  1. buy new house with existing deck
  2. man oh man lots of variables! sounds like the people who installed it a few years back will be getting a call!
  3. thanks for all the tips. Sounds like we're going to give Mitchell a shot
  4. I hear west bay in balsam has a heavy pike concentration. Is Balsam even open for pike? I'm liking the thought of Mitchell, and if that doesn't work it would be nice to know we could scoot over to Balsam
  5. Told my buddy to come up this week-end for some early season pike and we'd try Gloucester Pool or Sparrow or somewhere within an hour of Barrie. Just happened to check the regs., and I see season opens 2nd Saturday in May, and this Saturday is actually the first! My bad. Any suggestions on where we could go within an hour or 2 of Barrie? I thought I heard that some lakes have exceptions and are open all year? From what I could tell it looks like GBay is open as of this Saturday.
  6. flame on pilot is plenty strong, but when I switched it to burner, flame on the burner wasn't that strong and then shut off after approx 10 seconds. Livinisfishin if you want to work out some kind of arrangement as Wayne has suggested let me know! Cottage is a little south of Parry Sound so not too far away, full of small pike and big bass.
  7. sounds like a $100 service call is in my future
  8. its vented directly to the outside via a 15 foot pipe going straight up to the ceiling
  9. At one point I did leave the pilot on for about an hour, thinking air in the line might be the issue. Got the firelace going again, after 10m seconds it shut off...that was when I said screw it and shut the pilot off as well and went back to Barrie! Would an hour of the pilot being on be long enough to clear air out of the lines (tank is maybe 40 feet from the fireplace)
  10. Finally got up to the cottage after 7 months of non-use and thought I'd test out the gas (Propane) fireplace. The pilot reluctantly lit and I was able to get fireplace going, but after about 10 seconds it would make a "click" noise and then shut itself off, including the pilot. This happened repeatedly until I finally gave up. Tank outside said it was still 40% full. Any thoughts?
  11. ...ah now I understand...he was in the bawdy house getting greased up to fit into those skinny pants...sounds like a legit appointment to me (or I guess he could have seen a tailor...but they usually aren't as cute)
  12. can't believe he didn't resign last night during his defeat speech...said he'd do whatever the party wanted him to do...I guess they wanted him to get lost in a hurry (can hardly blame them, can't believe he and Dion are the best that party can come up with. Embarrassing)
  13. in Canada you go home and call yourself clumsy, in the U.S. you definitely sue for something like that!
  14. she's hot...I mean Kate, not the queen...or do I?
  15. better call Jim Saric and get him a rod or 3, he was waving around a "puny" 9 footer at the Odyssey a few weeks back, will be jealous of a 9'6"
  16. if you can't find it at least there are lots of other big topwaters to choose from! I haven't personally ever seen one at LB's, JB's, or BPS
  17. now that you're in a good mood, wanna buy a 15 hp 1989 merc?
  18. Roy was right (never thought I'd say those words ). Its actually a B not an 8, the motor is a 1989 based on the serial number (and it matches photos of other 89's I've googled)
  19. There's a stream that runs from Horseshoe to First Lake, not sure if it would be good for minnows. First Lake is a nice little spot if you're looking for some largemouth. Has a free ramp too
  20. If you go into the marina they will give you a map and mark the shoal (at least they did for me a couple of years ago). I think there are rumours of lake trout also being present (apparently there are some deep areas). Also, that restaurant on the corner of 141/69 has a great steak sandwich, you can boat right up to it, called the Heron I think (the restaurant, not the sandwich)
  21. that's why you get the big bucks Roy! Looking at it in my dimly lit garage probably pretty easy to mistake a B for an 8! Thanks again, when I wipe the sleep out of my eyes I'll go have another peek.
  22. nuts...looked at the link Roy provided and the serial number which starts 083 doesn't seem to show up in the chart. Did google pictures of various merc motors and it doesn't look like an '83, looks like an 89...at least the cowling does!
  23. ...in other words...he's a moron. Thanks Roy
  24. that thing is a football! nice fish
  25. I have a 15 hp 2 stroke mercury where the serial number starts with 83....so I assume this is a 1983 engine. Someone I spoke to (possibly a moron) told me mercury did not make 15's until later in the 80's. The last 2 digits are 89, he seemed to think this was more likely. Is this guy full of it? The reason it matters is I'm about to sell it and would like to accurately reflect the age. The good news is she just fired up on with no problem, pee'd like a racehorse, and a screw that I thought was stripped was actually just too short. Got a longer screw and now the lower unit is sealed up tight...if I hadn't already bought a newer motor last week (2006) I would be keeping it!
