  1. My syrup has been really light so far too. Ive had a lot of compliments from people who hhave tried it so far. Funnyy how each batch is a little different. I boiled 55l off last night and got 1.75l of syrup. Pretty good yeiild from that batch, and its delish! Im outta here in the morning. Where you headed smokestack?? We're going to veradero. S.
  2. I tie my leaders on with uni-uni then add a small barrel swivel a couple feet from the lure. No line twist issues that way, and I dont like reeling a swivel thru my rod. If a big fish runs at the right time, that s1ivel coming back down the guides or off the reel can lead to a heartbreaker too. Like you say Drew, a million ways to do it! S.
  3. You guys getting any sap up there yet? Its been slow going here, and now that im headed south on vaca, it looks like the run is going to let loose. Ive got 10.5L finished so far, and another small batch going now. I have a buddy of mine collecting for me while im away, and expect to be swamped when I get back. S.
  4. I totally suck at icing crappies. Just cant find the buggers! As soon as the ice goes out though, they take a serious beating! S.
  5. Hes a lucky dog Simon! I miss my chocolate. Roloff is a lot like my new black lab. Spunky!! He lives for that ball, eh? Lol S.
  6. Heat up a safety pin, stick it in where thhe broken bit is, let cool. Once cool, heat tube with lighter and broken bit may pull out.
  7. It really depends what your looking to buy, but the two sites mentioned above are both great. I use protackle for lots of gear, and lure making for my worm harness supplies. S.
  8. Well, this is working out swell!! Thanks boys! I've made arrangements with Cliff to get him the float. Hopefully I can be available to help with the docks, but I say that every year, and it never works out with my work schedule. Maybe this will be the year..... Ketchenany, Pm me your address and I'll send you some of my syrup! S.
  9. The lakes are still making ice. No sign of letting go any time soon. S.
  10. Btw, Cliff and Manjo, I have an old styrofoam buoy, about 2ft diamete, maybe 3ft long that would probably work great for what you need to do. Its yours if you want it. If the timing is right I might even be able to deliver and help put the docks in. Pm if interested. I can s2nd a pic. S.
  11. If you need to get rid of wine pails let me know. Thats what I collect my sap in for maple syrup. Can never have enough.
  12. Bah!! Work SUCKS!! Im off to cuba wed for a week after that too....
  13. I will never understand why the river guys and the lake guys cant just unite and make one huge powerful group. They are the same fish!!! Saying the lake guys are clueless is laughable at best...just walk the rivers in early oct and see how many clueless people you see fishing. Now, take a cruise out on a great lake and see who is clueless. Im talking about actually catching fish here. Great lakes fish at least have to bite before you can catch them. Anyways, i'd say this thread will be locked in a few anyways, so i'll just bite my tongue. I havent caught a brown for years. Send some this way, or take me fishing Steve S.
  14. Thanks for the info! S.
  15. Doesn't that prove that catch and release works?? I couldn't make it to the meeting, and I'd love to hear what was discussed and what the plan is now. Anyone?? S.
  16. I find the 5" screen small when split to gps/graph too. I spend more time zooming in/out than actually fishing and navigating. A separate dedicated GPS is the way to go if you have the space and money for it. S.
  17. Can anyone sum up what was discussed at the meeting? S.
  18. Happy Birthday Norm! S.
  19. I drove all over the lake yesterday, but I wouldnt today. Conditions change almost hourly when we have freeze-thaw conditions. That said, I would bet the next couple weeks would be fine for walking. S.
  20. We'll never know until the ice goes out. We could get a hot, dry, summer with no wind and be choked with weeds yet. S.
  21. Thanks for the info. Im gonna try it. I find the same with the Fin-s fish....they work the best, and they're tough as nails too! S.
  22. I dont think it will myself. I have aa different lowrance unit, with the same transducer and it has no speed. S.
  23. How big is that minnow jig in the first pic? Fin-S minnow? I love my Fin-S minnows, but never tried them for jigging lakers....might have to giver a whirl! S.
  24. The sugar content does increase when you remove ice. I let my storage bins skim over, and remove the ice each morning. My sugar ccontent went from 2% to 3% after doing it a couple times. Im considering thawing my buckets enough to get the solid chunks out, letting it skim over in the pan, and skimming off the ice for the next few days, but its a lot of screwing around to thaw them out. I have a few buckets that are going to overflow when it starts running that i'd like to empty at the very least. We'll see how ambitious I am over the next couple days. Perchin tomorrow, but off wed with no real plans. Lol S.
