  1. Good to hear Mike. It wasn't clear in your post. I was just trying to imagine my old man with a pin...kinda made me throw up in my mouth a little bit
  2. Thx for that tb4me. We have a nest just down from our place in Bobcaygeon. Mornings and evenings I walk over with a coffee or glass of wine and have a good chat with them. Beansie and I chat with them at another nest near our carp spot as well. Can't wait to get back up there!!!
  3. Great report Mike. Always glad to see the pictures you and others take of there adventures. By any chance did you just let your old man give it a go with just a spinning reel? I ask because my dad has a buggered up hand from umping baseball. He got spiked on a slide at home plate and it has never been the same and the cold really bothers it.When we go perch fishing in the fall he has the gloves on all weekend. He can manage with one of my old reels with a BIG BLOCKY knob. It isn't pretty...but he comes back for more every fall so I know he is enjoying himself. Maybe a 1300 Whisker would be the ticket for your dad when you get him out for chrome again.
  4. Eyes, Houseboats and bikini's....that's a true Kawartha post right there. Just need my morning coffee and a picture of an Osprey nest with a few heads peeking out and I'll feel right at home! Oh and thx for the walleye tip. If I decide this summer to give the carp a break I might just give it a go
  5. Congrats man!!! Fishing in the back yard...you lucky son of a gun. I haven't fished St John in years and have only ice fished it, but I always wanted to have a boo at it in the summer sometime. I always thought it was a nice looking little lake. Post some pics when you have a lawn chair set up at the edge of the lake and your sippin a beer and setting the hook
  6. Get er done Jack. Lookin forward to seeing both you old farts ... and telling fish tales.
  7. By the look of things I'd say you got yourself a fishing partner for life. Congrats to both of you.
  8. It won't be long beansie. Get your crappie gear ready to go!!!
  9. I know your a fan Bill. I have owned a 86 , 98 and 2002 golf. Was a big fan of VW....BUT...every model I have owned has got more expensive and had more issues then the previous one. I will not be buying another VW. The price combined with the fact that they are not the same as they where will have me looking elsewhere next time.
  10. Another year on the green side of the lawn, good for you old man Enjoy the day.
  11. To each there own. If this becomes a pay site it's been fun, but I'll be gone.
  12. I grabbed one for the cottage a couple of years ago. I think they do the same sale every year. Can't go wrong for the price.
  13. Good luck at getting 2 more to join in on the fun. If my plate wasn't so full I'd be all over it myself. Biggest cat I have ever caught was about 3-4LBS from the Moon river a while back. It fought like a demon and ever since then some real big cats have been on my fishing "Bucket List"
  14. They lived on Simcoe for over ten years and can tell that frozen perch in a bucket came from there just by looking at them That is the absolute biggest line of crap I think I have ever heard. I've fished perch pretty much everywhere in this province. And they all look the same. There is no difference whatsover in a Simcoe or Kawartha perch. If I knew who spouted that line of crap I'd absolutely never EVER believe another word that ever came out of there mouth from that point on.
  15. Stopped doing the sports shows at least 10 years ago. They are all shadows of what they once where. I'd rather spend my day off fishing.
  16. Yep and I have a bag or 2....but I can't buy a fish on them. The man has the touch...that's all I can say. Some fishermen catch fish cause they put in the time....that's me. Some catch fish cause they just know. Buckster is in that group. PS Tony...I love you like a brother...but I hate you too...lol.
  17. SMACK...Sir may I have another... SMACK...Sir may I have another... Bring it on Ryan, I can take it!
  18. Congrats to your daughter. Sounds like she is doing something she enjoys to be that dedicated at it. Good for her. I'm proud of both my kids....most of the time
  19. I fish crappie for the fun of it. The few I keep I generally give to friends or family or use in my fish chowder, mainly because taste wise they are my least favourite panfish. Nobody gets my bluegill fillets though, unless you come to my house and eat them with me. Much better table fare in my opinion. And I also agree ounce for ounce nothing beats the scrap you get from a big gill on your line. If I could get 14-15 inch Bluegills I'd be in heaven.
  20. Hey I've watched you put a big hurt on the Slabs using your Tony's specials...as Beansie calls them. HEHE...you will get buried in PM's now. But this winter I did clean the tackle shoppe in Innisfil out of my secret colour that they don't make anymore so I should be able to at least catch as many as you this spring. Should have seen the look on the kids face when I took all 11 bags they had left
  21. Get some Fin S Shads.... 1.5 inch size.... made by lunker city. Ice shad or arkansas shiner color, or find your own color that works well in your area. Your tubes will pretty much collect dust after you try these baits. I have never used live bait for crappie. And I have not used a tube for 6-7 years at least. Bring on the spring crappie !!!
  22. Agreed...BPS...is a mere shadow of what Cabelas is...on every level.
  23. I like wandering through and would probably do it regularly if it was closer. However it is too far away for that. And I can buy locally cheaper then I can at BPS and save the drive so I just don't go. I have been in the store maybe 5 times since it opened. Except for a good pair of hunting boots I probably have not spent $50 there in those 5 visits.
  24. Thank you for sharing your adventure with us. Very envious here.
