Lake simcoe had giant sturgeon too at one time as well as Atlantic salmon !!!! They had huge fish weirs and would spear spawning fish in the shallows !!!! There is tons of stuff on the internet about lake simcoe over the many years very interesting

Yes they made it to an island they were very lucky !!! Like my post says from 2 days ago !!! IF YOU DONT KNOW DONT GO !!! Glad they all made it out ok and were rescued .... I'm afraid there will be more incidents as this latest cold snap has given a false sense of security !!! It's supposed to get quite cold so it's helping a lot but still pretty dicey in lots of areas .... Be safe everyone. Cheers & happy new year

I am the same as the poster above said I will NOT give spots out as I know things are not safe and I won't be responsible for anyone drowning !!! They are ice fishing the kawarthas !!!! ......IF YOU DONT KNOW DONT GO !!!!! and in a lot of spots there is 4-5 inches of great ice and 6 in some but just be careful and spud your way out and fish only where you can see not in the dark and a lot of spots you only need to be 60ft from shorw

2 bodies while ice fishing on lake scugog as well as a few boats a canoe a paddle boat and many things I have taken off the lake while I was fishing like beer bottles and barrels and even floating lawn chairs !!!! The list just keeps going .... But the seeing the 2 dead guys that drown was not nice when they pulled them up ..... I seen it all and will never forget that .....

Yes there is but you have to be very careful !!!!! Have been all over the kawarthas & to Haliburton and it's very different on each lake for sure guys are ice fishing and have been for quite a while but most are locals just be very careful as we did have lots of rain & the rivers are up for sure !!! It's gonna be a bit before we have ice that's good & solid it's getting cold this week and will help a lot What a winter ....... Grrrrrrrrrr

They have been ice fishing in the kawarthas now for weeks !!! No snow on the few lakes around me but seems to be 4-5 inches is the norm !!!! stay away from the obvious danger spots seen a few guys on my lake this morning
