  1. That lure has some weight (its not light like some other spoons). I imagine I was getting down around 4-5 feet with maybe 35 feet of line out.
  2. I have caught pike, musky, and walleye on five of diamonds...and since I almost never use a spoon...yes, I suppose they do!
  3. well this was that classic candy cane looking red and white spoon most of us have owned since childhood. A lure I have not used in years,,,but when going for pike, why not?
  4. We bought a cottage this past winter near Hanover, and I finally had a chance on the long week-end to try out the fishing there. It has pike, largemouth and various panfish. Pulled away from the dock and was excited to see some nice largies in the shallows...to not disturb them I headed out to 10-15 feet of water and trolled with a red devil (the ultimate pike lure). Well, I did get a wack of pike...but it turns out the trusty old red devil is also quite the bass lure! In a couple hours of trolling probably got 15 pike but also several largemouth. Most of these were quite small...not in spawning mode (too young, out in 12 feet of water). Never caught a largemouth on a spoon before. Anyone else ever find this bizarre pattern?
  5. This Canadian doesn't even know what a silver bass is...but I bet thos L St C muskies sure do!
  6. haven't fished there in years, but we did find it riddled with hammerhandle pike when I was last there (20 years ago?)
  7. pretty big minnow pond you got there!
  8. I guess that's where I am at...although I am very happy with my current boat as well. Kinda like when you have a new girlfriend....you may think of the other one from time to time
  9. Hope he is back here soon
  10. ...and as far as impeller goes...it eventually kicks in...I think motor has a themorstat and needs time to warm up. Willl replace it sometime this summer as a preventative measure
  11. how the story ends..(I did a separate thread on this)....there was a ton of water in the gas tank the original owner gave me. Lesson learned,,,don't use someone else's gas! Freshtrax came over, took everything apart...we drained gas a couple of times...took carb apart twice... got rid of a whole bunch of gas...got er running and now she runs like a champ!
  12. 2 questions...Severn Falls? and how is Princie? still treating you right I hope? (oops I suppose that is three questions)
  13. I fished there once many moons ago. As I recall there is tons of shallow weedy water up there, especially in Little lake. Wasn't too hard to find the pike
  14. that thing is ridiculous
  15. Most of my fishing is done for muskies on L St Clair. Since the people I take are usually pretty new to musky fishing no way am I gonna cast! Couple rookies launching giant baits is not good for my health. Plus in L St Clair you can have 2 lines per person. With three guys in a boat, trolling 6 lines off planer boards, it works out pretty effective most days
  16. I have a curado which I do like...only problem is I troll sometimes and the lack of a clicker is a bit unfortunate. Was distracted while trolling with one of my sons last year when he says to me "Dad why is this real spinning"? Grrrr..turned around in time to see the rod buckled over drag peeling out...and then it was gone.
  17. Man that sucks. Hope they still find it. Check Rush Lake...maybe it made it all the way over there. The water flows that way doesn't it? Or does it flow up from Rush?
  18. ditto on the salty's. I have 4 bolted on my regular boat plus a clamp on model for the cottage tinny
  19. you can't remember a week-end without fishing...I can't remember the last time I did fish. Probably ice fishing sometime in February
  20. There are people everywhere that recycle these kind of things. When I was in Barrie I did a funeral for a man who lost his wife...he mentionned what he did (collect and sell scrap). A couple weeks after the service I dropped off a lawnmower for him to scrap. A few years later unfortunately that man also died...when I met the rest of the family and told them the story, they mentionned how their father had often talked about the funeral director that dropped off a lawnmower for him! Thought that was really neat...so whatever you do...not the landfill...find your local guy who does this stuff and give it to him.
  21. I just picked up a lawnmower like that at a garage sale for 70.00 (and that included a wagon for the kids!)
  22. I remember fishing in there perch so thick you can walk on em some days...and other days,,,wasteland
  23. I will do that...as soon as I figure out what the cylinder head looks like
  24. Great story. Never done a fly-in...and since I have 4 boys who would all want to come along not sure it will ever be in the cards. You certainly make it look appealing though
  25. I did do that...it was pretty hot. Not scalding or anything, but hot enough that made me think maybe it should be replaced. Then again, I'm not sure how hot it should be!
