  1. Form some of us newcomers what's the W5 on this event?
  2. How are you gonna catch a fish when your feeding the pup pizza mate? I'm spoken for but have a pal here that's young, single, hunts, fishes and has a boat, does the wife have any sisters? I can send a picture of the boat. That's the best family photo I've seen in years, fantastic.
  3. Joey I am so sorry you are going through this. You can recover your stuff, I don't know how but I'm sure they are able to. All your wonderful photos, don't say it's so. There are many sharp folks here that will help you out, I know someone will. I've had Windows8RT since it came out in November 2012. Really the only problem I've had was it non compatibility with any Apple apps. Such as our music IPod. We were sold a bill of goods as all I need this for is photos, music and internet. We have an Asus touch pad and it does what I need it to other than what we wanted it for. That's my rant. All will be fine girl. I think this a good reminder to all of us to back up, back up, back up. For a tool that is supposed to make our lives easier it seems it can just be another stressor we don't need. Even back in 2012 a week after 8 came out there wasn't much available with 7.
  4. As good old Ozzie Giacommelli used to say that's a " carbuncklement ". RIP Ozzie, we all miss you. Mike that's a carbunklememt if there ever was one. Took me 2 years untangling line before I got the hang of making 3 casts in a row with out a carbunklememt on my first baitcaster a early 80's Shimano Bantam. The little pic that comes on those little black multi tools help. Then I used a good quality baitcaster and found that little Bantam is good for trolling and that's about it. I'm going to try the electrical tape after a long cast, interesting. Anyone else done this or is it an inside joke?
  5. The guy partied a bit too much and got into it with a few others probably in the same shape and left his bag behind. By the time the "news" hits the wires he was mugged and robbed by Canadian thugs. I'm just glad he wasn't hurt nor was anyone else. With all this social media stuff a New Years party scuffle becomes big news and he raises more money. I'm glad he only received a head ache. Why are we talking about this, any fishing today to report?
  6. That's a Jeep, squint hard, still a Jeep.
  7. 7:30? At night? Wow I'm in bed at 9 these days. Then up at 10:30 and so on, and so on. It sucks. You laugh Christopher K, you'll be there some day young feller.
  8. You should have told him, " no fish for you, one year ".......
  9. Was able to spend yesterday with my elderly parents and have dinner with the family at the home we all grew up in. 24 for dinner, another 15 or so stopped in to wish all a Merry Christmas during the day.. It was the last meal there for us all as they are moving into a retirement residence in the new year. A dozen of us walked the neighborhood and we showed the Grandkids who lived where and who did this or that there. My wife and my gift was arranging it all and cooking the 40 pounds of turkey and of course the other 8 courses of food, man that's nuts. Everyone chipped in bringing food and cleaning up. Everyone except of course the few 20 something Italian Prince and Princesses, wouldn't want to take them away from their smart phones and wanting to know when we are going to open gifts because they were in a hurry to leave. I hope they enjoy their take out pizza next year. If my wife and I need or should I say want stuff we go out and buy it. Stuff has absolutely nothing to do with Christmas. I know it was supposed to be fishing related and is because we had a fish course for dinner as well.
  10. Franky has a few hundred hits on youtube.com. I understand they don't pay out until after several million hits? Pass on Franky's video to as many as you can for this great kid with autism so he can make some money.
  11. Depending on how long the power has been out the water may be hot enough now to shower etc.. Do what you need to do in the AM now. Open a hot water tap, is it still hot or warm? If it's not hot it's not heating and will be colder tomorrow.
  12. I don't go outside. The only people that have problems with the power outages are the neighbors with basements. Edit, I go outside to move the vehicles from under the trees. I better get out of my smoking jacket and get into gear. Stay warm and dry all. I actually love a good storm, when's it coming?
  13. A real piece of work CO told a friend the copy of the disability parking permit wasn't valid. So he had a choice to get a ticket for no fishing permit or park a mile from the pond or get a parking ticket. I would have taken the fine for no fishing license and met the guy in court. Or showed him the scars. There are other ways to prove disability, what if someone doesn't have a parking permit?
  14. It can sure be scary out there. Not always younger drivers but it came to my attention this past bit of weather that many kids here in southern On have never driven in these conditions as we really haven't had snow to speak of for years. One kid told me they wouldn't put speedometers on cars that read 220KPH if the car can't go that fast. I know it will never happen but road tests should also be done on snow and ice, especially in northern North America. Testing should be done on a road for those over 80, not just a written test. Drivers here are no better or worse than other provinces or states, now Europe is different. Want a thrill drive in Europe. In Italy you pull the sideview mirrors in while negotiating mountain roads, so you don't lose one when you hit the other guys mirror, then if you beep the horn before taking a curve at 140 you have the right of way!!! Driving in the Middle East and India is absolute insanity. Lines painted on roads are a suggestion only, turn signal levers are to hang a hat on, the turn signal lights are smashed anyway. The best drivers ever are in Finland. Worse India.
  15. A very nice post Sir. I would also like to extend by best wishes to all. 13' has been a fairly good year for us. When there are more weddings than funerals that's a good year in my books. A big scare in 2012 with my wifes health, all is well today. Only a few follow ups for the bladder cancer and all is well on that front. Any year I only have 1 orthopedic tune up is a good year. Fishing was great at times, lucky enough to be able to do some. Mom and Dad celebrated 60 years together and their health is as good as it can at 86 and 84, how can they be married 60 years, I'm 61?????? Mom didn't think that funny at the party. Thanks to the folks here that have had to read my never ending posts where I can digress at the touch of a key. Thanks for making a newbie feel welcome and not an outsider, unlike many sites. Thank you Joey for trying to explain how to post a jpeg and explain a fishing tournament that happens a thousand miles apart on different bodies of water all at the same time. Merry Christmas to all and the best for a New Year that is very near. Special thank you to all the moderators that take their time and do a thankless job for zero pay that no one wants. Johnny D Selkirk On.
  16. Bill, I misspoke no additional taxes at the border state I was thinking brokerage fees as we occasionally brought a auto trailer across with 4 vehicles or more worth several thousands of dollars. As far as trusting someone over the phone.? A seller says the vehicle has clear title. The vehicle gets to the border via shipping broker the title is a scrap of paper that is a receipt not a title. Or it's the previous owners not the current. The shipper wants his money, you don't want the vehicle, the seller has your money and you have a receipt, now you need to go to who knows where to get it straitened out. Drive to who knows where and the address is the court house, the phones disconnected. The vehicle is stolen and your an idiot. Sorry to say the older one gets the more cynical one becomes. Experience is a lifetime of mistakes, wisdom is knowing how to not make them again. I've had the opportunity to travel to every continent on earth except the Antarctic and not all of it is like on TV. Or the movies. Actually some of it is. Robbed in London, abducted in Morocco, assaulted by a Gypsy woman in Rome. Forgot where my hotel was in St. Petersburg Russia at 02:00 AM and needed to be at the plant at 07:00, paid $200.00 USD for 12 Heineken in Iran and risked prison for a cold beer. If you want to hear all about it you'll all need to buy the book. My cynicism is hard earned.
  17. Beauty pics Wayne, sure looks cold. Flew for a bit trying to get certified in the 70's, needed a good carb de-icer in the old Piper Cherokee 140 way back when. I'm in Haldimand windfarms and huge solar farms all around. It's the future like it or not. Nana told us of the fear they had in the early 20th century when they started putting up the Hydro and telephone lines in the country, they thought they were going tomfall on them. This was in the late 60's when the huge Hydro line towers were being built along the Red Hill creek area to the lake in east Hamilton. We all played ball along this tract of land since it was severed off. We were all going to get sick, cows in the country were going to give radio active milk, the rumors of them falling and crushing innocent families watching Ed Sullivan in the states were rampant. They're here and here to stay. My only question is it 10MW capacity or estimate output based on historic data? The people certainly profiting are the designers, manufacturers, suppliers, constructors and real estate investors. I say real estate investors not farmers because out here 4 individuals that had the foresight to see this opportunity to rent out the land for solar and wind own a huge amount of acreage here. I say good for them. They could have been stuck with thousands of acres of clay.
  18. Whooie, now there's some serious damage. I like when the kid turns and the barrel is pointed right at the camera, I hope his buddy wasn't manning the camera, I hope not. Hollow point actually fractured and made more than one big entrance wound. Keep up the good work Art. Any opinion is valid as long as it does not become advice and that advice can be taken to heart and become hazardous to ones health and safety. Like the guy that suggested taking the plug out of the transom every time you head back to the dock to get all the water out from the bottom of the boat.
  19. The guy that took the video was apparently fired from the store he worked at. He left the store unattended to hassle Mark and his partner. Looks good on him. I love when the clerk from the video store taking the video says " I know the law dude, I took the law and did good in it", I guess he didn't decide to make it his career.
  20. I just watched that video. I haven't held a shotgun for 40 years shooting at the range. Man I'm impressed, didn't think it was possible to do what Chuck Connors did with that weapon. 230 yards, could have been farther. I was always told the barrel needed a cool down time. He ripped off 20 rounds in less than 15 minutes. 15 for 20 at 230 yards in a tight grouping, amazing. If I counted correctly he loaded 6 or 7 rounds in the semi. Gotta love the good old USA and I gotta get me one of them that there pea shooters. I would have thought a slug would have done more damage. Clean entry and fairly clean exit. Is there such a thing as a hollow point slug? If there was a war to break out I want that dude on my side. 230 yards or farther, man very Impressed. I never understood why some infantrymen in Viet Nam carried shotguns, now I do.
  21. The scrutiny and doubt from the public that comes with applying for a world record fish would be enough for me to keep my mouth shut if I was ever lucky enough to catch one. It's not like it comes with a 6 figure cheque, or maybe it does through endorsements. I can hear the conversation, "what line did you catch it on?" How much is it worth if I told you it was your brand?
  22. It's 2C right now there in Myrtle Beach. High of 16 tomorrow. Not much for the family to do down there this time of year. They pretty well roll up the sidewalks after labour day. We've seen snow there in October. Florida is your best bet. Good bass all year in Alabama and Louisiana. Or the lower Niagara. Good fishing in December I hear, not for me. Still lots to do for the family now. The Festival of Lights is a must see in the winter. Depend on how far is far?, you could be in Wawa, Niagara Falls is far for me driving from Wawa.
  23. Sorry Bill I couldn't disagree more. I wish everything is like you say. The brutal truth it's not. Ask HTHM. I've heard his story first hand, not good. He was sold a bill if goods. I used to buy hi end cars in south Florida in the hey day when exotics were cheap in the late 80's there (drug dealers?). We never had a problem because I never bought without seeing them first hand and my partner was a mechanic, also clearing title in Florida was important. I don't know about now and how marine vessels may vary but in some border states taxes were higher than others. NY being the highest. Like Superdad said you may have to pay sales taxes to the state purchases as well as the border state. That can get pricey. Something else that can be a pain is getting the Transport Canadian i.d. plate describing weight, capacity etc. A boat from the states won't have one. Inspect the boat first, the shipper doesn't care what you get they just want your $500.00. If it's not as advertised your screwed. How can you be assured a clear title from the state you purchase it from. That state probably has a sales tax there if not paid it's not getting across to Sarnia most likely. It's easy once you know how to do it, it's the learning how that can cost you. I would never, ever buy any vehicle without seeing it and inspecting it thoroughly.
  24. The cop in the video is Mark Morrelli, his Dad, an old friend, is Bernie Morrelli who has sat on city council forever. Bernie is the chair of the Hamilton Police Service's Board. He is one proud pop. Marks probably been hearing about what it means to be a good cop his whole life from Dad. Bernie hasn't been well and hasn't been able to attend to his civic duties for a while now, hope he's feeling better. Way to go Mark. Rich there's good and bad everywhere, there are some really bad cops in Hamilton. Problem is you never hear about the really good one's.
  25. Some thin ice at Long Point Bay. I wouldn't go out until the commercial guys put out their huts here. Perch is $8.00 a pound in Dover, still fresh for now. If you need a meal, ice fishing in southern On. Isn't the wat to get it yet, here anyway. Soon we hope. It's the earliest winter in years, it's a few days away, it's still fall, patience. Some ski resorts on the southern tier in NY have not had this much snow this early since the 70's I have heard.
