Sap was flowing here today for the first time. Nothing crazy, but its a start! This week lookks MINT for my area!! S.

I'll take a fresh cod any day! I was raised on it. You'd think a guy would get sick of it, after hauling traps full of them 3 times a day, cleaning up to 15,000 lbs of them.....but I still love it. The last time I was in NFLD, the first one I jigged up I took a bite out of it lol. My old man salts his own still to this day. Gerrit, that salt cod meal you posted is similar to what we call "fish, fat, taties an dat". Its basically the same, but we use fried salt pork "scrunchions" for the fat part, and dont add the hot sauce. The fish and brewis is basically boiled salt cod, with hard bread. You could google it. Cod au gratin...or whatever fish you choose ( I like perch or pike, has to be kinda meaty, solid fish). Just take a glass pan (9 x 13) make a white sauce (butter, flour and water basically) put a layer of fillets, layer of white sauce, then your favourite cheddar, another layer of fish, sauce cheese....until full. Top off with cracker crumbs and more cheddar, bake until ready. Can you tell I just wing it? LOL. No real recipes. Its funny how newfies and europeans share a lot of similar meals. My old man is a chef. I grew up eating well, and still love to cook. I do 90 percent of the cooking at home too. S.

looking for Pontoon Trailer guides.... in Canada?
Sinker replied to Raycaster's topic in General Discussion
Take those pics to a welding/fabricating shop with your pontoon on the trailer and I bet they could rig it up for ya. S. -
I vote for Fisherman on this one. S.

They are targeting hunting and doing well in that department. Its a great shop, just need to addd some more fishing gear. They will. They seem to bbe good at pleasing customers. I should stop in there more often, im probably missing out on some good stuff.
-
Drop in at my place on the way thru. If you plan it right, I can take ya fishing. I guarantee fish too S.

How can maple syrup NOT be organic? I mean really.....the stuff comes from a tree. Sheesh. s.

Atta boy James! I can't catch a freakin whitie to save my life this year, but only tried twice. Feel free to send me a PM with locations I can walk to LOL. I'd love to hook up and stock up on jigs. My supply is dwindling bad. S.

We had a great time there. I'd even go back to try and find that sneaky turtle!!! We looked everywhere!! S.

I kinda have a milk run of species. First ice eyes, then perch, then trout/whities, last ice perch, then ice out perch, then crappies until walleye opens (maybe ice out trout too), by then walleye is in full swing until late june, get a couple musky trips in, great lakes trolling, more early fall musky, then its hunting, hunting, hunting until ice up. Never enough time. S.

Nobody knows when prime time is.....HA! My sap will be collected while I fish salt water in cuba S.

That may have been Lori and I who got that ball rolling. They needed musky gear bad, and within a week had a great selection. It was Lori who was bragging to them about all the fish she's caught on your inlines LOL. For a new shop, they are doing it right. There not much around here in the way of outdoor stores, so I hope they stick around. They also have an indoor archery range. Pretty slick too! S.

Im also away the first week of april. Kinda sucks, but we got a screaming deal for that week. Im hoping I can get a couple boils done before then...we'll see. My neighbour helps me when im not around, so its all gonna get boiled regardless. S.

East hill is just north of the 4th concession. Not a bad little shop. They're hunting section is pretty good, great gun room. The fishing section was OK last time I was there, but I havent been back since. I heard its better now though. I drive by it every day and forget to stop in. S.

Id say thats a yamaha built mariner myself. If the plate says made in japan, its usually a yamaha. Your parts will be yamaha parts. That is a great little engine. Like Chris said, dont ever part with it. Any idea what year it is? The serial and model number on the plate will tell you everything. Good score! S. -
You'll have to wait for photos. I'm not usually one who takes pics of my food.....I just eat it. Next time I make either I'll try to remember. S.

Every spring is different, but it always happens. Better to be ready when that first drop of sap flows, than to be tapping while its flowing. I'm not predicting anything. I'm always wrong LOL I'm pretty much good to go. Just a few more trees to tap, and gear to clean. I just boil on a 2 x 2 flat pan over a propane burner. I do 80L of sap at a time. Takes forever! Tapping in snowshoes is always fun too. S.

Fish 'n brewis! With real salt cod made by my old man and hand turned as needed. Cant beat it! Second to thaat would be cod au gratin, but use fresh perch fillets....YUMMY!!! S.
-
CT in fenelon should have it too.

When does it change?

I started tapping this week too. Sugar shack is cleaned up and ready to go. This will be the first year im ready early. No issues tapping early. A lot of the big sugar bushes start tapping in january. It will be a couple weeks here by the looks of the weather, but better to be ready and get as much sap as you can. Whats your set up? I love sugar season!!! S.

Only thing I'd miss is my redhead socks. They are awesome! S.

Pretty much the same as what I do, except I use beer instead of water. I find it crisps up better for some reason.
