Captain, Follow this link, http://www.dnr.sc.gov/fishing.html Looks like there is a separate license needed for each body of water, one for salt and one for fresh. There is an online application provided for licenses, which is convenient, who wants to waste even a minute of vacation time standing in some gov office. Have fun. JD Oh my it's started snowing as I type, it's official. Need a guide down there? I'm available. I'll even carry your bags, tackle, clubs, 24's, and I cook! Oh and I'll stand in line at the license bureau for ya.

Each State may be different, some states freshwater and saltwater are separate, (Louisiana?). If I can remember back that far SC you did need one. Some charters in Florida the license is included in the price and the charter guy could issue it, again more than 10 years back. Your going to get one anyway to fish anywhere inland. I have a minute here I'll check. Johnny D

Trying Steelheadibg this weekend
Old Ironmaker replied to mike rousseau's topic in General Discussion
Good info guys for this Steelhead challenged individual, me. Tried last week on the Grand, suffice it to say it is still on my bucket list. Every time I head out to get a species on my bucket list, Steelhead being one, I catch a cold, doe's that count against a skunk? When I'm not targeting a fish, bam, I get my fish. First Musky trolling for Walleye, first Rainbow (can I count that as a Steelhead?) downrigging for Erie Walleye. First Shark jigging for Grouper. First Snook floating a shrimp for Sea Trout. First Sea Trout jigging for Snook! So tell yourself you are going for something else and boom, you'll have one on. -
cell phone plan for short trip to US
Old Ironmaker replied to kickingfrog's topic in General Discussion
I was away last month and bought the roam package through my provider KOODO. It was $80.00 for 40 minutes, that's not cheap. Never again but it was a last minute thing. Easy to say shut off the phone, not easy to do. What did we do 20 years ago, oh yea pay phone will Bell card. -
I have an engine start problem, please advise.

Thank you Drifter and JohnBacon for your replies. Yes it was something simple JB. Like putting the kill switch in the off position when I was cleaning the interior Sunday. Like I said to Drifter I don't know whether to laugh or cry, I choose to laugh because I don't need to BOAT right now/ bring out another thousand! -
This is no longer a political issue, it's about a human being who is dangerously on the edge of self destruction this morning. Coupled with his alcohol and drug habit's his physical health and this media circus surrounding this morning he knows that his life as he once knew it is gone, it can be heard in his voice yesterday. I don't want to predict how this will end and end badly. Based on my experience dealing with employees that can be carbon copies of this, even though they weren't the mayor of the largest city in the country they were looking at losing there very high paying jobs after several stints in rehab. This man either he gets professional help immediately or the story ends badly, soon. He should be watched 24/7. I really have empathy for him now. We all have done or do things that we don't wish anyone to know about. Imagine waking and finding the entire world not only knows but are watching it on television.

Yes Albert kill switch. You're good. How did you know? Wait, because I said so on Channel 6-8. You almost had me. -
Great intro x 3. There are some very unexpected hot spots to fish in TO one would never expect to find. Google Bob Izumi with Taro fishing the harbor front for pike, big pike in winter under the shadows of the glass towers, it's cool. Also carp from Toronto Island, lots of big carp, and of course the tributaries for the salmon and Trout. Welcome aboard, enjoy your time here, you will get hooked for sure, and hook a few as well with all the great advice. Johnny D

Yea Lew your right. Like a kid on a sandlot that wants to take his ball home when he's tired. Point taken Lew. I did read all 9 pages this AM, good all around. None of us are perfect. Have a good one.

I strongly believe in real estate investment for the average working man or woman. It has served me well over the years. If you have the stomach, have better than average DIY skills and are a people person property management may be something for you. If somewhat confrontational and volatile it's not for you. Stick to the flips. Can't afford the downpayment, partner with someone you trust and has a set of skills you don't. Invest 70% on the next project and put 20% into the RRSP's and 10% into the stock markets The market in Hamilton is hot. Some comparables are as low as 30% of the Toronto markets. The generation X and Y kids just can't afford to live where they work in TO. Retirees are selling modest homes in Toronto for 750 K and buying luxury condos or McMansions in Hamilton and area for less than 1/2 that. They are flooding into Hamilton. Go service is being expanded, the Arts and entertainment scene is growing exponentially, most of the environmentally insensitive steel mills and heavy industry is a small fraction of what it was just 10 years ago, there are more Hospitals per capita than anywhere in Canada I've read. The health industry is the highest employer in the city, health workers are going to Hamilton for employment from everywhere in the country. All important factors for growth. Look at trends in society and invest there. There is plenty of waterfront available in Hamilton, Stoney Creek, Grimsby all the way to Niagara for a fraction of cost comparable to the GTA and near north. Port Dalhousie may not be a commute to TO but is a retirees dream. Waterfront property only goes up, basically recession proof. Lake Erie shoreline is still a good investment. Many of my neighbours are former commuters of the 400 north, they sold vacation properties there and bought or built here for sometimes less than 1/2 of what the northern property sold for. I nearly lost a good chunk of Dinaro on a stock investment the entire family was hot for a few years ago. I did my due diligence by flying out to Vancouver to visit this burgeoning companies headquarters. It was 2 days before I could get anyone on the phone, with little investigation the world headquarters was in a strip mall in the suburbs not the glass tower that was on the website. Some listened others lost many thousands. Anyone cam make a fancy website, think Breaex Gold (sic) another scam, a big one. If it is stocks you choose due diligence is a must other then the penny game. I'd choose the bookies over penny stocks I can't touch or see. If you have a passion for something invest in it.

As an individual that was very lucky a few years back with the Bladder thing, a cystoscopy and 6 month scopes I just thank someone up there. I'm not a religious guy but my prayers for you all can't hurt. BigUgli, I'm not that far from you, if there is anything I can do for you just PM me, plenty of time on my hands right now and time to lend one.

Also get the state fishing regulations as well as a license. I took my medium action spinning outfit there years ago just in case. Fished from the piers with a hook, live shrimp hooked behind the eyes and a casting float caught me many Jack Travale, Mullet (bait for the locals) and a few I have no idea fish. I actually hooked into a Bat Ray that tested all my skill and nearly broke the rod at the blank. The cheap Okuma rod and Shimano 2500 really impressed me, I still use them, 20 years later. It was a blast and I landed it. The others on the pier were none to happy as they had to reel in for the 1/2 hour it took to land. A fellow netted it for me. It didn't bite off the line as it was hooked outside the mouth. I was hitting 12 for every 1 the guys with 2x2's and Penn reels did, but when they did it was a big fish. A few Sand Sharks up to 4 feet. Be sure to bring home some casting floats, they cast a mile if you ever do any live bait rigging up here. Rinse the entire rod and reel very well with mild soap and fresh water everytime you use it. If you use any plugs etc, same thing, clean and dry them well before you put it in your box. Actually keep them separate until you know all the salt is off. I didn't the first time I went south and regreted it. Salt travels in a box many months latter when the box gets wet. Have fun and slather up with the SPF and good glasses and hat.

Yes I couldn't agree more. I'm assuming that Pyro is shopping smart and taking into consideration what a good solid well kept boat looks like. I've seen 5 year old boats that look like they have never seen a fender. I looked at many, many when I got back into boating a five years ago . If the thing is a mess and the guy is trying to sell it with old Tim cups and crushed beers cans on the floor, mildew on everything, rips in the seats and the list goes on I bet the engine hasn't seen much maintenance either. Here's where I generally judge a book by the cover. Pyro If your buying used you must put it in the water. It's going to be tough doing this in the winter. you can always do a leak test by filling the bilge with a garden hose and look under the hull. No big deal to run the motor with the garden hose. Pull the plugs, check all the accessories, all of them. Yes it will have to be rewinterized, if the guys not willing to do it don't consider the boat in my opinion. And a well maintained trailer as well. it's $125,00 a tire. You want greaseable bearings, with grease in them. No rust, good carpets on the bunks, side guides. A transom saver. I haven't done a poll on this thread but I think the majority here is saying buy used. I can't remember your budget but I think you are going to have some sticker shock at the boat show. As well those add-ons aren't cheap. A good GPS, trolling motor, VHF, compass, will be up to 2 grand or more for entry level products, another 500 min for lifejackets, fenders, Fire extinguisher, anchor etc. at least.

My feelings are if anyone that makes the decision to try crack cocaine, even once, is not capable of making good decisions in any setting. Business, family, politics basically anything his decision making must be strongly questioned. There have many fall down drunks in politics and coke was regularly used to maintain energy for centuries by many. Churchill was an alcoholic and it's been written he used cocaine but he wasn't surrounded with people with iPhones etc. to report every incident but back then the press would never do such a thing. Kennedy would have been impeached at sometime for his philandering that he most likely would have denied if confronted, again the press and most everyone in Washington knew but it wasn't something the 5th estate would report. Philandering is not an impeachable offence but he would have been caught lying about it. /see Richard M. Nixon and William Jefferson Clinton to name 2 that were called out, even though Clinton became a stronger politician and more popular today, so there may be hope for Mr. Ford after all the dust has settled. I actually like the guy as a guy not a politico. Is there not an impeachment process here that council can force him to leave? If it's been answered sorry I didn't read all 9 pages. This whole thing has become tiring. Maybe time to put it to rest admin.

We started to winterize my 95 Merc Mariner 115 HP yesterday. All was well until it was time to start the motor. No spark. I haven't had any start up problems all year that is until the last run 2 weeks ago. She usually fires up on a second or maybe third crank. However 2 weeks ago it took at least 6 tries before she fired. Yesterday nothing. Plenty of fuel. Put the spark tester on her and have nothing. ( cheap tester is suspect). The only thing out of the ordinary was that we found 1 bolt of 2 missing from the top of the powerpac. I thought it may have worked it's way out somehow, unlikely, but the bolt isn't at the bottom of the engine. Featherstone Ted looked in his Merc manual last night and we are going to work from the fuse panel back this afternoon after I pick up a proper spark tester. The 7.99 indicated from CTC is suspect, put it on the truck and sometimes it shows spark, sometimes not. Any suggestions? Hopefully by the time I check here she's done. Any help is greatly appreciated. Johnny D

Sorry to say Fisherman not much else is made there or here any longer. I sure got the shock of the year when I brought home my first time ever brand spanking new Chevy Silverado in 2011 with the 25 KMS I put on it during the test drive. My Uncle opened the door and said " Lets see where she was made " MEXICO I wanted to cry. México and not México Nevada. So my baby traveled over 3000KMS before I took it for a run. I made steel for the big 3 for 30 years and my first new vehicle was made in México. So I don't think it's much of a big deal a cup is made in China or wherever. México!

Just today I went to Don Hyde in Hagersville to get my Seafoam and Stabil. I've always used a bottle of the Stabil to a full tank for the winter but Mr. Hyde told me to get the 2+4 rather then the Stabil. I've always used 2+4 during the season and Stabil Marine for winter storage. Any comments folks? Also can you over stabilize if there is such a thing? I know the Stabil runs the exhaust blue for a few seconds on the first cold start in the spring. This is such a sad part of the year for me, boat stored and golf clubs put away, UNTIL I HIT FLORIDA AT THE END OF NOVEMBER,WHOHA. For a few weeks at least. Thanks John D

The first time I read this thread the pics of the pups didn't come up. Man the looks on their faces want to make you cry or laugh, or both. They know it's not funny though.

Nothing beats good friends that become family. Thank you for a good read. I still can't figure out how to get my pics to MS SkyDrive and then on here. It's only been a year now with Windows8RT, but I'm close. I'm working on it Miss Joey. All I need now is a fish to take a pic of and remember to bring my camera, I mean my wife's camera with me. I know, I have a cell phone, that's another tech challenged issue. I sure miss having young engineers I could call into the office to do this kind of stuff for me, I should have paid more attention. Thanks big guy. I can taste those beauties as we speak, pic or no pic. Nothing like fresh perch from cold water.

Pics, I hear you. Worked I can't remember how many years of shifts, around 20, 13 years of 21 turns 8 hours shifts with rotating days off then about 7 of that was the 12 hour T schedule. That doesn't include the shifts in the steel plant on weekends and summers in High School. I really didn't like Sunday day shift especially the 2 I didn't reset the clock for and relieved Hutch an hour early. Duh. The crew knew about it before they punched in. A hour every 6 months is nothing when you have a time change every few days going from nights to days on the T schedule like Pic says. Jet lag? Every week we had jet lag. It takes my wife 2 weeks to get acclimatized, she was up at 5 this morning to get to work at 08:30, poor doll. If she has to travel to the east or west coast forget about it. The absolute worst was pulling a 16 hour night and day shift then doubling back 8 hours latter at 23:00 It did come with an overtime meal allowance though, never knew if you wanted bacon and eggs or a pizza, or what day it was, or what month, or what year. I think I've embellished a bit, of course I knew what year it was. I never did get the license number of the Mack truck that hit me though.

There is a simple solution folks to this problem, demand that we all pay 20% or more for our consumer products here and we will talk to someone domestic, in any language you wish. To take it one more step, demand we pay another 20% and we can make those offshore consumer goods here in good old Canada.

Thank goodness for Natural gas. We did have a spring storm that killed power a few years back for 5 days and nights. Other than some cabin fever and Zebra Mussels covering the lake facing windows we were good to go. Snow plows had to come out and clear the Lakeshore roads of deadfall. Kind of like this morning! Looking at 3 to 4 meter waves right now hitting the breakwall.
