-40 dollars for a hundred tubes if I can get comparable quality one for a little over 20. When you use 300-400 a year it can add up, and I would rather spend the money fishing. We used to make the run every spring to BPS in Mich, Cabela`s in Mich, and Netcraft tackle in Toledo oHIo, it worked out better for us than going to the Sportsman show here. If I know what I am looking for I shop the best price, stores, catalogs. In a hurry and I know it`s something they carry? the local tackle shop, LOL I always walk out of there with something, dudes are bass fisherman and stock the gear. Like I need more than I got.

The trend is towards speed, it costs more to go fast so they sell it! Bigger, faster, more, more, sell sell.

Mr. Bond, I think you will find that history and geography play a part in it. Great Britain and Europe have been inhabited with a large number of people and with a lot less water(fresh). Also the United States and Canada are also able to raise large quantities of beef, pork, and poultry. Tradition dictates the pattern a lot, pollution and over harvest have been a problem for a lot longer across the pond. Here in the states the trend toward catch and release in bass tournaments was started basically because not many lakes could stand the pressure of catch and keep. I am glad of it, coupled with pollution controls bass fishing here is much better than in my early days. I used to keep a walleye or steelhead, sometimes both a year. Again a different tradition, shore lunch is a sandwich! MMM! Spam!

Ya west marine, don`t know if you have boaters world stores up there, BPS, and I think I have seen them at wal-mart stores here.

Never fished Simcoe but have used tubes on a lot of lakes. Green pumpkin a dark green is a standard color, so is a brown color, I like to mix in white with glitter, a baitfish color for starters. LOL I carry a lot of them and a mix of colors. Rigging, if the water is open, not much around but rock I go with a tube jig insert, hook is exposed better percentage of hookups. Weeds, junk, slop, Tex-posed, with a pegged slip sinker. In the evening, nite or early morning hours I will work close in to the shallows for them, but daytime usually means deeper water. They like crawfish, but it is not the only thing for them to eat and I think they eat baitfish because of the supply available most of the time. Rocky bottomed areas, points, deeper weed edges wood in deep water if you can find any are good places to probe. They will wander and they will school tightly, a cast outside of the schooling area might not get a hit. A fun fish to look for and too catch. Just me but in most cases I like a 3 1/2 inch tube.

Haven`t fished much lately but for the last 40 years bass was and is Number 1, always a challenge to try and stay up with the best methods and tactics. LOL what goes around comes around, with a new name. For me it depended on where and why, a lot of my trips were practice for tournaments, first look at new lakes, refreshers for old ones. Trips north the game plan changed, pike, muskie(they won) bass, walleye, fun fishing no particular purpose other than to see what I could catch and to get the wife and kids some fish, enjoy the scenery and learn. 1. Bass, smallies, largemouth, I don`t care some waters have both some don`t. 2. Pike or skis, just because my choice of travel would be north. 3. Steelhead? not the plan, the alternative, bass fishing has to be bad, or is it me? 4.Walleye! I like throwing them back and listening to the whining! Breakout the Spam! 5. Anything that is a challenge that interests me, that doesn`t involve dragging lures behind a boat on wide open expanses of water. Water has to be fresh!

Brian, sorry to hear it. Lost my grandda to colon cancer, dad to brain cancer, and mom had an eye removed a couple of years ago because of cancer. The stuff is bad news.

I used them at times, harder that lead, less pollution, and nobody seems to spend the money on them, so I got them for like a quarter a bag at the flea market. I don`t really care a lot about what mine are made of, as long as I have a mix of sizes with me. On a carolina rig I guess with a bead bumping against it you would get slightly more noise, but I don`t want the fish to hit the slip sinker.

John the top left two are Hula Poppers or spin offs of them, I have used them since I was a kid, they are still sold and still catch fish. I have used them up north for bass also and lost some to cut offs so just guessing pike or skis were hitting them too. LOL I have a frog that looks like that too! a smaller size though, I do leave that one in the barn, nothing for me ever on that. Lure with the lightning strike I believe is a heddon sonic, they also made one with a couple of jointed redish plastic sections on the tail called a firetail sonic just a couple of fish casting them. Top middle I think is a spin i dee? or something like that a surface lure that was pretty common here in the 50`s and 60`s bass lure mostly, some days a lure like that will get more bites that other style of surface lures. I used devils horses more. Black one in the center might be a Arbogaster, that company was located in Akron Ohio for a longtime, also made the Jitterbug, Hulapopper and some others. Silver fat minnow looks like an older Rebel lure, but can`t remember the name. Two spoons are red-eyes or spin offs, we used them on the Georgian Bay for pike but dad caught a smallie or two trolling them. I caught pike on them they made a lot of different sizes. Still around I think, I still have a couple. Banana shaped ones are Lazy Ikes? a flatfish type lure, a lot of spin-offs were made. As a kid I used a little one like the bottom one and caught panfish mostly perch on the GB. We used U-20 and M-50(none huge) flatfish on the GB trolling, lot of pike, a few bass and a walleye or few. A similar lure was a MillRun(Cleveland company) Beno and Beno eel it had more plastic segments for a tail. LOL thanks for the memories!

LOL Taper, ya I know about that, not really looking to become their daddy and provide food all the time, just looking for means to encourage them to stay or visit. We used to put out Hummingbird feeders and had a bunch of them hanging around, the feeders seemed to attract 100 yellow jackets for each Hummingbird, I didn`t want them around! We just planted a small garden with plants they like, well the wife and kids did. I supervised though! Honey bees seem to be hurting here, I have country grass, lots of clover, anything green is good enough for me. Walking out to the swimming pool was a challenge in season, look out for bees, haven`t seen a honey bee this year here. Numbers of others seems to be down too.

I have a bow mount cable steer, I have also used a transom mount hand steer. The bow mount is the third for me, all cable steer, I prefer them and wouldn`t buy a non-cable steer. LOL I like both hand free to fish, and when I step on the pedal I know what to expect.

LOL Corey a game club in the area leases a lot of farmers fields and other areas for hunting and stocks them with Pheasants and maybe other birds? They built homes across the street from me about 5 years ago and these are the first I have seen since. I have no idea if these decided it was a better place and moved or if some of the old stocked ones have managed to breed. We have 2 cats and 3 dogs, that is enough hunting pressure on my land. I don`t have to clean a target! LOL

That stuff they use for pickup beds might work, just me but I would want a livewell fixed right.

Thanks OFNERS! Ya lot of feed mills within 10 miles of me, I will check them out! also want to get some feeder blocks for deer anyway. Rico, I don`t hunt, just no interest in it, although I will and can shoot at targets. I let about an acre and a half of my backyard go back to nature to encourage wildlife to stay. Most just stop as a place to rest when passing thru. LOL no point in cutting all the grass if you don`t have too. For me it`s nice seeing animals other than horses,cows and alpacas.

I have some Pheasants living in my back field and would like to encourage them to stay, beautiful birds. Anyone have any experience with a commercially available food for them? They don`t seem to be too spooky got 15 feet from one on the lawn tractor and all it did was stare. Lots of grasshoppers in the field later in the year, wild blackberries, possibly wild strawberries, no grains though, I am not a farmer. No clue on their choice of diet.
