a question for woodstove/ fireplace owners, NF
OhioFisherman replied to chris.brock's topic in General Discussion
I have had my woodburner now since 1990, it has never seen pine, pine get's used for bonfires. -
So, given those caveats, we can see which countries have the highest ownership rates for firearms - and which have the highest gun murder rates. The key facts are: • The US has the highest gun ownership rate in the world - an average of 88 per 100 people. That puts it first in the world for gun ownership - and even the number two country, Yemen, has significantly fewer - 54.8 per 100 people " http://www.theguardian.com/news/datablog/2012/jul/22/gun-homicides-ownership-world-list

How do you fix a problem if some seem to constantly be search for a way around a law? http://money.cnn.com/2013/09/12/news/companies/slide-fire-gun/index.html?hpt=hp_t3

Summary of Federal Law Federal law imposes various duties on federally licensed firearms dealers. Firearms dealers must, among other things: (1) perform background checks on prospective firearm purchasers; (2) maintain records of all gun sales; (3) make those records available to law enforcement for inspection; (4) report multiple sales; and (5) report the theft or loss of a firearm from the licensee’s inventory.19 Federal law imposes none of these requirements on unlicensed sellers, however. The Gun Control Act of 1968 provides that persons “engaged in the business” of dealing in firearms must be licensed.20 Although Congress did not originally define the term “engaged in the business,” it did so in 1986 as part of the McClure-Volkmer Act (also known as the “Firearms Owners’ Protection Act”). That Act defined the term “engaged in the business,” as applied to a firearms dealer, as “a person who devotes time, attention, and labor to dealing in firearms as a regular course of trade or business with the principal objective of livelihood and profit through the repetitive purchase and resale of firearms.”21 Significantly, however, the term was defined to exclude a person who “makes occasional sales, exchanges, or purchases of firearms for the enhancement of a personal collection or for a hobby, or who sells all or part of his personal collection of firearms.”22 According to a 1999 report issued by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), the current definition of “engaged in the business” often frustrates the prosecution of “unlicensed dealers masquerading as collectors or hobbyists but who are really trafficking firearms to felons or other prohibited persons.”23 http://smartgunlaws.org/private-sales-policy-summary/

I don't know about that Art, they have guns for sale at the local flea market all the time. It is my understanding that a gun dealer needs to be licensed to sell guns, but a private citizen selling his own personal firearms does not. I have never seen anyone at the flea market ask for anything more than cash when selling a gun.

I can just hear the folks in the house and senate now, we don't need no gun control! but more taxpayer funded security for us is on the way! I think they sent the senate home, so they could crawl into taxpayer funded shelters. LOL

It was a good year for them here too, a decent spring with enough rain so the breeding areas didn't dry up with the tadpoles still swimming in them. As a kid I remember a small shallow pool in a field next to my uncle's home in the country. It wasn't more than a foot deep but held water in the spring as long as there was a decent amount of rain. It was always full of tadpoles and newts in the spring, in dry years full of tadpole and newt spots in the dry ground by June.

It was like 92 degrees here yesterday, Friday's high is supposed to be 60 degrees, that might signal them to really start the fall feed.

Question for NW Ontario Pike Guys
OhioFisherman replied to chickenhawk's topic in General Discussion
I have never been in that area, but the area of the Georgian Bay I fished the fall the bite for 40+ inch northerns seemed to be fairly time specific for us. You could catch smaller ones at anytime, but the big fish bite seemed to be limited to around 3 - 4 pm until dark. -
How do you hold a smallmouth when removing trebles

http://www.19actionnews.com/story/23294768/strongsville-company-to-pay-more-than-330000-in-fish-kill-case Kind of sick what ends up in our drinking water? Rocky River runs right into Lake Erie on the western edge of Cleveland. It is or was also one of the rivers used for trout stocking.

What do you look for when shopping for lures?
OhioFisherman replied to dhickey's topic in General Discussion
I had the benefit of an experienced fishing family and word of mouth thru membership in bass clubs, what works well and doesn't in hard baits got around. -

Dang that is a good looking boat! -
No, it isn't considered drug paraphernalia, although one might wonder why a dirty syringe in a tackle box might be considered so?
-
Just a note, here in the states the laws and legalities of having a syringe in your possession with out a prescription vary widely from state to state. The lindy ones were cheap and hard to beat.

Any lure or bait except surface lures that you would use for smallmouth bass will work for sheephead. It's been my experience that they like the same habitat. Riprap along a shore line seems to attract them, the like crawfish as much as smallies do.

Great! Just a tip,if you know someone that does window replacements see if they can get you a couple of old window weights. They are made of cast iron and cylindrical in shape and can slow down a drift on a windy day. http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_trksid=p3872.m570.l1313.TR0.TRC0&_nkw=Cast+iron+window+sash+weights&_sacat=0&_from=R40- 16 replies

You can't catch them at night if you aren't out there trying to? A lot may have to do with the body of water and area of it you are fishing? I have caught them on Lake Erie at night trolling deep diving crank baits the same way you would during the day. I have caught them on weedy inland lakes flipping docks and other shore line areas at night on a jig and pig. I have caught them trolling floating rapalas along a rocky shoreline up north at night. I never got one though sitting in the cabin waiting for daylight.

Here in Ohio a check engine light on is a fail, they won't even bother until it is repaired.

That's just wrong! LOL

Stocking lake Simcoe with Landlock Salmon ?
OhioFisherman replied to misfish's topic in General Discussion
How is Simcoe's smelt population? From reading the article Landlocks seem to center on them for food?
