I do not believe it. It appears that it will snow and snow. Nothing much happens in Oakville. The weather predictions are nothing but a big tease. But I am tired of all the snow. But our land and rivers need a lot more water. And then we will soon see Arnold (California) at the front door to see our premier about sending him some water. There are reasons for the governor in trying to be friendly with our premier. I am set. Went to get 2 packs of cigs, cannot run out of food and I have enough gas for the snow blower. The only thing I might run out of are fly tying hooks of a style that I never have used and I want the snow to stop. Crazy Willie is crazy and always WRONG. Normally I do not use my blower until it goes over 8 inches or when it is necessary after the town screws up my entrance way to the driveway or the sidewalk cleaner blocks me off. Then I get the blower out and pretend I am Walter Mitty. But probably I will not have to get the blower out cause the snow will be light and I will have the chance to compact the snow by driving my Civic back and forth. Do not forget, the first good hatch on the UC will be on May 15/8 – my prediction. It will be a bit late this year. If any of you do not have to drive, stay home. If you have to drive, drive safely and be safe. And I hope you all will have a great day, carp-starter Snow in Oakville Tue am - 1 - 3 cm Tue afternoon - 2 - 4 cm Tue evening - close to 1 cm Tue overnight - less than 1 cm Wed – close to 1 cm Thur - sunny Fri – close to 5 cm Sat a trace Sun close to 5 cm Mon close to 10 cm

Iceman, there a few things that you should be aware of first. It is too bad that you can not use 6 to 10 feet of chain at the end of your rode. It prevents to some degree of having your rode scrape against the rocks. A chain also the chain also helps in keeping your line as close as possible to the bottom so that the anchor could dig in the best way it can – your rode should be as parallel as possible to the bottom for a good dig by the anchor into the bottom. The weight of the chain keeps the rode down to the bottom. In my boat I had 100 feet of all chain. I thought I better have longer rope so it can hold the boat in windy conditions in say 100' of water on lake Simcoe A very good idea but with very important but. Within the boating community there are accepted figures that I can give you. It is done through a ratio between the roe and the depth of the water. The ratios should be - it least 5:1 scope, 7:1 scope is the norm, 9:1 scope in windy weather. The scope of 5:1 is good in calm situations. The 7:1 is the normal scope. The 9:1 scope is used in stormy windy weather. Since you plan to fish in 100 foot depths, on a calm/normal day, you will need 700 feet of rode. In windy weather, you will need 900 feet. I like your idea of getting 3 pieces of 100’ rode. You will not always need 300 feet of rode in your boat. There are various things that can be used to connect all pieces. One is the “with a pin shackle”. For this kind of shackle, you will need locking wire to ensure that the shackle pin does not unscrew it self. If it does, you may end up losing some of your stuff. If you need more help, just holler. Good luck – carp-starter

Welcome aboard. I do not know where Doe Lake is. I will give you the chart numbers for Sturgeon Lake and Rice Lake on the Trent-Severn Waterway series of charts. Rice Lake – chart #2022 Sturgeon Lake – chart #2024 and #2025. You can probably get the charts at just about any marina or marine store. Some stationaries will also sell it. Stores that sell maps will also probably sell the marine charts. You can get it online or in person from: ©Federal Publications Inc., 1998 - 2006 165 University Avenue, Toronto, Ontario, Canada M5H 3B8 Phone: (416) 860-1611 or toll-free 1-888-433-3782 · E-mail: [email protected] Web site address is: http://www.fedpubs.com/ carp-starter Double check the number of the charts. I think that in the year 2007 the charts have been updated and so the chart number may also change.

Until about 1982/83 I read only 3 magazines. Outdoor Life Field & Stream Sports Afield When I came in 1981 to the Toronto area from Montreal on a bank transfer , the area for magazines opened up for me. In addition to the above 3 American mags, I subscribed to the following mags. Ontario Out of Doors Outdoor Canada Darryl Choronzey magazine – “Ontario whatever”. Canadian Sports Fishing (Henry and Italo) In-Fisherman In 1992 started to subscribe to boating magazines. 4 power boat mags – 1 Canadian and 3 American 3 sailing mags Then around 1994/95, I stopped reading all fishing magazines. Around 2000, I stopped reading all boating magazines. I quit watching TV fishing programs about 18 months ago. This looked like a ""close down" or a "shut down". But I watch The New Fly Fisher on TV. In-Fisherman was very good. The best one was Ontario Out of Doors because it covered Ontario. Carp-starter I have kept every issue but I have started on some cleaning. I do not know what I have left.

scuro If I may say so, I think you are asking a bit too much. But let us give it a try. There are a number of possibilities. Tie your own If you tie flies, you should be able to tie some of your own flies. You can easily find out which flies might be good for you. You then can find the recipes for the flies - the recipes are not complex. Do not forget, you would be able to get help on this site. Henry W There is a program on TV on Global on Saturday morning at about 9:00am. The name of the program is "Fishing the Flats" and the name of the guy is Henry Waszczuk and his web site is http://fishingtheflats.com/ He lives in St Catherines - I think . If you were to get a hold of him, he might be able to give you some help. Wilson’s Give Wilson's in Toronto a contact. One never knows. Of anyone in the Toronto area within a 3 hour radius, I would say that your best odds of finding what you need would be Wilson’s. WILSON'S 199 Queen E. @ George Toronto, Ont M5A 1S2 416-869-3474 / 877-347-4460 http://www.wilsonstoronto.com/ FT-FF CLUB Contact some fly tying/ fly fishing clubs and ask them by email of your problem. You never know if some club members are going south to do some “fishing the flats”. If they do go south, they would be able to help you. The clubs do not have to be from a town that is close to where you live. Remember, you are desperate. All you are looking for is some HOPE and some GOOD LUCK. Orvis, Manchester, Vermont They are located at http://www.orvis.com/ Take a look at their website and they do carry flies that might be suitable for permit, snook, bonefish, drum and etc. You will be able to find all info on their site. Good luck. Carp-starter

camillj is the only one who has the correct answer. Arithmetical operations – multiplication, division, addition and subtraction is done in this order – M, D, A and S. To make things easier, brackets are used. So the above equation becomes – 10 times 3 plus 5 times 6 divided by 2 (original) (10 times 3) plus (5 times 6) divided by 2 (10 times 3) plus ((5 times 6) divided by 2) (30) plus ((30) divided by 2) (30) plus (30 divided by 2) (30) plus (15) 45 Gambling was not allowed a long time ago. So to get around the problem, people had to answer a question that required skill. carp-starter – QED All I can say – is – I am amazed

I think that it is not legal – the “You Tube boat” method. I believe that in Ontario it is not legal to fish with a “motorized” rod and reel. There are some being used here and I think that there is a fellow in Kingston who can make one for you. The motorized “rod and reel” used in Ontario are being used by the disabled and the “old” who are the only people who get approval to using one. However, there are ways of getting around the restriction in using a toy boat for fishing. In the You Tube video, the boat is used as a rod and reel and this is not legal. In shore fishing, many times the fish is way beyond the maximum distance that you are able to cast. All you have to do is to place your lure on the boat and then motor out to where the fish are. Once you reach the required spot, you simply yank the lure off the boat and then you just reel in the normal way – hoping that the fish will go after your lure. All of this is legal. Another way of getting to the area that you want to get to is by using a kite. This is good in fresh water in Ontario but is it very good on the beach when you surf fish. In surf fishing, usually the most important thing is to be able to cast to maximum distance. If you are fishing at the mouth of a river that has a strong current going out, you can also use a piece of board onto which you put your lure on and have the board taken out by the current. When you get where you want to, again, you yank the lure off and reel in. This technique is best at the mouth of a river on an out going tide in the ocean. The above 3 techniques are used only to get your lure out to maximum distance. They are not used in the hooking a fish as in the You Tube. carp-starter

I also say – let the melting begin. But it is still close to 4 months for the opening of the trout season. But I am waiting for the temp to go up and down a number of times. Under these conditions of temp variation, the Toronto GTA will have some nice holes. And this is where I will be. These holes will be perfect for an Ugly Stick even though I do not have one. As soon as we get a warm spell, I will be out with a chair and hit one of these holes. Oh, sh-t, I have to look for some appropriate clothing. It sure will be nice to put on a pair of rubber slippers and try to hook a fish or 2. When I get back, I will post a report. Good luck guys. carp-starter

Computer Virus Protection . . . . (DEFINITLY N F)
carp-starter replied to Photoz's topic in General Discussion
If you want to use Norton anti-virus you can. If you do not renew, you can still use Norton but you will not get any updates. When I bought my computer, Norton anti-virus was/is a pre-load (no CD). I used Norton. I did not have to do what Photoz had to go thru. I just renewed – Norton sent me many warnings that my renewal date was coming. It was easy and the cost was just under $50.00. I was paying $50.00 for the UPDATES and not for Norton program. I had hard drive problems and so I had to re-install Norton anti-virus more than a few times. I found out some things about Norton anti-virus and how the renewal process worked. I found out how to get registered again, get updates and continue to use Norton anti-virus and not pay $50.00 at re-install time or at renewal time. I was getting FULL SERVICE for $0. You just have to know the workings of Norton anti-virus and Norton anti-virus renewal procedure. When Norton anti-virus scans took 5-6 hours, I decided to go with something else – I went with AVG. Read my post under Computer Help, Tip for Symantec renewal. If you wish to continue to use Norton and you want help to do what I did, just contact me. But, I use AVG. carp-starter -

Ya, the Habs and Leafs games are close games. Yesterday, the Leafs at the end of the game had to score only 4 more goals to win the game. I am calling it a close game - Now muskymatt, do not say "Losers Even After Forty Seasons". We must be nice to the Leafs. Let us say that the Leafs have been "re-building" since 1967 (their last Stanley Cup). It really gets interesting when the front office has also been re-building during most of this period of time. But muskiematt, you are correct - they are losers. When a team is a loser 40 years ago, losers today and losers for 38 years in between, one can hontstly say - LOSERS carp-starter

In July 1981 I was transferred from Montreal to Toronto. Within 1 month I received a letter stating that I was to appear at the Brampton court house for jury duty in November. These guys were quick. So in November I show up. Also over 100 people also show up. After about an hour, we were given the instructions about jury selection. Attendance was taken. We were informed that we would be there selection for one week unless picked to be a juror. Juries had to be selected for many court cases – not just one case. There was a drum that held the names of all the people. The first court case came up sometime Monday morning. The drum was rotated and a name was selected. There were lawyers there for the prosecution and for the defence. The jury member selected was either accepted or rejected by the lawyers. If your name was rejected, your name went back into the drum for the next court case otherwise, you were now a real jury member. The next name was selected and the procedure was repeated until the required number of people for the case were selected and accepted. Once the jury was selected for the case, the next case came up and the above procedure was repeated. This went on for the rest of the week. I was stuck there for a maximum of 1 week unless I got accepted for a court case. My name was selected from the drum on Monday morning. I was quickly accepted by the lawyer for the defence. Just as quickly, I was rejected by the lawyer for the prosecution. The case involved someone who sold drugs and the guy looked “”mean”. My hair at that time was long and so I think it was because of my hair that the prosecution rejected me and the defence accepted me. Sometimes a lawyer would question a person selected. My name went back into the drum for other cases. On Tuesday, the whole thing was repeated. My name never came up. The same took place on Wednesday and Thursday. My name was never selected. When I showed up on Friday, I wanted to hide because on my final day I did not want to become a real juror and be stuck there for another 2 or 3 weeks. My name never was selected after the first time on Monday. It was a waste of my time doing nothing. Bring a book. We were paid about 4 or 5 bucks per day. Since it was the first time for me, the whole thing was very interesting. carp-starter

I cannot find anything online so far but the booklet can be obtained at LB in Ottawa - got this info from Fish-Hawk. carp-starter It seems that there will be a bit more "catch and release" in the new year - limits have been decreased and so if you want to keep on fishing after you get your smaller limit of fish, fish will have to be released.

The fish is a BROWN TROUT. It has all of the characteristics of a brown trout except for the color. The color is a touch strange – but only in close-up shots and because the fish PIC was taken in the dark. Otherwise, the fish looks normal to me. It amazes me how many honorable fishermen do not know the fishing regulations. The standard procedure is that if one does not know 100% of a regulation, an honorable fisher will try to interpret the regulation so that it is to his benefit. But guys, frequently it is said on this site - “ignorance of the law is not an excuse.” Photoz, you stated – “I don't think Rich took an OOS Atlantic salmon, it sure looks a lot like a nice IN-SEASON brown trout to me? Nice fish Rich . . . . . t'was the best I could come up with for you?” Guess what Photoz – Rich’s brown trout is not an Atlantic but at the same time, the brown trout caught is not an IN-SEASON fish. It is still an OOS fish. How about the rest of you guys – what say you? Rich stated – “Caught it on a roe bag bottom bounced and it was a Lake Erie trib.” Lake Erie is in Area #2 where fishing and keeping a brown trout is open all year. Lake Erie tribs are in area #3 where fishing and keeping a brown trout is legal only from last Saturday in April to September 30 (all inclusive). carp-starter

I had a thread deleted - I think it was just around 6:00am on Oct 20/7 (Saturday). It was quickly deleted - real quick. The thread was about a used sock going on the auction block on E-bay. After realizing that my thread was deleted, I went to a web site to check the moon phases for October 2007. I wanted to find out the day on which it will be a full moon. I do not believe it but during the period of a full moon, some people do strange things. On October 25 (today), it was a full moon. I did not think that my tread was offensive at all. But I must have been stupid to not have known that it was or that it might be. It would have been nice for the person deleting my thread, to have sent me a PM to tell me why it was deleted. Because I was not informed, I am still stupid and of course there is nothing to stop me of again posting a similar thread in the future. carp-starter

The law is there to also protect the wildlife such as deer – this law may be the same law under which the farmer killed the dogs. When dogs get in a pack of dogs they become vicious and in the wild they go after deer or anything else they can find. This is especially significant when the snow is deep and covered by a sheet of ice. In such conditions the deer have no chance. Even cute little poodles become vicious and they also end up having mouths covered in blood. Small poodles are cute at home but far from cute when running deer in the wild. I cannot remember the precise content of the law but I may be correct in saying that dogs running in a pack (and especially at night) out in the country can be shot dead by anyone and without any reason. Frequently, even farmer dogs are let loose at night to run. Right now I am hearing on CTV news that the lady owner is demanding this and that and wants proof of everything. It looks like she is not accepting any blame. The last dog I owned were 2 Irish Setter b-I-tches and even these 2 “harmless” dogs would have been happy to run with other dogs in a pack and do whatever is normal for a pack of dogs out in the country. carp-starter

I never had kids. I have no opinion on the above matter nor do I think about it. It is what it is. As my 3 cents, I can say to you to be happy with what you have. I have always believed that the grass is seldom greener on the other side of the fence. I also say that if there is a problem, there is always a solution. carp-starter

I do not fall into this trap. I have learned my lessons many years ago. I want specifics and by asking questions, I will catch them if they are not honest. Ask questions about the product that can be answered only if they have the product – try to trick them in revealing if they have it or do not have the product. A long time ago I have wasted many hours running around and finding out that it was a no. There is a basic and common game the stores play – see last post from the dealer (below in the store-me communication) – about the purpose of the dealer having a sale. In August a store was going to have a sale on fly tying materials. The store also has a message board and so I posted with my shopping list as to what I wanted to buy. I had no intentions of buying anything else. This incident has changed my mind in my buying habits. I believed in supporting the local fishing shop. I have not been to BPS so far and I probably will not. Now I will buy where the prices are best even if it is from the States. Here is the communication between me and the owner of the message board/store. Needless to say, I did not go. For the purpose of this post, I have shortened the shopping list by not providing the list here. Get your materials before the sale is over,,, Sale on until Labour Day carp-starter post Hi XX – I have some questions (shopping list of what I do not have). I do not know if what I want is on sale or if you carry it. I am looking for certain hackle. I do not have hackle from these breeders. - List of 3 – (#1 grade Whiting capes are over $100.00 in Canada – I am not showing the list here.) I am also looking for Daiichi fly hooks. - List of hooks and sizes – barbless hooks, hooks with a larger eye for the size of hook and scud hooks – cost of at least $150.00. I am not showing the list here. I also would like to get dry fly hooks in ##28, #30. #32. Any manufacturer will do. They have to be standard shank, 1X fine, Eye must be straight eye or eye up. Thank you – carp-starter Posted on August 14, 2007 at 06:05:18 PM by XX Your just going to have to come in and see,,,I know nothing about fly tying.. Thanks XX carp-starter post Thank you XX. I cannot just “come in and see”. I live about 60 minutes and almost 50 miles away from the “YY” store. If the store were on the Upper Grand, I would be over. However I cannot see myself coming over to find out that the stuff I am looking for is not on sale. Or if on sale, come over and check myself the fly hooks and find out that the fly hooks are not Daiichi fly hooks. Should I just contact the store by E-mail to find out the availability of the stuff that I am looking for? Thank you – carp-starter Posted on August 15, 2007 at 01:53:39 PM by XX Carp-starter I think you are missing the idea of a sale,,,it is to get people into the store,, Sorry XX

boat launch at Port Severn/Waubaushene?
carp-starter replied to ilario's topic in General Discussion
$20.00 bucks??? WOW !!!!! I also would say it is a rip off. I have a stupid question. Is that for in and out? Or would that be $40.00 for launch and haul out? If you can change your plans, go to Sugarloaf Marina in Port Colborne on Lake Erie. You will be able to catch pike, bass and perch if the temperature is cool enough. There are 2 very good launch ramps and the parking is free. The cost is $10.00 in total. In the string and summer there are usually over 50 boats going out - maybe ever over 100. Once it gets to be a lot of boats, it was difficult to guess the number. And the water is deep. I know because I had a slip for 4 years down there. My 32 1/2 foot boat had to be put in and taken out every year. It might even end up being free for you. I think that there will be no one to collect money but there might be a sign asking you to pay at the offce. But after this long week-end, the office may be closed. carp-starter
