  1. I saw that Cabela's website a couple of days ago. It is too bad that it has nothing much on fly tying. For me it has nothing. At the start of 2007 I was under the impression that Cabela's was going to open a store in the spring of 2008 in Mirabel (north west of Montreal). Then I find out that BPS is going to open their store there. What happened? Or was I wrong? I was making plans to visit my Mom in Montreal in 2008. But I guess Cabela's had other plans. I hope Cabela's opens a store at the old Molson's Park. BPS in Vaughan does not excite me and I have not been to this store so far. I get the feeling that Cabela's as a store is on level one. And BPS is on level two. Only my feelings. carp-starter
  2. Here is the PIC and the story on the Barn carp-starter http://www.thebassbarn.com/forum/showthread.php?t=147692
  3. I chose "a short walk for speckled and brown trout". If I had no car, I would not have a problem in the spring or the fall. I live about 10 houses from Bronte Creek and 10 to 15 minute of slow walking to get to Bronte Harbour. carp-starter
  4. Amazing - can't you guys decide on your own? Do you guys need a poll? And this is only for one day? Just ask your Mother. I hate to see you guys decide on something a bit more important than as to where to go fishing. carp-starter PS: screw the 3 places in the poll. Go to a 4th place.
  5. When I fly fish, I carry stuff in my vest in Zip Lock bags - including my camera and cell phone - double bagged just in case. When I was younger, I would wade above my waist. These days, I will not go deeper than hip deep. I do not want to take any chances. Today, when I wade a stream that I am familiar with, I am very uneasy and somewhat scared even when the depth is only 7 inches but brown because of a rain. This is why I always carry with me a wading staff. It is better than a third leg. There are two companies that produce water proof cases - Otter and Pelican. I have no idea if any of the cases may be what you are looking for. One company has a case for even cigars. The cases are good for travelling, camping, canoeing and whatever else. There is an excellent company in Canada, Mountain Equipment Co-Op (MEC) that sells Pelican cases. There is a Toronto store and a store will soon open in Burlington. There are stores across canada. MEC also sells bags. Here are the web addresses -- http://www.pelicanproducts.ca/oem/ http://www.otterbox.com/ http://www.mec.ca/Main/home.jsp?bmUID=1217558457430 Click "water sports" and then "bags, packs and cases". carp-starter
  6. Water spouts are common on Lake Erie. We always went on a Friday after work to our boat at Sugarloaf Marina in Port Colborne. One Friday, I found my VHF antenna shredded into strips. Found out later that a water spout went through the marina and some areas on land. There was one large downed tree and several damaged trees near the hospital area which is near the launching ramp area. One thing I do not understand is how a water spout could have brought down large trees or even damaged large trees? When home port was on Georgian Bay at South Bay Cove Marina near Honey Harbour, I saw a photo of Frying Pan Bay - on Beausoleil Island, near Honey Harbour. The PIC belong to a fellow boater who followed his friend into the Bay to look around. On the way in, he took a PIC of his friend's boat. The result was a PIC of his friends boat with a tornado in the background. That tornado appeared to be close to the Bay it was not far from the boats. See below a PIC of frying Pan bay that I obtained through a scan of a PIC in the ports book. carp-starter
  7. This is all small stuff. Why worry. Go fishing. But what are you guys going to do about December 21, 2012? carp-starter
  8. Crappieperchhunter I cannot see myself paying for certain things – one is text messaging. I do not walk and speak on the cell. I have a cell phone from Roger and the cost is $9.95 per month. I keep it for emergency purposes. If something happens to my car in the middle of nowhere, I call phone CAA. There are many other possible emergencies. So ten bucks per month is not much. I have no contracts – it is month by month. Included in the $9.95 price was voice mail – had it for 7 years. Then about 18 months ago, Rogers converted to the new format. After one year, my voice mail got cancelled – will have to find out why because Rogers said that I will have all services with the new format. Of course I get only 18 minutes free per month. I look at my cell phone as INSURANCE at a very low cost. Carp-starter I just cannot see me paying $.15 for each incoming message. At the same time, the same person will send text messages – I do not know the cost. And this is just to receive or send a message. For 6 bucks at Bell one can get voice mail that will hold 5 voice messages. For 8 bucks, I think that 25 voice messages will be held. I betcha that this in most cases will result in lower costs than texting. So, everyone get voice mail and at the same time this will be telling bell and others to go to hull.
  9. Greencoachdog is right. It is for sissies. I do not know much about text messaging. This is what I know about text messaging but maybe I am missing something. It is a message that you leave for someone because the person cannot answer your call. Is this what it is? If it is, then can I suggest something else. Why type out your message using a tiny key pad – it is lunacy. I would not be leaving any text message because I would say – “screw it”. Why not just talk and leave your message and leave the message using voice mail. It is a lot faster and easier. To me it makes a lot more sense. For me, a phone is just a phone. Or, am I missing something. carp-starter
  10. It is all over in Ontario except for the Windsor/Chatham area where it is only a WATCH. carp-starter
  11. pinerider, if that is the stuff you take with you, sooner or later you will be checked by the OPP/CO and you will be fined. Check the thread on OFC where someone got fined $430.00 for not having ownership for the vessel and a flashlight. carp-starter
  12. Roy, your icon "THIS" pointed to item #18 - the $250.00 fine - I think. If this is the case, Not all boats require a licence. I have a 10 foot Zodiac with a 5 hp motor. As far as I knew, I did not required a "licence" and as a result, I did not have to put any numbers on the Zodiac. I was at Service Canada last week because of something else and the lady there informed me that all boats require a licence. I think that this is not the case. For this, read point #3 on the above list everyone. It states - "What types of boats need to be licensed? A licence is mandatory for all pleasure craft equipped with a motor of 10 horsepower (7.5 kilowatts) or more, including personal watercraft. Pleasure craft of all tonnages and lengths may be licensed as per the Canada Shipping Act. Alternatively, pleasure craft owners may choose to register their vessels in the Canadian Register of Vessels." But I will check with Service Canada again. carp-starter
  13. That is “THE LAW”. Otherwise why have laws? A flashlight may appear to be an insignificant item but it may save your life after your motor stops running and you are still on the water when darkness comes along. At night it will also save the authorities money in trying to find you in the dark – if they do searches at night. If not, the flashlight may make someone on shore aware that a boat is having problems on the water. Gerritt I lost my ownership for my 10 foot Zodiac. Go back to your dealer – if you can do this, it will be the simplest way. OR, go to Service Canada and get an ownership form. You then can get under oath at the lawyer office proof of ownership of your boat. According to someone on another site, the cost will be around $15.00. I got two forms – a declaration form and an application for pleasure craft licence. On the declaration will be the licence number which would connect ownership to the licence number and the boat. I think I will check with my dealer first. carp-starter
  14. When I was at university I wanted a car with enough power to lift the front wheels off the pavement when accelerating from start. Whe I got out of graduate school I realized that there was a problem in getting what I wanted - money. So I looked at the British Epic at $1995.00. My father came with me shopping and he did not like British cars - at that time people liked American cars. My father would say - "for a little bit more you can get a XXXX." With this kind of logic, I moved up from the Epic and then to the Nova, Nova SS, Chevelle, Chevelle Malibou and then to Cutlass "S". I finally settled on the 1968 Cutlass Supreme. I found a PIC online showing exactly what my 1st car looked like - all colors, vinyl roof etc. The front wheels did not lift off the pavement but it was fast - I love those V8's. Once in a while it felt really good to lay a strip of rubber on the pavement. carp-starter
  15. I am confused. I am not understanding something. You mean to tell me that there is a max in minutes per month use of the internet and if you exceed those minutes that there is/should be extra charges for using the net too much? Thank you - carp-starter
  16. If you guys are talking about the Toronto GTA fishing, here is the address of that article. http://www.torontosun.com/News/TorontoAndG...017116-sun.html Joey, are you the same Joey who caught the 28 pound carp ice fishing? That is some fish and it was caught on a 4lb test line. It might be a record. If it is you, congratulations - job well done. carp-starter - a "WOW" fish Here is that PIC -------
  17. Black Blade - wouldn't you prefer a BPS instead of a LB in Oshawa/Bowmanville? carp-starter
  18. The expiry date is in the front. But I do find a problem with the picure. It is a PIC of a bass - the same bass as for the previous 3 years. Could they not have shown a different PIC as in previous years? They must be hard up for money even though we the fishers pay for our card. They must have had a good supply of the "bass" cards. I wonder if some jackass ordered too many by an error. Or perhaps fewer fishers are renewing. McDinks goverment is a pathetic group of twits - only 3 more years in power - I hope. carp-starter
  19. At Port Colborne on Lake Erie there are 3 sanctuaries (I think it is 3 areas) where the fishing will start on July 16. They are sanctuaries - NO FISHING AT ALL - from June 1 to July 15. This way, I hope, the bass will be protected. carp-starter
  20. ccmt you stated that - "- Boat/Trailer and motor weighs under a thousand pounds." Do not forget about the stuff that you may put into your boat. This will quickly increase the TOTAL weight and you may end up being over the 1000 lbs towing capacity. carp-starter
  21. You guys are probably right. On TV all I heard was about Fletcher and how the Leafs cannot get a replacement this year and so Fletcher will remain on the team this year. Perhaps Fletcher is the new GM for this year only - or in the position he is in now presently. Sorry ------------- My error carp-starter
  22. Do it Cliff Fletcher's way as to how to become a Leafs' coach. Cliff is now the new coach of the Leafs'. carp-starter
  23. Here in Oakville we can se the Halton dump that is up Bronte Road. The cost is 10.8 cents per kilogram. In your case it will cost less than $75.00. I would much prefer to spend the 75 bucks than to have to cut up the boat in little pieces. carp-starter
  24. I was going to post detailing my situation with Magellan and asking your opinions about the service I was getting. But, I will instead post in this thread by Dutch. I bought my Magellan GPS in 1998 - ColorTRAK. It is in excellent condition - it has been used about 4 times in 1998 and 1999. My 32 ½ foot boat was moved from Lagoon City Marina (Lake Simcoe) to Sugarloaf Marina (Lake Erie) in August 1997. I was waiting for a permanent mount GPS from Raytheon to be put out on the market - Ray was already late by at least 1 year. In 1998 my first trip was to Dunkirk, New York and I needed a GPS - GPS or else I was not going to cross Lake Erie without a GPS. So I bought the hand held ColorTRAK by Magellan. It is a good unit for boat navigation although it had no mapping. It also cost over $400.00. I had no need for a GPS after 1999 because at the end of 1999 my EX and I split up and the boat had to be sold - that is why the GPS was not used much. The ColorTrak has an internal lithium backup battery that was to have been replaced in ten years. My problem is that I want to replace the backup battery. THE PROBLEM IS THAT I DO NOT KNOW HOW TO GET AT THE BATTERY. I am not looking for any warranty stuff, no freebies or whatever. All I want is to pay someone to have the battery replaced or to give me info as to how to open up the GPS so that I could replace the backup battery. I cannot get my GPS initialised so that I could track the satellites. I have phoned Magellan and explained the above story. Magellan informed me that they no longer have anything to do with the ColorTRAK model because it has been replaced by the Trident model. They did inform me that they have a TRADE-IN thing for my ColorTRAK. Otherwise, they do not want to do anything with me. I have phoned 4 stores in the GTA area asking how I can get the battery replaced. No one is willing to help me - all I want to how to open up my GPS so hat I could replace the battery. To the 4 stores, Magellan is like the plague. And this included Genco where I bought my GPS. Genco simply stated that they no longer sold Magellan and that was it. At this point, I just do not know what else I can do. I have a perfectly good GPS that I cannot use because the backup battery needs to be replaced. Because of what is happening to me, I also will never buy a Magellan product - period. I now will treat Magellan like the plague. Thanks for listening to my Magellan story (rant maybe). I have one more thing that I can do - ask the members here for info. Does anyone here know how to open up my GPS so that I can get at the backup battery? Or does anyone here know of someone who could replace my battery. Thank you - carp-starter NEVER AGAIN
  25. Irishfield, the last time the Leafs won the Stanley Cup was in 1967. Since then, POOOF, nothing. 1993 was the year when the Montreal Habs won the cup the last time. ChrisS, the Habs have nothing to worry from the red hot “Bruins”. They are not much better than the leafs – the last time the Bruins won the Cup the last time was in 1972. I am Canadian and I have reached that part of the year where I do not care who wins the Cup – but as long as it is a Canadian team. MUST BE a CANADIAN TEAM. Go Canada Go Carp-starter
