  1. It was tough to focus on work that day but almost nothing will stop production in a steel shop....we had to soldier on and keep working....only the big power outage stopped us....
  2. I was also in that day...working on 6 vessel with a bunch of us crowded around the radio....
  3. There's a ramp there somewhere...the cottages all have motorboats....stop and ask. lots of friendly people around.
  4. try the lake near the group camping area...decent fishing, nice scenery and great blueberry picking.....
  5. The regular carp we have devastated Binbrook by uprooting all the vegetation and stirring up the water. The suspended clay then choked out the light from the underwater weeds.... So we have a fishbowl with little weeds.. Come fish them out of the lake, would ya?
  6. 14 walleye and 3 pike in 4 trips this year. The three pike were all the same size so it must have been a good spawn that year.
  7. My linkSome of the lakes are ones that the outfitters offer day trips on. They do the same thing, stash a boat and fly people in for the day. The problems come when both are there at once. We don't go in where there are permanent camps though. There are so many lakes, you don't have to fish any lake more than once or twice...Pasha Lake Camp has a drive-to lake that they call the lake of a million Walleye...check it out on their website..
  8. I have no idea what the names of the lakes are...we aren't allowed to turn on a GPS on the way in or at the lake...I'm surprised he doesn't blindfold us..lol..All I can tell you is that we drive for and hour and a half north on roads that get progressively smaller and smaller until the brush rubs both sides of the truck. Then we walk 100 yards further, turn into the bush and walk for another 20 minutes....The boats and motors are brought in by snowmobile in the winter and they have to be well hidden from the fly-in guys...they have a habit of chopping holes in boats that are stashed...Big lakes on crown land...go figure
  9. awesome...cleos...check
  10. Well then, the pike should be prime when I get up there later this week!!! We'll be staying at a house in town so we can spend three days on Nipigon, another on a small brookie lake, a couple of walleye and pike lakes as well...the best part about going fishing with a local is having access to many so-called fly-in lakes that have boats stashed at them....usually a 20 minute hike through the bush from unmarked former logging roads....
  11. Yes Dave, I'm going with Andy and we are meeting up with his brother (who is the original owner of Pasha lake Camp)and he will be our guide... jig flies sound good ...We will be stopping at Lebaron's before we go so I will stock up with lots of jig heads...It started out as a 10 day or less trip but has grown to 13 now...needless to say the wife's not thrilled with that but I have to jump at the chance when I get it.....All we have to pay for is gas and food..sweet
  12. We are leaving for Jellico Wednesday...My buddy suggested a Mepps Syclops for the Brookies on nipigon..Any other suggestions?? We'll be staying for a couple of nights in a trappers cabin so we will have plenty of chances to hook into some big fish...I plan on taking a spinning outfit and possible a baitcasting set up as well..(I just need to find an affordable two piece rod for travelling purposes)..There will also be a few days of pike fishing and a few walleye lakes thrown in.....any suggestions would be appreciated..
  13. Your're right on Dave...Worry more about what is in Tilapia and Basa than walleye....most of the time you can see the white and black grubs when you land the fish...There are probably more tapeworms around then people realize...we just don't open the bellies often enough to see them......(sometimes you just have to see what they're eating...)
  14. They had about the same number of Canadian players but Vancouver relied on europeans for their top lines....they got hit and it threw them off their game....Thomas played brilliantly while luongo was inconsistant.........
  15. The fines levied by the CO's goes to the province as general revenue, not to the MNR....They have limits on how far they can travel and with the offices spaced so far apart, they patrol the hotspots nearest to the home base......
  16. If you plan to use worms, take them up with you..It will be much cheaper to buy them here
  17. Go to Caledonia or Cayuga before the walleye season opens and you'll see lots of them taken home....There's no particular race doing it...just a bunch of guys who poach and seem to get away with it......I still don't have much faith in the CO's ability to police the huge areas they have with such small budgets...More political pressure is needed....Government workers keep growing in numbers except at the MNR, which is shrinking....
  18. I always love to see younger ones with such an interest...be sure to get some of your buddies hooked so you always have someone for a partner.....then once you start to drive you'll have someone to split the gas costs with
  19. The Grand river below Cayuga or Dunnville.....
  20. Up there almost any body of water will have fish!!!
  21. Toyota Trucks are made in Texas...I have a Chev Colorado and I wouldn't recommend it just because of the brake design that most shops don't want to deal with....a cheap shop will probably be $1000 just for rotors and pads...
  22. There are a hundred kids in their program and at least 25 of them show up at the centre for breakfast each day...otherwise they would sit at school hungry....I would rather they get hooked on fishing than the alternative....
  23. We never got sick days...if you are sick, you can take the day off without pay but you have to have a note from the doctor...that can be hard to do when you work in a 24hr 365day industry...try to get to your doctor an a sunday....If the posties strike i won't miss the bills but don't mess with my Ontario Out of Doors.....
  24. That kid with "the pants" caught his first fish and he was not cool with getting close to it...the girl was fine with it....lol....I think if he was offered a belt he would refuse...once again..not cool.. Next year we have to get some snacks!! 10 minutes off the bus and they're asking for lunch.....
  25. The annual Binbrook Crappie Derby took place Sunday and while this goes on we bring a busload of kids from the Eva Rothwell centre in Hamilton out for some fishing..We give them all a fishing rod and a bit of tackle...This year we had 36 show up and many were trying out the fishing thing for the first time ever...chaotic but fun..The kids were very well behaved to say the least!!! They fished for three hours, had as much lunch as they wanted, then headed back to the city dirty, sometimes wet, but happy!! Many thanks to my fellow Glanbrook Conservation Committee members, Fishing World and the Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority.....
