  1. Hi spincast, The people to contact are the ones at The Classic Fly Rod Forum. The category to use is Appraisals & Identification of Bamboo Fly Rods. The address is - http://classicflyrodforum.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=69&start=20 Include the photos that you have. Without the photos they cannot help you much. Include the length of each piece. Shorter fly rods will sell for more than longer ones. Include any writings that you can find even if it is only 2 characters. Check also the cap at the bottom of your main piece. Include some or all of what you wrote in your OFC post. These guys are smart. Include anything else that you may think of. Good luck in getting the info about your rod and good luck in perhaps fly fishing. carp-starter I tried sending you a PM but was not able to.
  2. Check the web site (I found it in 2009) below for: “Albert McReynolds - His Story Setting the record straight” After reading his story, I do not know why anyone would want reveal that he caught a record fish. I think that the previous record holder also had problems. It is not worth it. But then I do not keep fish. I do the C & R bit. It would be a shame to have to kill a record fish for some glory and many negatives. http://stripers247.com/Almcreynoldsrecordstriper.php carp-starter – some want to become famous, eh?
  3. 1967 was a good year.............
  4. Rustic-Fisher PM forwarded. Thank you – carp-starter
  5. Before I bought my home PC in 2002, My Bell home phone number was unlisted and unpublished (yes there is a difference between the 2). No one could get my phone number from Bell – which was good. Needless to say, I saw no reason of paying for a service when the public was able to get my name and/or my phone number and/or my home address on the Net. I cancelled the Bell service. You can get the info via such sites as canada411.ca, 411.ca or whitepages.ca. I know people whose info is not available on the Net. From what I can see, they have a bell home phone number, they own a house, they have a mortgage, they pay property taxes and they do other things that I do. But my info is on the Net and their info is not. There must be a difference between me and them. What is that something “something” that will place your info on the Net and available for the public to get. Or, why is these people’s info not available on the Net. It would be nice to get my info off the Net. Thank you in advance. carp-starter
  6. Thank you Rob C for your post. And I thank Rob C and everyone else because it was your positive words about the 60CSx that made me not hesitate to order one from CostCo. carp-starter
  7. People who cheat or lie will sooner or later get caught. Tiger Woods knows about this. I cannot see why Mike Hart would cheat for a top prize of only $40,000.00, I do not know. Forty thousand dollars would not change my life. Perhaps the reason is greed. Such people do not deserve a 2nd chance as shown by the Bass organization. This is the kind of stuff that gives fishers like us a bad name. Any opinions from you guys? carp-starter http://www.grindtv.com/outdoor/blog/19468/cheating+scandal+at+us+open+rocks+bass-fishing+community/ http://sports.espn.go.com/outdoors/fishing/news/story?id=2870012 http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/2010/aug/23/cheating-mike-hart-acted-alone-rigging-bass-tourna/
  8. Worms are sold at gas stations in "drop your money into the worm box slot"..... Every corner store should have worms in their fridge. Check Fish-hawk web site forums who are located in Ottawa. http://www.fish-hawk.net/hawktalk/ Go down to - Fish-Hawk Marketplace Most sponsors should sell what you are looking for. carp-starter - good luck

  10. I have no complaints about Grand River Troutfitters except for the distance of 50 miles. I am into fly fishing and fly tying. There are 2 things that I want from a store……… “Good service to me means – does the store sell what I want to buy? If they sell it, is it in stock?” I want to hear 2 yeses. If I hear a “NO” at any point, I am out of the shop. If I hear an unhappy groan between the first YES” and the second YES, I am out of the shop because I do not want to hear a sad story. I wrote something as a post in a thread at the start of the year – “Tying: where to buy supplies?” It is located on page 2 at the OOD site. http://forums.oodmag.com/showthread.php?t=12758 You will have to login or register first. Should you wish to read my post but do not wish to register, send me a PM and I will send you a copy of my post. carp-starter
  11. The best team won and now the Habs will pound the crap out of everyone else. Two more rounds to go. Go Habs Go..................... carp-starter PS: I hope the Leafs are watching.
  12. If you will fish mostly for bass and pike, I would suggest that a fly rod for a fly line weight 8 would just about perfect. carp-starter
  13. The Fuji XP10 sounds like a good camera but it has big problems. Here is a review - http://www.digitalcamera-hq.com/products/fuji-finepix-xp10 carp-starter
  14. Good for you. Don't you dare start again. I wish I could do it. I will try again but I start to get headaches at about the end of the 3rd week. Good luck................... carp-starter
  15. Just stopped at the Pioneer gas station on Lakeshore and Bronte in Oakville - their air is FREE. carp-starter IndySKS - oops I forgot that one - lol
  16. Get an air compressor from Canadian Tire and keep it in your car. These are cheap and they are small. They will inflate footballs, soccer balls and similar balls. They will inflate an air mattress when you go camping. They will inflate bike-cycle tires. And of course they will also inflate car tires. carp-starter
  17. Fishermen always look for solutions that become difficult solutions. I have never fished for muskies. But I have fished many weekends for pike. Most marinas have many pike and large ones. I had a 32 1/2 foot express cruiser so home port always had pike. I had the big toy until the year 2000. The only years that were not good for pike were years - part of 1996 and part of 1997. The best years were 1995 and 1997 to the end of 2000. One always heard how good and concerned muskie fishers are to the muskies. C & R most of the time and blah, blah. Here is your chance guys. Make your hooks bar-bless. Just make them bar-bless. Believe me, you will be happy and so will the muskies. When I fished for pike every week-end, I wanted to release every pike - meaning that I did not want the pike to throw the lure. But around halfway in July I would start to chant - please, please, I hope that pike throws the hook. I no longer wanted to release the pike. It is not funny to have the pike jump into the air when I am trying to grab the pike and then have the hooks land on my hand on the way down with the pike still hooked. I always wore a Rapala glove. And on all occasions, I was lucky that the none of the hook points penetrated through the mesh in the glove. Otherwise the fish would be dead cause my hand will always be priority number 1. How would you like a musky or pike still hooked and hooks are in your hand and the crazy fish is shaking all over. All you will need is a smooth pair of pliers. No “ribs” on the inside of the face of the pliers. The results in de-barbing the hook come out in 2 ways. If you just pinch the barb, you will still have a small hill with a barb. You have to pinch to the point that there is a little hill but without the barb. To test out if you have a barb-less hook, just fold something soft (sweat pants) about 3 or 4 times. Then stick, one by one a hook point into the folded part. Now pull the hook out and if it comes out nice and easy and smoothly, you have a 100% barb-less hook. Otherwise, you still have a hook stuck in your pants. Believe me, de-barb and you will make both the musky and yourself very happy. So, muskie fishers, here is a chance to do something good. This would show everyone that you guys are concerned about the well being of muskies. Otherwise it will be nothing but hot air and blah, blah. De-barb your hooks…………………. carp-starter In 1973 I went C & R for trout. In fact it was C&R for all fish. Then soon after I realized that if I release all trout, why should I use barbed hooks when tying flies. No matter how careful I was, barb-less hooks became so much better for the trout. I always pinch my barbs. I sat down one year ago to de-barb about 1,500 dry fly hooks. It was very time consuming. I got tired of all of this work. Last August and December 2009 I ordered on-line tons of “no barb dry fly hooks”. Now fly tying has become simple and enjoyable.
  18. Attached is a photo of a bait caster reel. This is my reel – ABU Garcia Pro Max 3600. On the reel there are 2 drag systems – B and C (star drag). The two drags are independent of each other and they have different functions. Drag C is the same as you would find on a spinning reel on top of the spool. If you tighten C, you will make it more difficult for the fish to pull out more line if he decides to run. If this drag is too loose, the fish will easily run and you will not be able to stop the fish and tire him. Drag B controls the revolution of the spool on a cast. If it is too tight, you will not be able to cast the lure because the spool will not revolve. If it is too loose you will be able to cast the lure but you may get “bird’s nest” - if you do not stop the spool with your thumb. Bird’s nest will happen when the spool keeps on revolving when the lure hits the water or when the lure is coming out of the reel while the spool is revolving too fast. Basically, in both cases, the spool is revolving too fast. To prevent “bird’s nest” you will have to tighten/loosen drag B and at the same time be able to cast your lure. To cast a lure, you must first press knob A. Then you must adjust drag B. Set up your rod, reel and lure so that the whole thing is ready to cast – hold the rod in front of you. Indoors or outside, it does not matter. Press A and check what happens to your lure. Does it go down? If it goes down, tighten drag B all the way – this will become the starting point for you with instructions below. If the lure did not go down, continue with the instructions below. Loosen drag B and loosen it to the point that the lure “just” goes down. Do not loosen B more than needed – just enough for the lure go down. Now we will FINE TUNE the setting. Make sure that A has been pressed with your thumb. This will be the starting point to fine-tuning the drag - by casting a lure. The above setting of B may be just right for the lure you are using. B must be changed and adjusted for every lure. But you may have to tighten B a touch or loosen B a touch. You will find this out when you cast the lure - OUTSIDE. Cast first with the B drag as is. If you do not like it, you will have to cast with the B drag loosened or tightened and see what you like best. Make sure that the spool does not keep on revolving when the lure hits the water. When the spool keeps on revolving, you must tighten drag B or with your thumb stop the spool. With my settings, once that lure hits the water, the spool on the reel STOPS revolving. It stops DEAD. I might be able to get a few yards more in my cast if I were to loosen B just a bit or more than just a bit. But then of course my spool would continue to revolve when my lure hits the water. To stop the spool, I would have to apply my thumb to the spool to stop it. The extra yards gained, if any, is not worth the hassle. It is easier to cast a heavier lure than a lighter lure. With my Berkley Series One rod and the ABU Garcia Pro Max 3600 reel, ¾ to 1 oz is the perfect weight. For anything less than ½ oz I use a spinning rod. Practice with a floating lure. After I bought my rod/reel, I went over to a park on Lake Ontario to practice using a tandem Musky Killer, one ounce. On my first cast I got bird’s nest. While I tried to untangle the line, the lure sank to the bottom. When I untangled the line so that I could reel in the line, I found that the lure was stuck in the rocks. The result was that I lost a $10.00 (plus taxes of course) lure on my very first cast. So, use a floating lure. The heavier – around ¾ oz, the better. I use 12 or 14 lbs Berkley, Trilene and I am happy. After that very 1st cast, I never had bird’s nest again – 16 years ago. Good luck. carp-starter
  19. Fisherman, I will soon use closed cell foam. But I do not know if my foam is the same type that you would use and need. I fly tie and foam is one of the materials that can be used – I have so far not tied a foam fly. But I have bought 4 sheets. There are 2 places where foam can be bought. It is sold at the dollar store or at Michaels or at other craft stores. Foam that fly tiers use starts at about 1/8 inch to whatever. I was not aware that they come in ½ inch thick. Foam that I would buy comes in sheets. As word gets out, more and more American tiers buy their materials at the craft stores because the cost is a fraction of the cost at fly shops. carp-starter

  22. I do not have a waterproof camera but I would like to buy one. I started to investigate at the time the Canon D10 came out. I have a D80 Canon which is not waterproof. I checked on the Olympus, and I think that Pentax has one. Fuji I would never buy and so I know nothing about it. My choice was going to be the D10. But the price at that time was $399,99 at Henry's. Future was more by 30 bucks and Vistek was the same as Henry's. I decided to wait for a price drop. It is now $349.99 at Henry's and Vistek. The last time I looked, Future shop no longer sells it. But then Future does not sell other cameras that it used to sell. Now I am in no rush - I will wait longer. I have checked on reviews. Apparently the one camera that produces the best quality photos is the Canon D10. Perhaps Olympus when it goes to the next step of waterproof cameras, the results will be better than now. If the photo quality by Olympus were better, I would choose Olympus because I like the shape - it is more practical. You can put it into a pocket. With the D10, it is difficult to put a football shaped camera into a pocket. This is all I have. Good luck. carp-starter
  23. I would never use one of my ISP e-mail addresses - which is AOL. I have a system of using e-mail addresses and my system requires more than 7 - 7 is the maximum limit on AOL. So, I use Yahoo. Each Yahoo e-mail address has a specific type of communication or contact. But, Yahoo has a good system. When you open an e-mail account you also have to provide an alternative e-mail address. In my case, my alternative address is my ISP - AOL. If I forget my password for a Yahoo e-mail account or if I forget the name of a Yahoo account, the password/name will be e-mailed to my alternative e-mail address. Be aware that I can come up with a valid Rogers or a Cogeco e-mail address - and it could be not mine. Some forums sites will send to you a temporary password to the e-mail that you have provided - lets say Yahoo. With OFC, provide an e-mail - can be Yahoo. Also provide an alternate e-mail address - Rogers or Cogeco or etc. Send a temporary password to the alternative e-mail address. If the alternative e-mail address is not mine, I would not be able to become an OFC member. If I can become an OFC member, it would be almost safe to assume that I am a real person. The alternative e-mail address is not to be used for member to member e-mail. I belonged to a good fly tying forums site. It has been closed down for over 7 months because of spam. I guess it got hit badly. I know that there would have to be some changes made to OFC software. Or OFC can request your real name. CRAA does this. I think that this technique might limit the number of new members. It is because of this I did not complete my registration to an excellent fly tying forums site. They wanted my real name and my home address. But, I am a real person. carp-starter
