  1. Thanks for the info. Pretty sure I just transferred my plates from the boat motor and trailer I sold. Sounds like I pay the tax on the boat/motor via the letter, then contact Ministry of transport to make sure the trailer is registered in my name and taxes paid on it. Man I'm glad I didn't have a cheque with me at work! I had already filled out the form with the full value on it including the trailer...OFC saves the day. I'll split the value up, probably call the trailer 1500.00 and the boat is the rest.
  2. Hi Peter, We have a cottage practically across the road from Horseshoe and regularly visit the marina for ice creams with the kids, but I've only ever fished there once. We caught lots of smallmouth and had some surprisingly big pike (close to 40 inches I'd guess) follow back to the boat. There is a really nasty shoal on that lake you will want to learn about, pretty sure its called "Hens and chicks" extends WAAYYY further out than you would expect. Enjoy your summer and if you see 4 crazy boys smeared in ice cream say hello.
  3. forget the water levels, your bigger concern will be black flies at that time of year. I have a "no muskokas until June" policy for that reason...and I have a cottage up there!
  4. same here. Just got my letter as well. When I registered my "new" boat almost 3 years ago I went with bill of sale and cheque in hand to pay the tax at the same time. The lady at the counter told me I could not pay her, I would get an invoice in the mail but it might take a couple of years...she was right, finally got it yesterday! Called the number to tell them I didn't know where I put the bill of sale, could they just assess me "book value" and I would be happy to pay it. Lady on phone told me just to write an explanation letter, indicate price I paid, and send a cheque. So my question is, do I pay just on the boat/motor or do I consider the value of the trailer as well? Although there are lots of sneaky ways to cheat the tax man on this (some mentioned in this thread!), I would like to be honest about it (call me a dying breed)!
  5. Unless you paid cash why would you not have Visa or Bank records? These things generally aren't that hard to get copies of. If you did pay cash they would have a copy of it at the border I would think. Good luck!
  6. I think a 10 foot leader couldn't sink a sledge...them things are bobbers!
  7. How about something a little different? I have a Chevy Avalanche. Look great, lots of seating room, plenty of power to tow your boat PLUS you've got the box in the back to store all your stuff. When necessary you can fold the back bench down to get a full size box. Has a big expensive to fill gas tank but will drop down automatically from 6 to 4 cylinder when not under heavy load...nice feature that saves gas
  8. For musky fishing I have a couple of big rubbermaid bins with holes drilled around the perimeter that I can hang baits off, plus a bar hanging across the centre for hanging more baits. Also have a whole bunch more loose baits lying in the attic. When I go fishing I decide for the mostpart what type of fishing I expect to be doing that day - ie trolling deep crankbaits? casting jerkbaits?. I'll then fill the box up 75% what I expect is the pattern for the day, and the other 25% is in case I guessed wrong!
  9. tape the old one back together, seal up the edges with some gum, should hold most of the gas in.
  10. I know that spot
  11. A bunch of us went down there when we were around 20 years old on a "dry" week-end. 10 minutes after we get there a "Yogi" (not sure if that term still exists)spots a case of beer in one of our trunks as we are setting up...booted our butts out of the park. Needless to say my experience at the Pineries was not a good one.
  12. thanks for the input guys, U B I sent you a pm
  13. Took my 1980's merc 15 hp to a local marina (which will remain nameless for now...I bet Brian could guess)2 years ago for a tune-up. Motor ran fine that season but at the end of the year as I drained the oil from the lower end I noticed water had gotten in, and that the upper screw came out real easily (ie housing stripped). After changing the oil I put the screw back in place and siliconed over it. This past season the motor ran fine again, but in the fall while changing the oil I noticed water had gotten in again. Marinas tell me to change the lower unit housing at a cost of around $500 - not gonna happen on a motor that's over 20 years old. Any suggestions? Anyone want to buy it and tinker with it themselves shoot me a pm!.
  14. oops just read your name...Dundas
  15. whereabouts are you?
  16. I can only afford 30 feet of powerpro (especially after yesterday's Odyssey!) so that's as deep as I fish
  17. agreed. also enjoyed the show. I picked up 2 of Mike's baits and my partner with the big wallet grabbed 3
  18. I have sold 2 sets of tires on kijiji and I can tell you the buyers got a pretty good deal.
  19. haha, sadly down here its a 22 inch pike with a big appetite
  20. if you plan on being cremated you might have just made yourself an urn! (now time to start working on the casket)
  21. strange. I've only fished there a few times (last time was around ten years ago), but each time we caught at least one in the 35+ inch range.
  22. get a boat nobody else would want (ie something you might have seen Relic drive on The Beachcombers)
  23. pretty hard to argue with that! How many years will we see the leafs crap the bed early, play decent hockey when its too late and then miss the playoffs. Seriously, every year when they make this late run there are great hopes for the following year...just to see those hopes down the toilet before October ends!
  24. ...usually means you mentionned someone's favorite spot
  25. better teach my mother-in-law how to steer because it sounds like she'll be boating alone
