  1. My next tiller is going to be a yammy, hands down. I don't have a 60hp for comparison though.... S.
  2. I had a very stable 17ft Old Town. Me and a buddy (who I trust with my life in a canoe) could stand and fish out of it no problem. We could put 4 dozen duck decoys, all our gear, guns, and a dog in it, and go anywhere. I loved that canoe. It was a great boat until someone decided they liked it more than me, and stole it! S.
  3. Are they water testing it, Mike? It just doesn't make sense to me.... S.
  4. What exactly do you mean by high speeds? My lowrance will show depth at 30mph if its not real bumpy. Its usually the height, and level of the 'ducer that makes the difference. Mine likes to be tipped down just a little, rather than perfectly level. If I'm downrigging, I usually tip it up, so the beam is pointed a little to the back of the boat. It picks up my cannonballs, and sometimes even my dipsies if they're close enough, but it won't mark bottom at high speed. You could have it mounted too close to a strake along the bottom of the boat, too close to the engine, or even a line of rivets. Anything that will create air bubbles going under the 'ducer will throw it off at high speeds. S.
  5. Yes, I know all about trim tabs, but I still think a 16ft aluminum should get up on plane and run smooth with no problems. A bigger boat, with a full load of fuel/water/gear, I understand, but a 16ft fishing boat doesn't make sense. I was hoping the tabs may slow me down a bit. I have a spot between 1.7 and 2.3mph that my boat won't go. I get 1.7 on the electric, and 2.3 on the main....I usually like to troll right in the range I can't get with either Its funny, I have been in A LOT of 16ft lunds, and they all got up on plane, and ran smooth no problem. Are you sure your hull isn't hooked or something?? Weird.... Sure, the tabs will be an improvement, and I'm glad the OP is happy with them, but I still think there is something fishy with the set up. S.
  6. Yeah, my boat porpoises like crazy if I lift the motor up one hole too. It doesn't take much to set it up right. I agree that the tabs are just a band aid. That boat should run mint, and move right along, no problem. s.
  7. How much did the tabs slow you down at a troll? Just wondering..... I still think its odd that your boat behaves like that. Something isn't right IMO. Glad the tabs worked for ya though! S.
  8. I agree. I've noticed the same trends. S.
  9. Nice musky and congrats on a new PB! Thats a great fish for that lake! S.
  10. He probably already has another shipment on its way. No doubt he will get a slap on the wrist, pay the fines, and be right back at it asap. S.
  11. Atta boy Bob! Nice haul! S.
  12. That will work. If your boat is the same as mine, the wood in the transom only goes down as far as the water line. S.
  13. Yep, what sinclair said. If you want to launch off the north shore of the river, go to the sand bar launch, on sand bar Rd. View lake is a decent launch, and you get to fish the whole way up to the locks in lindsay from there. You can pretty much fish it all in a good day if you wanted. If you want to fish downstream of the locks in lindsay, you can launch off St. Paul rd, in the park. (the name of the park escapes me at the moment, sorry) Good luck! S.
  14. Nice to hear your getting out Erik! I hope you guys slay 'em!! S.
  15. Most workers I know hate the harnesses. They wear them, but aren't hooked onto anything most of the time. I've never liked working on any scaffold....unless I put it up myself. S.
  16. Shoulda bought a yammy! Sorry I can't help with the etec. Never ran one, and I don't even know anyone who has one! S.
  17. I want to know what you've been doing to your nets to destroy them? Thats one piece of equipment I've never had to replace. I did, however, replace the mesh on my musky/salmon net just last week, with one I got from Lew. Great improvement, and got it slimed the next day, so it has some luck with it as well! S.
  18. If its a stocked pond, and has no in/outflow, he can fish it all he wants, and whenever he wants. If it has in/outflow, he has to follow the open seasons. S.
  19. We caught gobies thru the ice this past winter. Some of them were 6" long. The perch were feasting on them. Just last week though, the perch a friend of mine were catching were full of the normal crayfish, so who knows. The lake is certainly changing. Where are the whities now?? S.
  20. I just installed a Panther, retractable kicker mount on a friends boat, as well as the EZ steer set up to link the two together. Its pricey, but really, the best way to go. Works great. The nice thing about the retractable mounts is it puts the kicker far enough back, that its in good water for extra bite when steering in rough/windy conditions. I think the kicker, mounted closer to the transom, would have a hard time making turns in the wind, so close to the main engine. I could be wrong, but my buds set up works slick. I'd never seen the kicker bracket mounting plate before....not a bad idea either, as long as it will hold up. S.
  21. ^best idea I've heard yet! I can't stand the thought of what its going to take for my kids to spend a day on the water with thier kids. S.
  22. Yup. I like the stocked rainbow lakes. Usually easy access, and great fishing. I get mine in the top 10ft of water all year round, over deep water. Usually, at first light, they are up top feeding on the surface. I usually get them with cricket hoppers, or trolling a small gang troll with a wet fly about 18" behind. No weight. A small worm harness with half a worm will get them most of the time too. Specks can be hit and miss right now, but they are always worth the adventure. Fish them real early, or just at dusk...unless its an over cast, or windy day, I find them hard to get once they are out of the shallows. Lakers should be in the top 20-40fow if your trolling. You can also do well jigging. I catch lots flatlining rapala tail dancers. I forget the number, but they run 15ft deep. I usually run them back 30ft off the cannonball, down 10-30ft. S.
  23. I spend more time fishing trout in that area. There are tons of options within a half hour drive. Any species. S.
  24. I've found the best pickeral fishing up there in the narrows between benoir and elephant. Tons of pike. Bass aren't as plentiful, or big, as they used to be. Musky are spotty, but usually good size these days. Fish the cabbage weed beds in the middle of the lake on elepahant with a white spinnerbait, and you'll catch all types of fish. Hit the narrows on your way back in the evening for a few eyes. Good luck! S.
  25. Their range is expanding for sure. I was talking to a local trapper a few years ago who had just caught his first one ever around Lindsay. I've since seen a couple road killed locally. The warmer winters have to help! S.
