  1. Thanks guys. I have successfully gotten deals in the past when doing a big project. Plan to do exactly what G Mech and others have said
  2. Contractor is a buddy from Barrie, so he doesn't have any local contacts or accounts. But whichever one is more likely to give me "contractor pricing" will probably get the business! Heading up there Saturday. Hoping Rona will let me do a "scratch and save" if I open an account, and then add items to that account over the next week or so as the material needs become known. I know this much...crapload of 12 foot deckboards and a wack of 6x6x12's too! Anyone want to rent a cottage next year for their family let me know. Gotta pay for this fancy new deck somehow!
  3. Its a crazy big deck Brian! I am going lower cost materials like pressure treated and basic wood spindles vs cedar and metal balusters. Been a bit since I did the measurements but I think its close to 700 square feet...oh ya...and its a good 8 feet off the ground too!
  4. drugged up rock bass...great. I guess we need to bring back shock treatment as a means of treating depression
  5. Earlier this year we got a cottage up near Hanover. I did a couple small projects myself (couple of floating docks) but didn't really check around on price, just used Home Hardware for all the materials. No clue if I got a good price or got fleeced. Now we have a significant task...replacing a pretty big deck. I have been told to expect material costs to be around $5000. Much more than my $300 swim raft! Anyone have any thoughts on these two potential suppliers (HH or Rona) with respect to price or quality of lumber? Rona has a scratch and save this week-end but I am not quite ready to place the order yet as my material list isn't here from the contractor.
  6. We used to have a cottage near there on "Windfall" lake. I never fished Roberts because it seemed way more populated than many other lakes in the area. The spots I went to (and they had easy access) all offered great pike and bass so I never needed to bother with Roberts
  7. doesn't work on braid...forget it...I will just troll then!
  8. cant say I have ever casted thru a birds nest but it would make sense. Every once in a while you get one where no picking is required, just keep pulling hard on line. Now this video is something else. That I will have to try some time....almost excited for a backlash to happen
  9. fun little twist to make fishing even more enjoyable!
  10. Awesome! One heck of a fish. I have a buddy in Barrie who always casts a dang believer when we go out (for me I just use it trolling as well). So you are not the only one (even from Barrie!) who likes to cast em.
  11. Sounds like a lot of work. I would just buy more minnows next time
  12. ys its a lot of fun out there, I tried the salmon thing for the first time last year and the fish seem pretty accomadating even for us rookies! well done
  13. awesome. Now I wish I had spent some time targetting those when I lived up that way!
  14. rotten bugger. I live in Guelph, have never been to an economy lube and sure won't start now!
  15. that is crazy. Tons of negative publicity for him on his facebook page. He is lucky nobody got hurt because that was absolutely deliberate
  16. I would say 4.5 lbs or so...unless all the other guys laying around it are 3.5 pounders! It certainly dwarfs the others
  17. Bingo! I would love to catch a fish 50 feet down under slip float...the thought has crossed my mind more than once
  18. That's awesome...although your netting skills remind me of a buddy I USED to fish with! In your defense I suppose that net is a little small for that beast
  19. Great stuff! And that musky looks more like 36-38 inches in my opinion. Fisherman usually don't sell themselves short on a fish tale but you may have!
  20. you never know...I squatted on Big Island on Balsam Lake once before and regularly had cows walk through our "campsite". We released all cows
  21. oooo son that's a big'un. No idea on weight. Once bass get too big to use for musky bait I stop paying attention
  22. oh man that would have been a total gong show
  23. fish are gross....what you need are a few big honking steaks and a pile of chicken wings...now that is eating!
  24. Wow you are diligent! 5 years and 8 trips. Glad it paid off in a dink....but next come the big ones. I look forward to seeing those. I fished Nipissing a couple times before my first there...also a 30's...next one on Nipissing? 49. Go get em!
