  1. the one my dad still beleives...that pike loose their teeth in the summer and thats why they are hard to catch in late july and august.... i have tried to tell him but you know when your set in your beliefs...... http://www.dnr.state.mn.us/volunteer/mayjun03/pike.html
  2. I seen a large musky doing this once and we watched it from a dock for a couple minutes. When it circled around close enough we noticed it had a large sucker in its mouth, actually most of it down his throat. After a another few minutes it dropped down out of site.
  3. Sundridge and South River will both look like Trout Creek soon,a ghost town. The gas stations, small restaurant, hotel and even the guy who use to have a summer long garage sale in Trout Creek are all gone. I hope the Burger Pit(double decker) in Sundridge stays around and i will try to stop in still for a bit to eat. Truly sad.
  4. just a heads up to jitterbug and hula popper fans went to CT last night to pick up a couple jitterbugs for my summer holidays in a couple weeks up at Restoule. They were all 9.98, then I came across a 3 pack ( 2 jitterbugs and 1 hula popper) for 14.99 yes they are Arbogast .....score 1/2 price ...they only come in the same colours in each package but they are good ones green frog/white belly jitter, black jitter and coach dog hula. IMHO these are the 2 best top waters and the price makes them even better. Watch out Restoule smallies and musky.
  5. want to clean my snap down boat cover it is dirty and does have some mildew stains. Is there a product that is safer to use for this and after cleaning do you have to apply a spray to help it regain its water repellancy? On line i have found sites saying to use a mild soap and water and then maybe a diluted bleach solution for tough mildew stains. Some also suggest sraying the cover when cleaned with a vinegar/water solution to prevent mildew. Has anyone cleaned their cover? What worked for you? Any suggestions would be well welcomed....thanks again
  6. 2 years ago i had to decide between a 2 stroke etec and a 4 stroke Johnson(suzuki) did lots of research on both engines ,ask several marine techs and came to the conclusion both had their pluses and minuses and the fact there was not much difference between the 2,either would be a good choice. So i went with better deal on the 4 stroke and absolutely love my motor not a single complaint...by far the best motor I have ever owned....saying that I am sure I would of been just as happy with the etec
  7. can someone recommend a place in the London area to pick up a marine starting battery that has a descent price, mines dead. Also any good recommends on a brand. It is for starting and running the fishfinder ,radio and lights. I have a seperate one for the bowmount. I have not heard of good things from the CT ones Natulius. AC Delco still make marine batteries,I bought one years ago from Cosco that lasted 8 years, but now it seems like they carry only Kirkland.thanks for any advice
  8. well after buying a quality gauge the tire pressure is down from the cheap gauge. The tires are the right speed rating and weight rating(ST 175 80 D 13) that is not the issue. It seems they were running about 10lbs under the guideline. They are bias ply tires but when i replace them i will spend the extra and go with radials. For now i will fill the tires to right pressure and hopefully all will be good. The tires are only in their third season and have less then 2500 kms on them.
  9. why are my trailer tires wearing more on the inside of the tire then the rest of the tire? And yes i have checked tire pressure. They also seem to be wearing on the outside more then the middle also. The bearings are good, tires are newer 3 rd season, and are the right tires for the trailer, and no i do not overload the boat, usually just some gear. So what gives? Is it an alignment problem? If so how do you correct? thanks
  10. well if you watched the TSN crew after the game they all agreed the ref did see the puck was loose and he knew Scrivens did not have it frozen. After the buffalo player kicked it he probably lost sight of where it went before it was poked home. Bottom line is the goalie never had it so it was a free puck, good non whistle
  11. the launch is patrolled regularly by the park officers as it is part of the park. Make sure to display your permit if you park down there.
  12. with a zodiac you maybe able to lift the motor up and ride the current down to stormy using your paddles. i have done it in a canoe. It will depend on the water levels, august might be pushing it though. You could also just walk it up and down the 100 or so yards where it is shallow with some rapids. The bridge is high enough you will not have to duck.I have never had a problem leaving my boat in over night at stormy, sometimes with all the gear in it. While beached on the campsite I leave everything in the boat, rods, tackle bags the only thing that has ever gone missing is some leeches to the coons at night.
  13. I do have one of the best water sites booked, you have to book early if you want one of them.As for the free entry ,just take your your vehicle permit and show it at any PP and you get a free day pass.
  14. Bill what i think nofish4me was saying is that these people who committ such acts have mental health issues and as a person who has worked several years in mental health i can tell you such individuals have lost all rational thought and do not think of the consequences of their actions and sometimes involve other innocent people in their actions with little or no thought of the circumstances,it is almost always not intended to be a malicious act.
  15. I booked my holidays last 2 weeks of july at Restoule pp back about 6 weeks ago. If you are looking for a day trip you might want to think about Restoule, just up the road from where you are and with them being both PPs you get free entry into any PP. Good fishing there for bass, walleye, musky and pike. If you like Mikisew then you will love Restoule.

  17. Yesterday 13 Wisconsin anglers were rescused from the ice from the Manitoba side of Lake of the Woods after being warned about unsafe conditions. Today one of the rescuers wants the group to pay their cost,i agree stupid people must start paying for their misadventures. Here is a link http://news.ca.msn.com/local/manitoba/us-fishermen-on-manitoba-ice-floe-urged-to-pay-rescue-bill
  18. my understanding is the rainbow trout that have been stocked in the great lakes were steelhead(migratory sea run)west coast fish and have develop the same characteristics in the great lakes(migratory) so are called steelhead. I also read recently that they are more closely related to pacific salmon then first thought and actually might be better catagorized as such.
  19. well if you are at the old vic try fishing the dam beside labatts which is only a couple minutes away. There i have caught a real mixed bag from walleye, pike, suckers, carp, gar and even a few rainbows.Right now i am sure it is loaded with suckers but there should be some pike around as well. Also the ponds in pond mills have panfish, carp and when i was a kid there were pike not sure if there are any still around.
  20. seen quite a few guys fishing the north branch of the thames where it crosses highbury ave on saturday just down from fanshawe. With the weather and water running high i am sure there must be walleye up that far by now, there is also a few pike kicking around in that area.
  21. wow i live here in St.Thomas...romantic would be the last word I would use to describe it. Seriouly there is nothing here in town I could recommend to you. Now only 15 minutes away is London with lots of entertainment, restaurants, museums, sporting venues, and more importantly lots of hotels from very cheap to 5 star not to mention several inns. If I were to point you to one that would be romantic it would have to be The Iydllwilde Inn On Grand ave check it out www.idlewyldinn.com
  22. I am going up in the morning for a couple days and i would like to get back up on the march break week again for a couple more.
  23. when is the season closed is it the 15th or the 7th? I have been given 2 answers. When are huts off and when is the season closed? thanks
  24. with it sitting for so long i thought maybe a good idea to run it so it gets some lube in the cylinders. But i guess just spraying in some storage spray and turning it over would work
