  1. yes, went from a short shaft to a long shaft. Have run it a few times "as is" and it ran fine (just really low in water), would just prefer to have it sit at a level closer to where it should be
  2. I will definitely consider a full console for my next boat...I've had some very wet October/November days fishing behind my teensy windshield
  3. Got a new motor for the tinny at the cottage but would like to raise the transom. Can I use just wood (ie oressure treated 2X4 or 2X6)? Would set that on top of existing transom, and then put a brace on each side so it kind of looks like an upside down U. Motor is only a 9.9, boat is 14 feet tinny (no floor). Was thinking I might only use about 10 to 12 inches in width so the raised area is not that much bigger than the motor itself. I'm not real technical so please keep 'er simple if giving advice! Just wondered if wood be strong enough considering its a small boat, small motor and lake has basically nothing you could hit unless you're 5 feet from shore.
  4. sounds like Pigeon will be shoulder to shoulder. Don't sting them all, I can't get there until Wednesday
  5. definitely Jacobs on hwy 11 if they are still open. Ridiculously low prices. I often give a tip when I go there because I can't believe I'm waking someone up at 4 am for $4 worth of minnows
  6. residence for the first year for sure. Keep your eyes open during year 1 for people you can live with in year 2, and a spot to live in.
  7. lots of shoreline with weedy drop-offs to fish. We caught scads of pike all within a few hundred metres of Boston Pizza. Go get em!
  8. sounds like a great day! What happened to that kid's pants in the first picture though
  9. most of the pike I catch up at the cottage (Parry Sound) are on topwater. If I gotta catch one of them stinky slimy buggers I at least want to make it exciting! Generally I'll use a popper style bait if I'm casting to structure, but have caught lots of pike trolling a jitterbug behind a canoe.
  10. can't get out for opener, but I have 3 days planned at Pigeon for the next week which is already keeping me awake at night. Been a lllloooooonnnnnnnggggggg winter. Even fired some of my new handlebarz bucktails out on Saturday while I was pike fishing. Man those things cast a mile!
  11. if you launch in gravenhust bay there are enough productive areas to keep you busy for most of a day. I've fished L Muskoka a few times and we never really left the bay at all (other than to take a quick look around)
  12. so hanging vertically by its lips that musky stayed absolutely still? Tell me your secret hypnosis because when I get muskies in the boat they tend to want to shake around a bit! With a firm hold I'm able to control the fish, but often with some effort. I believe any fish hanging from its jaw that starts to thrash around will incur damage. I actually saw a show many years ago Leo and ??? fishing pike along the GTA shoreline and they were using these boga (?) grips on 25 to 30 inch pike. Several of the fish thrashed like mad and ended up with huge rips in their mouth that you could actually see on camera. After seeing that show I literally made a decision that I would never use on.
  13. looks like a good day with lots of variety!
  14. looks like a busy day on the water! As far as the musky goes, I wouldn't bother with those grip things in its mouth, do far more damage than good, especially when used with a vertical grip. Also, with musky out of season still....(pictures often frowned upon!)
  15. looks like the one I lost a couple of years ago, apparently some guy snagged it from shore and kept it. You can mail it back to me now
  16. its only 65.00, I'd say pay it rather than worry they come after you. Even at 65.00 that seems like very little, I would think low tax amounts like that set off warning flags...Ie they don't believe the boat was that cheap and start to do some looking into it
  17. its a BIG lake. Where will you be?
  18. pike and bass in our lake and lots of them, seem to exist well together
  19. Thanks for the report. Hopefully these "paddle-boat police" are diligent when it really matters (when people really are fishing out of season)
  20. not sure if this is true, but I've heard rumours of people fishing with strips of white cloth - no hooks. Fish bites down on the cloth, teeth get stuck, you bring in fish.
  21. I would have suggested using spoons as I've never caught a bass on a spoon but it sounds like you already tried that!
  22. wow, fantastic fish!
  23. that's odd. For some reason I thought he had died a while ago. Pretty sure his wife "Miss Elizabeth" has also died. I did notice his real last name was Poffo...at the same time as the Macho Man there was a wrestler by the name Leaping Lanny Poffo...any connection?? I can't believe I know this stuff. Don't tell my wife.
  24. an interesting wear pattern on those tires..I think the tow vehicle must have been driving Dukes of Hazzard style (on two wheels)
  25. ...and in other news the raptors drop to 5th over-all pick...can nothing go right for these guys? I hear Cleveland has 1st and 4th picks after one year of being lousy...must be nice (other than you have to live in Cleveland)
