ugly stick ultra light or shimano voltaeus
Old Ironmaker replied to SHINNY's topic in General Discussion
Form the money can't beat an Ugly Stick, like many I like both ultralites. My old Shimano Aero is the best one piece ultralite I have. Can feel everything down there and can handle a big fish if one happens by. All of them will break if you close the trunk on them! -
OSB, paneling, tongue and groove pine, Barn board, many choices. But whatever you do insulate between the studs and cover in Super 6 poly and seal now, you will thank yourself latter and you will get the return on investment if and when you ever sell. There are alternatives, you asked a better way? I don't know what better you refer too, easier, cheaper. All depends on budget.

Of they would have camped your second night you guys still might be going there. Good help is hard to find. Penny wise pound foolish.

Need some info on boat size vs max towing capacity
Old Ironmaker replied to hotsky's topic in General Discussion
I can't agree with you on this one mcdougie. I have had hunk of junks but how you treat them is how they treat you. I speak kindly to my stuff and care for them dearly. I guarantee as soon as I speak to them badly and smack them on the dash they rebel. I'm so superstitious that I won't even let them within ear shot when I talk about getting rid of them. They are our worse investment, absolutely worse, but in our society and massive country we all need one out here in the country at least. If I didn't need one I wouldn't have one. You are right about how often we use our boats, maybe more than 10% because we live on the lake, but not much more that's for sure. Talk about a bad investment. BOAT = take out another thousand, that's a for shoe. -

Now launching a boat with a Mazda 3 might be an issue. Depending on the ramp. Concrete shouldn't be a problem depending on the depth and how wet it is, but when you are talking mud and some stone and steep you might spin the little tires off her. Water levels are going to be your worse enemy. Some ramps we launched a tinny in with one of those fake Chevy pick ups, what the heck were they called? Similar to an S-10, but low to the ground. In order to get the boat off were pretty deep in the water sometimes. Often just picked it up and threw it in, twice a day workouts in the gym helped. I wasn't always Old Ironmaker, just iron pumper. Which way to the beach? Miami Vice and Magnum P.I. days, I was Tom without the Ferrari. Ramps may be an issue not weight. -
She was on the way to the mall. Plus there are moose standing around waiting for the bus everyday there. What I don't get is what the conservation officers take on it was. You can see in the video that it's between a house and a vehicle, and our take on it is that the moose felt it needed to get out of there. It was being cornered, and the easiest way out happened to be over top of this individual." The easiest way was to be over top of this individual? There sure was more room behind her. She gave her a shot and walked away, didn't look to be cornered to me. More like hey lady no one says hello anymore?

Canuck2fsn, that is truly an epic fail. As far as charging you for the second night because she could have rented the cabin out, too exactly who? The weather is her problem, who rents from an ice fishing outfitter when you can't fish because you need sunblock. That sucks large. That's why there is an entire page of lawyers in the phone book in a county of 42,000 people where I am. Small claims court if you really wanted the money back. She knew she had you. I don't know what it is about Calendar but I've never had any luck there. Flat tires, boat won't start in the middle of the lake no one in sight and cell phones were a future invention, blown tranny once, blew my knee out throwing the ball around. I've never been back. When I paid around $2000.00 for a cottage and a boat rental 18 years ago at Cozy Cove that's when I decided to buy our own place, right then and there. Best 2 grand I ever spent. The fishing was hot though that week. PB Walleye on Nippissing and a mess of smallmouth every other cast one afternoon. My wife's first Musky, no leader and my nieces had a blast driving me nuts on the drive up. I know all the words to This Is The Song That Never Ends!!! So not all bad. Weeks vacation $2500.00, Tylenol $7.99 memories of that week with the future wife and brothers kids, priceless.

A recommendation by Guru Gord is worth many thousands in marketing fees. Way to go Mike. Keep up the good work big guy. Get on Dragons Den, even those that don't get a deal get market exposure they could never afford. Seriously, have you thought of applying? It's an all Canadian story they might very well be interested in. We would all be behind you.

You calling me an oldtimer lad? I feel young at the Legion. A few may have one too many pops but it's not that far fetched of a tale. It must be true because it's against Legion policy to lie while leaning on the bar watching the Olympics.

Good question. When I get skunked after pounding the water hard all day and sometimes night, rather than not wanting to come back I want to hit it again until we do have a good outing. I know they are under the boat, sometimes heck we can see them, that's the most frustrating part. When they don't want to eat we don't either sometimes if we are pan fishing. But I'm as stubborn as a mule, I'll get you tomorrow. Never quit. Even a day of not catching isn't really disappointing. I just think back when we had to change coolers and tuyeres on say Christmas day or eve, or docking an ore boat at 4 AM when it's -15 and the wind blowing off the bay feels like razor blades. Not catching a fish beats the hell out of that any day. It's not about the fish, it's about the fishing.

Maybe my old insane neighbor moved to Grimsby. Big Cliff and all, if it wasn't for my wife I might not need a toilet out here, heck pay for the water to truck it in then pay triple to truck it back out. What a scam, I couldn't agree more country living sure has a big price tag attached. Include all the things we must pay for then add the taxes it's ridiculous compared to the taxes in town or the city. School taxes, school what school? I know there must be one somewhere I see the busses with kids on them, I should follow one and see where this school I'm paying for is.

My all time favorite, very 1940's. I had the jacket, until I washed it and it turned pink. Bleach and red makes pink. Man......I'm just glad it wasn't my wife's.

Or was he told to give up his spot? I hope not but that's the scuttle but at the Cayuga Legion today. If that's true, I hope not, not a proud Canadian moment.

Perch fishing video. Underwater footage too

Fantastic, keep up the good work. Great production values, and not a single Rappala, Canadian Tire or Cooper tire commercial to be found! I think I saw one fish have the jig bounce off it's noggin a few times, cool. There sure are a few fish down there. Did you use the camera to find that hot spot or are you just that good, or lucky? -
I married into a figure skating family my first time around and followed it closely then. Watched Patrick Chan pick up the silver today, good going kiddo. Looks like we can't get that elusive gold in that event, Brian Orser and Elvis Stoyko were denied the gold as well after winning the world championships prior to the Olympics if I remember correctly. Silver is nothing to be ashamed of, the kid actually apologized to all of us after missing out on the gold, he had one minor slip which probably cost him the gold metal. He has probably skated that routine a few hundred or more times flawlessly before today. How do you all like the sweaters the hockey team is wearing? Love the big red maple leaf on the visitors sweaters, I mean jerseys, not sure about the black uniforms. Too much black with the black pants as well.

Question before buying a used boat .
Old Ironmaker replied to Muskieman's topic in General Discussion
Put a hose in the bilge and run the water. It's tough this time of year but wouldn't buy a boat without doing it. When I was looking 2 boats leaked that I was considering. Bad leaks. -
I stand corrected, yes Mike! he was a pro? $200.00 a week. Maybe.

I never demean anyone trying to eek out a living no matter how menial a job they have, but these people are acting for criminals and by way of that are engaging in fraudulent activity making them criminals as well, that is if they are stupid enough not to know they are commuting a crime, some don't even know what they are doing is criminal. The next time I get one of these out and out scam calls I'm going to play with them a bit. Maybe even doing something criminal myself by impersonating a law enforcement official. I can't wait, it's winter I'm bored even though I have many things I need to get done, too cold, too wet, too much snow and too lazy.

The reason I don't agree with pro's participating it's supposed to be a competition for amateur athletes. I agree the tops in any field are not really amateurs anylonger, even back in the old days the communist country fielded professionals. Ben Johnson drove around in a Ferrari before he had the world record for the 100. But that's the way it is and has been for years, I just don't like it because a real amateur will never have the chance to compete for a metal because Tiger Woods took his spot. Remember Bob Iruzionni (sic) and the miracle on ice? That can never happen today. Real amateurs winning Gold.

Great idea or recepie for disaster? Fishing related.

I think dancing girls from Kaybec would keep someone in the black not red. I once met a lady in Florida that had a floating bar and restaurant going boat to boat. Her and her waitresses were easy to look at and their uniforms consisted of a few pieces of string. She was very successful. The food was actually very good, fried Grouper burgers with fresh slaw and a cold King can presented to you by a (you might as well say naked) young girl, can it get any better than that for service? There was a line up of boats sometimes to get near them. Would never fly here selling beer. I bet an enterprising person would be successful if they had the right wait staff and good food. -
I hadn't had that call for the years we weren't online anylonger. Funny thing was that a few days after I bought our new tablet I get the call saying they are from Microsoft and there's something wrong with my new PC. How did they know I just bought a PC? At first I thought they were legit, but came to my senses after a few minutes when they start asking for personal information just to prove who I AM. There are a lot of stupid people out there that do stupid things to part with their money. It's sad because stupidity is a DNA thing and it's passed down through the gene pool, they can't help being stupid, ignorance is different. That's a person with some intelligence acting stupid.

BigUgly you wrote, "I had one neighbor who was always calling the fire dept because of the smoke from my woodstove which wa our primary heat source." That kind of hits close to home with me. We had the neighbour from hell that burned unseasoned wood and we lived downwind of him. My wife has a chronic lung condition and when the smoke billowed from his stack she sometimes had to leave the home. I know you don't burn anything but good dry hardwood that should not give off smoke of high opacity but it does effect some adversely. This guy was nuts and when he knew it bothered her he then started burnt anything he could on the beach that is 30 feet below the cottages and the smoke would come right into ours all day and night long. I had to get the authorities involved and he never really stopped even after he was fined. I later learned his main source of income was collecting from injury law suits for assault by previous people he irritated. Tough way to make a living. Unfortunately he committed suicide, shot himself 9 times. (just kidding he moved and blamed me for turning the neighbors against him, man what a nutbar).

Do a leak test on it besides running the engine. -
60? Like GBW said 40 for sure maybe sooner. I'm proud when we earn a metal, but I couldn't name you 1 person next month that did let alone 4 years ago. Down hill, ski jumping and all these X games ski and snowboard flying nuts are sure fun to watch. The speed skating team relays are a blast. I really haven't been into any of the events summer or winter where millionaire professionals take away the dream of an amateur of ever participating in the Olympics. Next summer games the likes of Tiger Woods will be participating, not fair.

Freeze to death or starve to death?

I love Cambridge, very nice area. Have a pal that lives on the opposite side of the river from 24. Funny layout since they amalgamated Hespler, Galt and Preston, your in Cambridge now you aren't now you are now you aren't. We are listing this spring and are talking about Brantford, close to my wifes work and some good deals still.
