  3. The first official, annual Thanksgiving in Canada was celebrated on 6 November 1879, though Indigenous peoples in Canada have a history of celebrating the fall harvest that predates the arrival of European settlers. Sir Martin Frobisher and his crew are credited as the first Europeans to celebrate a Thanksgiving ceremony in North America, in 1578. They were followed by the inhabitants of New France under Samuel de Champlain in 1606. The celebration featuring the uniquely North American turkey, squash and pumpkin was introduced to Nova Scotia in the 1750s and became common across Canada by the 1870s. In 1957, Thanksgiving was proclaimed an annual event to occur on the second Monday of October. It is an official statutory holiday in all provinces and territories except Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Newfoundland and Labrador. The first American was celebrated in 1621. We have the same tradions as our American cousins. I’m of European descent, our family learned the tradition and have celebrated for 58 years. My kids take it for granted.

  18. OI again, sorry for your loss. My family went througt that with my dad. After and operation and after seeing him. They asked, what if, we said nothing he passed with an hour or so. Mom, we/they knew it was coming , and they kept her comfortable and passed on with no pain. I have seen people lay there for years and with no sign of recovery, why? Everyone suffers in this situation. When my mom was in, Dr Maida , An amazing person told us this is a war we can fight but the outcome will be the same. She was 90+ we let nature take her course and shortly after she passed. It will happen and why suffer.
  19. Sorry for your loss OI, remember the great times you had with her. My father hadn’t seen a frozen lake until the early 80s, we walked out at 9th line ORO I pointed to the huts and flags flying in the distance, snow machines going back and forth at high speeds . . He looked at me and said “ voi sieti shemi” meaning you guys are crazy. He did like the white fish. Crazy you are but the fish are good!
