  1. check out kijiji there was a place i believe in Markham that was selling refurb hyundai inverter generators 2000 w for 230 bucks plus tax with a warranty. Not a honda or yamaha but for that price hard not to look.
  2. right at about 4 hours for you is Restoule, quiet park, good hiking trails, bike trails, park has 2 beaches,,can access Stormy lake from the park to give you a more secluded remote experience, park and lake has little traffic compared to others farther south. The fishing is great for walleye, smallies, musky, lakers and pike.Excellent waterfront sites also. North bay only 40 minutes away for day trips.Amazing scenery. Another is Bonnechere PP near Pembroke, again will be 4 hours for you,but great park with an awesome beach. Has a ton of great waterfront sites and fishing is good for bass, pike and walleye. When we went we did a day trip to Ottawa and Hull and also did a day of whitewater rafting.Again amazing scenery. If you want anymore info on either just ask,I have also been to Bon Echo and Sharbot Lake both are nice and have great features as well. Some of the parks farther south such as balsam, six mile, emily and south Algonquin are nice but very busy and lots of boat traffic,if you want a quieter more relaxed setting the others will offer more of that.
  3. another couple options are look for a private renter. Most are alot cheaper and flexiable on milage. The other option that a friend of mine did. After finding out it was going to cost about 4000 bucks to rent a RV for 2 weeks to drive out west with his wife 2 kids and in laws,he and his father in law bought an older RV in excellent shape for 12000.used it for their trip and sold when they got back for 10500. So the actuall cost was 1500 plus some taxes.
  4. thing is most of us on here own boats, atvs, snowmobiles ,drive gas guzzling suvs,or pick up trucks, drive great distances to hunt, camp or fish......we are helping create the demand for oil and with the demand comes the needs to get oil to where it is needed......so until we change our demand for the product corrupt governments along with money hungry oil companies will do whatever to cash in at the environments expense,,,,,,,bottom line it is all about profits and revenue.
  5. camping or cottage? boat or no boat?...I would look at the French River, lake Nipissing area, lots of water, lots of fish ,lots of resorts and campgrounds and great scenery
  6. maybe also check out silver lake....just a couple minutes away from sharbot lake...it has some great waterfront sites where you can beach your boat at.
  7. I have been and docked at both sharbot and emily. Both have good docking but they are located rather far away from the actual campground, Sharbot docking area is fair distance from the camping area. Both places i just launched and put it back on trailer when done for the day and parked it on the site.I would be pretty hesitant to leave anything of value in the boat there. Six mile has good docking which is right tight with the campground, but you have to pay for your docking there. There are some great parks that have sites in which you can beach your boat right at your site in view at all times, restoule, bonnechere are 2 but not sure how far that is for you.
  8. i would go with the smoker, for 2 reasons, being closer to max hp the performance and gas mileage should be better....and for me i would take the wider hull over the longer one everytime.
  9. "I say if you want a motor that has ready available parts and service go mercury ,you will need them....if you want a reliable outboard and want to spend your time on the water rather the repair shop go yama, suzuki or honda." direct quote from a good friend of mine who has been marine mech. for nearly 30 years....mercury mech. at that...he owns a yamaha......
  10. just to add, take any dead auto battery to your local scrap metal place....the ones in the London area give you 11 bucks for everyone you bring to them.
  11. since i seem to spend alot of time in the back country camping, fishing, boating, canoeing was thinking of buying one of these for emergencies. Price is 249(mec) and plans start at 14.99/month and can be suspended ,started and changed at anytime. Allows you to text anywhere and even post to facebook and twitter with global satellites. Anyone have one or at least heard any feedback? thanks http://www.inreachcanada.com/
  12. I would second Restoule. I have been vacationing there for over 20 years now, including last 18 with kids.Never rented a cottage but there is Eckford's camp and Martin's camp. Not sure what is happening with Martins i know Bing(owner) had it up for sale last summer, but I am sure it will be operating. Both rent cottages, boats, canoes and sell bait. Martins has the only gas available on the lake. Fishing is good for walleye, bass, pike, lake trout, whitefish ,also stormy and restoule lakes have plenty of very large musky.Several back lakes in the area offer good bass, pike, specks and walleye fishing. As for day trips North Bay(shopping, parks ,waterfront, cruises) is only 40 minutes away,Mattawa an hour and there is Restoule Provincial Park which has beaches, bike rentals, picnic area and some good hiking trails. All about 5 hours away.
  13. I will be in the area for 4 days starting tuesday and will have a couple days to spend ice fishing. If someone could recommend a lake or 2 that has easy access that I will be able to pull out my gear in a sled and punch a few holes,or even a lake that rents out huts it would be greatly appreciated. As always thanks for any info.
  14. Just booked a couple nights camping in the provincial park. Now Looking for some info on the lake and the park. From what i have discovered the lake has good fishing for walleye, whitefish, and pike. If anyone could share some info about the area,it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
  15. I have 3 kids in hockey the oldest is playing jr B,my daughter plays midget A and youngest boy plays peewee A. Lets just say I have been around the game alot in the last 15 years,I have coached boys A to AAA and have done some scouting for a jr team. The one thing I have noticed in the last 5-8 years is growing disrespect players have for each other on the ice. The amount of cheapshots seems to be increasing every year. My oldest has had a broken collar bone, and a seperated shoulder from hits from behind that threw him into the boards. My youngest just finshed a playoff series that saw the other team have 4 kids suspended during the series and his team 2 kids all from hits from behind. My daughters team has had 2 girls suspended this year for the same and have several other senseless penalties for body checking when there is no checking in girls hockey. I am not sure where the blame lies, the kid,the coach or the parent. I have come across many coaches who coach this style and dealt with many parents who enforce this type play in their kids. Sometimes it is just the kid,can not control themselves.Sad to think this is being taught to players but in many cases it is true. Hope your daughter is okay and the player gets a suspension.
  16. the many times we have stayed in a bungalow on Nipissing, the fish seem to shut down shortly after dark. We leave lines in all night and have never caught anything. Soon as sun rises the action starts up again.
  17. Well the story I have heard a few times about Nolan was he went behind Muckler's back to higher management over a issue he and muckler did not agree on. There is a reason why no one else(other then the islanders) have gave him a another shot, and it has nothing to do with him being native.
  18. I have 70 suzuki 4 stroke(branded as a johnson)...had it for 3 years, absolutely love this motor, quiet, great on fuel and not a problem . Has been flawless. Apparently there are huge in Austrailia ,New Zealand and Hawaii
  19. During our summer vacation we would like to spend 3-4 days car camping in Algonquin. Of all my years camping and fishing in that area i have never been to Algonquin. So we are going to slip away for a few days from Restoule and would like car camp in one of the campgrounds in the park. If we book now looks like we could get a descent waterfront site in some of the campgrounds. I will bring along my scanoe with 5 hp,and probably the kayak. I will be fishing while there, species are not really important but some brook trout would be great as well bass and pike. Wildlife viewing is also a big feature,moose,wolves,bears,etc...love to take some photos with the dslr nikon. So if anyone could reccommend a campground it would be much appreciated. I was looking at the one near Kiosk but herd it is very busy with water traffic compared to some others. How about Pog and Kearney ,Tea,Canisbay or Mew? Also can I use my 16 ft boat /w 70 hp on some of the lakes that have under 20 and 10 restrictions if I only use my 5 hp kicker or bow mount? thanks again
  20. was in Erie PA over the weekend and visited the Gander Mountain Store. Had some great deals on lures Stike King and Termanator spinnerbaits were half off lots of sizes, colours and blade patterns,as were some models of rapalas, also picked up smaller size cleos and mepps spinners for 1 dollar.Lots of selection on all sale items. Several other soft plastics were 50 percent off,as well as lindy jigs and jigheads.
  21. trying to hunt down a used ultra quiet yamaha or honda generator in the 1000-2000 W size. I want it for camping to run a few lights and small appliances and charge batteries. I will even consider a new one if someone knows of a sale on one,any leads will be greatly appreciated.
  22. my mom was the 13th born in her family and i was born on friday the 13th,,,,,so i am going with 13.....plus i was a huge Marino fan.
  23. concentrate your times to 2 hours around sun up(7 am-9am) and 2 hours before sun down (4pm-6pm),not saying you won't catch outside this but it seems to be the most productive times. A simple minnow(shiner or dace)on a tip up near bottom works well or a fluttering spoon tipped with a whole or half minnow with a jigging motion also works well. Check your tip ups often to make sure minnows are alive and jig them a few times to get them moving. Also many times while checking lines i have had a walleye on the line, never seen the tip up move.
  24. walleye hawger...tipped with a shiner..has great to me on nipissing walleye and perch
  25. actually my wife works for canada post and the return letters are written by high school students as volunteers to get hours ,my daughter is one.
