  1. Hey Sam, good mornin to you, or in your case, good evening. WOW, your sure living a different life than you were a couple years back up here but it sounds like your really enjoying yourself !! Oil rigs, sharks & sea lions....that's a long ways from Quinte My son helped build the big Hybernia oil rig in Newfoundland years ago and always said it was a job he was proud to work on. Those oil rig workers have a tough job and it's terrible what's happening in the gulf so hopefully you can help keep yours safe. Gimme a call when you get home Sam, maybe we can go out for a musky or 2. Not exactly what you've been used to lately, but still lotsa fun Good hearing from you again Sam and don't be a stranger !!
  2. Congratulations to you & your bride Connie and all the best to the pair of you in the next 52 !! This coming October will be 44 wonderful years for Diane and I
  3. I always enjoy the posts when someone buys a new boat !! Congrats on the new ride, that's a real beaut and should serve you well for a long time. My bro-in-law has had a Sylvan for many years and has always been very happy with it.
  4. Absolutely fantastic fishing tale !!!! What an amazing trip !!
  5. Very sad news indeed Stoty and sorry for your loss, Moms are real special. Condolances from my family to yours.
  6. Interesting that this thread popped back to the surface this morning as I just had my new stove installed yesterday, along with delivery the 1st of 3 cords of hardwood that I ordered. Ended up going with Jer's wood guy and got it for $260 per cord. As mentioned previously in this thread, the house is heated with oil, plus I have a nice fireplace in the livingroom and now the new stove has gone downstairs in the family room. Hate to say it, but I'm almost lookind forward to some cold weather to try it out.....well, maybe not
  7. Thanks for posting those stories and pictures Bruce, it made for a very interesting morning reading thru it all. I never served on the Bonnie but we spend alot of time sailing with her on a couple different trips. Certainly nothing in comparison to the size of the British or American carriers but she served her purpose well in the Canadian Navy. Here's a couple rather poor shots I took of Bonnie back in the 60's but I honestly can't remember where the heck it was. In the one picture you can make out the Tracker aircraft on the flight deck. I always enjoyed cruising along side her and watching the aircraft land and take-off from that small deck. Takes a special kind of talent and guts from the guys who do that kinda work. Most of the men in my family have served in different branches of the Armed Forces in both peacetime & war going all the way back to my Grandfather in WW1, and with this being the 100th anniversary of the Canadian Navy, I'm proud of the fact that we served in the Navy too. I did most of my time on the Annapolis in the mid 60's My brother did his time on Columbia, also in the mid 60's And my Dad served with honor for 5 years during WW2 after leaving the farm in Saskatchewan at 18 years old to fight for his country. He was on a few different ships but his favorite was the Corvette Kitchener when they escorted to convoys to Europe and North Africa Thanks again for posting your story Bruce, the Canadian Military never gets the publicity like the Brits or Americans, but Canadians can be as proud of those that protect us as any country on the planet. And congrats to the Canadian Navy for 100 years of great service !! Infact, many years ago I knew a man who was in the very 1st class of Navy recruits when the RCN was formed 100 years ago.
  8. Beautiful colors on those Tigers, thanks for posting that picture !!
  9. It sure was Mike, their an excellent company !!
  10. I got this musky 9 or 10 years ago in the Kawarthas at 10 o'clock at night while the Northern Lights danced over head. The lights had a green tinge to them and we joked that the combination of my green track pants, green T-shirt, green boat carpet and the green Northern Lights is what cause the fish to hit The Northern Lights are one of the purdiest things that Mother Nature ever came up with !!!!
  11. WTG Pete, 3rd place a great showing !! And your right, whoopin the guys in the rocket boats is always a good thing
  12. My Skeeter/Yamaha combo came factory equipped with a water/fuel seperator so that tells me they must be a good thing.
  13. Thanks DanD, that's interesting and something I wasn't aware of.
  14. Thanks BillyBob One thing I've NEVER shied away from is hard work and like you, I'm retired and have plenty of time for whatever needs doing. I've got more than enough room for storing wood too so once I find a seller with a good price I can stock up as needed. The wood stove in the family room will be for added heat in the home and the fireplace in the living room will only be used to look purdy when we have company
  15. Drifter Tackle is a great company to deal with. Couple years back myself & Mr. Eh were trolling Pigeon Lake for muskies and I was running a 10" jointed Believer on a short line when a musky came up and hammered it just behind the boat and actually tore the Believer apart at the joint, spit the pieces out, laffed at me and swam away I contacted Drifter just to inform them about what had happened and they called back and said they'd gladly replace the bait. I thanked him and told him that I didn't need another bait as I had a whole box of Believers and thought that was the end of the conversation. A few days later a box was delivered to my home from Drifter Tackle and when I opened the package, there wasn't one, but TWO Jointed Super Stalkers and a nice letter from the company thanking me for taking the time to inform them of the problem. Companies like Drifter Tackle are excellent to deal with and deserve whatever good comes their way.
  16. Thanks again everyone, I've got a couple phone numbers for some local wood guys and will be calling them today. Cliff, I understand where your coming from but I've always been a big fan of the airtight woodstoves. I won't be doing any cutting, other than kindling, and the wood will all be stored in a large portable shed I've installed behind the garage so it'll be easy to get at.
  17. Thanks guys, I just got back home. Seems some here think $300 is high while others don't think it's too bad of a price, so I'll do a bit more searching around. This is the 1st time I've ever bought a full cord of hardwood so I wasn't too sure what a fair price was. And yes, this is for a full cord rather than a face cord. Jer, could you please PM me the name or phone # of your wood guy. I'm probably gonna buy at least 2 cords so if I can save $40 off each one that'll be a substantial savings. Sharkbait22, the guy on 28 between Youngs Pt and Burliegh is the one I was talking to today, perhaps I'll see what he can offer me for 2 cords.
  18. Guys, I've got a fireplace in the living room, plus I'm having a woodburning stove installed down in the family room so I'm gonna be buying a couple cords of wood for next winter.....ya I know, it's 80 degrees outside today I was referred to a local guy and talked to him today and he sells a full cord of seasoned hardwood, cut to 16", split and delivered to my home for $300 including taxes. Decent price or not ??
  19. There's not many places around the GTA that carry anything other than the basic musky gear, so Brian may be your only option. What about Fishing World in Hamilton, I know they used to carry some musky baits but I haven't been in there in years.
  20. It was a terrible day for sure and it's hard to believe it was that long ago. We sent a bit of money up there thru the Red Cross and hopefully someone who lost everything was able to benefit from it.
  21. They look good Mike, very nice work !!
  22. I've got that same motor but have never experienced that moisture problem but Motion I'd sure be interested in hearing the cause once you get it figured out . You say you keep it under the boat cover, any chance it could be condensation ??
  23. Not sure of the g2g dates this year Joey but it sounds like you may be heading home the day before we arrive. Sorry were gonna miss you & Paul, but leave a couple of those big slimers in the lake for me, will ya please ??
  24. As I mentioned previously, I'll unfortunately be missing this years G2G seeing as were gonna be there the following week. Have a blast though guys !!
  25. Excellent reply BassAsin, thanks !!
