  1. Thank you..... Best of luck?????? Somewhere back in my life I started to look at it as --- - 1/3 being experience - 1/3 being hope - 1/3 being luck carp-starter - in any case, good luck to all. I will be going out on Monday or Tuesday to avoid seeing all the crap that I would see on the weekend.
  2. What crowds ------ And of course, these guys also get into the picture ----- carp-starter
  3. It may be cold for today's date but most of what will come will be just a lot of rain. I know, trout season opens in less than 2 weeks. Here are some PICS from Newfoundland right now. These guys will be skiing until July if they are lucky. carp-starter
  4. Got the following info on poaching from Fish-Hawk. http://www.fish-hawk.net/hawktalk/viewtopic.php?t=23952 http://www.canada.com/ottawacitizen/news/s...333&k=97374 The guy poaching got a $12,000.00 fine for catching 4 spawning female walleye out of season. 12 thousand hurts a bit more. carp-starter
  5. Our Ontario leader and lier probably has no money to buy paper to print the regulations on. I have no respect for him. This delay is ridiculous. A question one can ask is - "who do you trust more - a used car sales man or politician McGinty?' I would choose a used car salesman. carp-starter
  6. http://www.boycottgas.ca/ I believe that a gas boycott would not work and it is all because of a simple reason - we are not and will not be united. In our wonderful world, many people believe and will do what is best for them. A person whose closest gas station is being boycotted, do you think that he would take the time to drive to another one that is 1 mile further away? I hope he will. I will. A one day boycott of a gas station will not affect the gas company too much. But if the same gas company were boycotted daily for 6 months, there might be an effect. Unfortunetely, the gas company may decide to "pack up and leave". Should we end up having one less major gas company, we will be in the same situation as we have been for the last 2 weeks. It is a no-win situation. Perhaps the only solution may be is to have the government step in. We have to realize that the gas companies can raise the price up to $8.00 a gallon and we will still keep on buying gas. The way things are in the GTA, most people have to drive to work. I am surprised that gas prices are not a lot higher. I have wondered why the gas companies have not done this already. Are the gas companies afraid of something - government intervention or a gas "revolution"? Countries in the past have had revolutions - or whatever else. If prices were to increase, what would we do? Nothing much. Do any of you people have a suggestion for a posible solution or solutions?
  7. I read a thread (see below) on a fly fishing site with the heading – “The Absolute Mother of All Fish Porn. 8. douG Proof that “2 is equal to 1” You are correct. In math, division by "zero" is not allowed because it is undefined. And (a - b ) has a value of zero because the very first line established that "a = b". Well done. carp-starter
  9. Proof that “2 is equal to 1” Assume..............................................a = b Both sides multiplied by a.....................a square = ab Subtracted from both sides b square......a square – b square = ab – b square Factored both sides...............................(a - b )(a + b ) = b(a - b ) Divided both sides by (a – b )................(a + b ) = b Replaced a by b...................................2b = 1b Divided both sides by b.........................2 = 1 QED Do you agree or not?? Any comments ??????? carp-starter NOTE - just in case "a square" is the same as "a times a". I cannot type in on this site, "a to the power of 2"

  12. I think I should not say much, but....... My day today???? I cannot remember when I got up but it was early. There was still no rain or snow - what a pity cause I would love to see some day soon and get at least 2 feet of the stuff. The GTA would not only be crawling but crawling on its knees. Maybe Toronto's mayor would do what Lastman did in 1999 (I think) and call the army out. The day went well. The first problem was when I went out to the gas station to buy a pack of cigs. About 8 hours later, I had my 2nd problem. I like Survivor and American Idol and both were on at the same time. Problem - I have to get my VCR fixed. My 3rd problem took place only less than 60 minutes later once the 2 TV programs ended. I decided to get cigs because sooner or later, I would be blocked in when the town ploughs the side walks. And I would not want to go out and clear the snow just to go out for cigs. Now while writing this post, I am trying to decide if I should clear the drive way or let the snow melt. There is quite a bit of snow especially since I did not clear the snow from the last snow fall of last week. If it is less than 8 inches, I let it melt in a day or two. Decisions, decisions. Life is tough. But there is something that I must definitely do - I must go to a store and buy a pair of socks. I do own 2 pair but they are somewhere in a drawer. I have not worn socks since 1999. But today I needed a pair of socks. My feet and legs found out that the snow is cold. Early retirement is beautiful and I love it. Maybe I will pull out the snow blower and clear the driveway. I hope I will not haver any problems on Friday. I hope you all will take it easy and drive safe on the roads. It is rough out there. It is not as bad as it was for Max but it is bad. And make an attempt to make your day a pleasant one because if you do not, the only person that will be affected will be you. carp-starter
  13. Some CAM PICS on the QEW and - Burloak Drive, Bronte Road and 3rd Line. Cars are getting off the QEW and into Oakville thinking that it might be faster than the QEW. It is not that bad except for the traffic. It is the usual stuff. Get ½ inch of snow and the usual 45 minute ride from Toronto to Oakville in the evening becomes a 3 hour drive instead. carp-starter JUST EAST OF 3RD LINE EXIT BETWEEN BRONTE AND 3RD LINE JUSR AT BRONTE EXIT BETWEEN BURLOAK AND BRONTE
  14. Thanks Gerritt. I am very close to what lew has done - almost. Since the 1967 year I also have not watched a pro hockey game except for one Leafs playoff game in the spring of 1994. We had just bought a brand new express cruiser (27' 10") and were docked at Starport Landing - in 1994 it was called Crate's Marina. I got the key to the huge rec room and watch the game. Cannot remember who had won. That one game was enough. It was freezing cold in that room. The next night we went out to Orillia and spend over $500.00 for an AC/DC, 9 inch TV that also had a VCR. But I could not pick up a Leafs game. Neither could I pick up the Leafs on the radio. The next night we again went back to Orillia to rent some tapes. I had to become a member before I could rent a tape. The good thing was that the first tape was free. "Ah, this is good" I said. It was good because I never went back to rent a tape. Always brought tapes from home. It was interesting to see the 1967 players listed. There were 3 players that I could not recognize. Today, I would not recognize any Leafs players except for one - whatever his name is - the one who has never been capable to take the Leafs over the top to win the Stanley Cup. I guess we will have to wait another 40 years. carp-starter
  15. Hi danbo. Guys, this is what I use. And it is also excellent for short lunch. I think Darryl would approve and be proud of me. I am sorry. I could not resist. At this time of the year one sometimes deviates from the norm and becomes a little bit silly.
  16. Hey Clampet, you sure have a good head on your shoulders. I agree with you 100% - you are not only rational but also logical. Come to think of it, also PRACTICAL. You are not a person who believes that one plus one equals three. Many people do. The post by rayfish is a bit confusing. But after reading it a number of times, I am starting to understand as to what is happening. The post falls into the category – “I don’t believe it”. So rayfish started a new job on June – June 2006 I assume. dec 30 the wife and i take the kids on a family vacation So after just about 6 months the rules and agreements have been broken. No vacation during the 1st year is standard procedure I believe - or it used to be. And rayfish went above his boss’ head and got the OK from the CEO because the boss was out of town. When someone goes out of town, one usually comes back. Could rayfish not have waited until his boss came back and ask for the vacation time off? Seems to me like the Dec 30 vacation was a quicky vacation that just happened to come up at the very last moment. Or was it planned to go over the boss’ head in order to get the OK? Now the fun part, my boss and i dont see eye to eye and there have been a few flare ups Interesting. So, at about 8 months at a new job, the new employee and his boss do not see “eye to eye’? And also there have been a few flare ups? Who is the boss? One has to wonder why rayfish left his previous job. Was it because of “a few flare ups”? ask for another 4 days off with out pay personal time, leaving next week sunday to Thursday I do not understand what these “another 4 days off” are. The plane takes off on Sunday and comes back on Thursday – a total of 5 days. Or will only 4 days be taken and it will be back to work 1 or 2 days late? Or are a total of 9 days requested – 5 were originally requested and now an extra 4 days are also requested? God, it is wonderful to believe that it is OK to take off so many days and take 2 vacations in less than 8 months on a new job. Do people work these days? Do not forget that you were hired because the company had work to be done. You were not hired to do what you please and take time off. after a few conversations he still will not give me the time off and has put more work on my plate to insure i dont go So you thought that having a few conversations would make your boss give in to your demands? As far as I see it, communicating with you would be a waste of time. There is only one thing that would be acceptable to you – the time off. You want your boss to give and you to take. Tell me, should the boss give you the time off, what will the boss get in return? If he gets nothing in return there is no purpose in giving in. This is the way things work out in the real world. It is give and take to create a good working relationship. Post again in 5 weeks and tell us what is happening. I am certain that most members here would be interested. carp-starter
  17. OK guys, I think my original post was not clear. I apologize for this. I am not looking for specific info on Quetico Provincial Park but such info would be most welcomed. It can be any other wilderness area with many lakes where there are portages, canoeing, photography, wildlife, scenery and whatever – a good example is Algonquin Provincial Park. Because of my bad back, I think that portages will be out for me. If this is the case, I will be restricted to a smaller area where lakes are connected – no paddling and no portages every day but I will have a lot more fishing and less of scenery/wildlife. For many people who do go to Quetico, portages and canoeing every day is high on their priority list – would they be for you? Would I be giving up much if I were to stay at a home base for the 5 days instead of portaging and paddling every day? Or do I suffer with my bad back and do the portaging every day? Paddling is no problem except that fishing time will be shortened. Thank you – I hope that I am clearer this time carp-starter MIKE – the more time I spend investigating Quetico on the web, the more I realize how little I know about Quetico. And I thank you very much for the info. Quetico does sound like an awesome place to spend some time at.
  18. Yes, I plan to take a lot of photos. I will bring at least 2 cameras – 1 digital and 1 35mm. In the original plans, the direction of travel was from west to east – Beaverhouse Lake to Nym Lake. I do not know in what direction the current would be but I am OK with the wind direction. And as far as I know, the portage from Batchewaung Lake to Nym Lake might be the most difficult - especially if one takes the shorter portage. I would be happier with less scenery and an easier trip because of my bad back – it is the walking that is killing me. Thank you DanC. carp-starter
  19. I need help with my trip to Quetico Provincial Park next July/August. Or it might be in September for the best fishing. My original trip was – 5 days, fly-in by float plane, about 40 km to paddle back out to civilization and about 6 portages. There would have been fishing, camping, canoeing, paddling, wild life, scenery and etc. But I can change my original plan according to my outfitter. I would like to go on a float plane (1st time) so that I could take photos. Fishing is number 1 on my list. I like camping and it is required since there are no 4 star motels in the wilderness. I do not give a hoot about portaging – many people love it and this is OK with me. Lately my back has been killing me. So, I do not really want to portage because I could be stranded with my bad back in the middle of nowhere. Paddling for 40 km is not really my cup of tea although one would see a lot of the wilderness – wildlife and scenery. I love wildlife but after the 1st or 2nd moose, all the rest of the moose will look the same to me. It would be much more interesting to see a variety of wildlife. So, fishing is #1. If there is good fishing, I would be happy to stay at 1 camp site during the 5 days and I would take day trip to other lakes if I wanted to. Even 2 camp sites during the 5 days would be OK with me. I would much more prefer to fish instead of paddling for 5 days and 40 km. I you guys had a chance to go to Quetico Park, what would you choose and want to do. Assume that you would have choices and you could choose anything that you wanted. What would you be looking for in a such a trip? Would fishing be #1 on your list? Would you want to stay at one location or more than 1 location? Give me your thoughts. carp-starter - thank you for your help
