  1. Well done and thx for the report on the conditions...I hope to get out this weekend. Just starting playing with a Vex this winter. Man it's fun watching them come up like that and then feeling the thump
  2. Wouldn't do you any good Cliff. The wolf would take one bite out of Beansie's tough old hide...spit it out...and come after you anyway
  3. We need a Clint Eastwood emoticon that spits and glares after your "No you don't" statement Kickingfrog.
  4. By far Canada's best period of hockey in the Olympics so far. The cat was sitting on my lap for the 1st goal. I did a big woot and a fist pump and scared the crap out of her. She hit the ground running...6 feet from the couch...and is still hiding under the bed upstairs And I got a couple of good scratches on my thigh Stupid cat. Still hasn't learned NOT to sit on my lap when I'm watching a HOCKEY GAME.
  5. You got out and got slimed. Sounds like a good day to me. You must be fully recovered from slaying smelts on the weekend. Thx for the report Emil.
  6. Up 4-0 and you don't let a player take his own penalty shot? I don't care what the International rules are. You just ripped the heart out of one of your players. I can't even begin to express how much I think that was a terrible decision by Babcock.
  7. Sounds like a good idea. I picked up some hali dropper hooks to try as well on my raps. Haven't actually had them out for a swim yet though.
  8. Unless our boys get a little more passion in there game...tonight won't matter anyhow...cause Russia will eat us. Hope something sparks a fire under them, it's been painful for me to watch.
  9. I agree it would be good to have everyone trained and competent at this. But truthfully if you don't use it you lose it. Meaning even with the training how many could actually perform CPR properly?Since 1980 I have been certified...my company sends me to get re-certified every 2-3 years. Having said that I would be terrified to actually have to do it to someone, cause I am just not 100% sure I would be doing it correctly. I would 100% for sure be right in there to help out if someone's life was on the line, but that person would be way better off if someone else stepped in to help instead of me. Ideally someone else would step in and I could go for a timmies run and get a coffee for the hero and the victim while all the stressful stuff is going down
  10. I've received alot of PM's and suggestions here from many of you. A couple have suggested using stingers and I think that would be my option of choice once I check some out to see if they will work for me. Truthfully I have tons of these jigs so it could be years...or never...before it could really be a problem. It does however seem that Rapala has a problem here that should be addressed. Thanx to all for taking the time to offer your help.
  11. Like I said I fish these alot. The hooks maybe small but the stock hooks have a nice fine point..perfect for tipping maggots with. Most small hooks if not thin or sharp enough can really butcher a maggot. My perfect solution would be getting the exact hooks from rapala.
  12. Myself I would be grateful for any help. BTW I fish perch big time in the fall in the uptergrove neck of the woods
  13. I use #2 and #3 size jigging rapalas for perch in the winter. My go to weapon of choice as a matter of fact. This winter I have had the bottom treble come off on 3 separate occasions on me. The gap on the top where the hook is attached sometimes is a little wide and the fish can actually shake it off. I have gotten into the habit of pinching the gap with some pliers before I go out so I probably will not donate anymore trebles. However I am having a heck of a time finding small trebles to replace on my 3 "Bare" rapalas. It would be nice if Rapala solved this problem or made replacement hooks more readily available. Until then if anyone knows a source for small replacement trebles I would be grateful for any help.
  14. Good job gentlemen. Jordan's smile says it all. Believe me Emil I know just how your back feels. Took me 3 days to fully recover from my adventure down there with Cliff and Bruce. But it sure is fun
  15. Very envious of you or anyone getting the opportunity at a dream job like that.Thx for taking the time with such a great report to share with all of us.
  16. Nothing wrong with that. A work buddy gave me some homemade red wine...Merlot I think...to sample. Good stuff, but only one bottle Got some maxwell house brewing right now to take it's place. BTW up our way it was on sale this week at Loblaws Superstore. Thanks for the coffee tip earlier this week my friend.
  17. Was there any Alexander Keith's harmed in the making of that school?
  18. Nice haul Emil. Looks like you got some cleaning to do now. Keep at it buddy, you'll get your laker. If not give me a call...I'll show you how to catch lakers
  19. I just used scissors. Cleaning 492 smelt is a time consuming ordeal. My time also includes all the prep work and cleaning up the kitchen afterwards to Deb's satisfaction Next time down I think I'll spend more time chatting and less time fishing. Will save me alot of work in the long run.
  20. Sorry folks no pics unless Bruce or Cliff add some. Big Cliff shows up at my place at 5 and then we head for Beamsville to hook up with Bigugli and terrorize smelt at his spot farther south. The smelts where tiny but very plentiful. We fished from 8-2 give or take and had smelt in our holes the entire time. I'm not sure what Bruce and Cliff ended up with but when I got home I dumped my bucket out and I had 492. 3.5 hours later I had 4 good meals of smelts tucked away in my freezer. I just wanted to post this as a thank you to our host Bruce for a great day and the care package of homemade relish, bread & butter pickles and dills he sent home for each of us. I hope a road trip down your way every winter for a day of smelting through the ice can be a tradition we carry on with. I know I sure look forward to it Thank you also Cliff. Always nice to share a day out chasing fish with you. And a partner on the long ride is always a bonus. Good weather, good friends and good fishin...pretty much a perfect day for me. Except for the 3.5 hours of cleaning smelt But I know that when I'm feasting on them tasty little buggers I'll forget all about that.
  21. Good job Ted. I'm always amazed at your old man. Last time I was on the ice with him he got mad at me for cutting holes for him and then he grabbed the hand auger from me and cut a few more I know you have heard me say this a 1,000 times. But I'll be happy to still be on the green side of the lawn when I'm his age. But to be able to still do what he does, that's something. Glad you guys had a good day. I'm sure a day on the ice was just about the best birthday present anybody could have given him.
  22. First of all did you see the nice little laker in Emils picture....er...sorry...that was his last post . Nice job Emil. Glad the weatherman co-operated. Nice weather really helps when you bring the kids out. Although I remember your young lad toughing out that cold windy day last winter down Niagara way for smelts. Thx for the report.
  23. http://www.duenorth.net/camphorizon/ Stayed with these folks for a week every summer until we got a cottage of our own. Ruth and Denny are good people. Small lake with very good fishing for all the species they have listed. We always caught lots of eyes every year, and I also managed loads of good sized perch and smallies fishing the 12 ft weed line 100 yds off there beach. Nice little sandy beach for swimming. The place is not fancy, but it's clean and everyone is friendly. Always coffee on at the lodge and people to shoot the breeze with if your missus likes to sleep in. Ruth's homemade donuts and tarts are to die for. They take care of you so they have a huge repeat clientele so they might be full, but I highly recommend these folks. If you have any questions feel free to PM me.
