Missing my OFC family here is what I have been busy with
Sinker replied to Handlebarz's topic in General Discussion
Keep making quality gear, and treat people they way you do, and you will rise to the top, Mike! My son and GF both caught new PB's on handlebarz this year to boot! We love em! Gotta get me one of those sweet bump boards now too! S. -
Interesting thread. Keep us posted on your results. I wish you all the best in your journey. S.

I know guys who dont start crappie fishing until after 7pm and stay till 11pm. On the ice, real shallow, weedy water. They slay 'em. I havent tried myself. In the fall we get them after dark from shore pretty good too. S.

Video of a "sportsman" dragging a trophy Musky to his truck
Sinker replied to Old Ironmaker's topic in General Discussion
Pretty much the same as pike, but they are so big to be legally kept, they don't eat as well. Just like any fish, the bigger they are, the worse they taste....IMO. S. -

If I could keep a small musky....lets say a 30"er.....I'd eat it. The problem is they have to be so big to keep, they're hardly edible by then. The kawartha's are loaded with them, and 99% of them are released. I don't see what the big deal of keeping one is at all. If its legal, go for it. My dad used to keep them when the slot was 36"....they were OK eating, but still a little big for my liking. I'd take a 16" walleye over a 3lber anyday. S. -
Thanks for the report Tapout. Great to hear from you. I always enjoy your ice reports! Those are some hog perch! I hear they are big this year, but nobody seems to be getting great numbers. I havent been out there yet....hoping i'll get there tomorrow! S.

How to keep finger tips warm in the winter
Sinker replied to okumasheffield's topic in General Discussion
Im no expert either. I just do what my grandfather taught me when I was a little boy with cold hands seal hunting on the north atlantic off the northern peninsula of NFLD. Dont ask me about the theory behind it, but it works! -
What kind of electronics do you use on the ice.
Sinker replied to Hellfish's topic in General Discussion
You dont need anything fancy. Get the lowrance, and rig the transducer on a stick to put down the hole, and mount the unit on a small cooler or tool box to hold the battery. Works as good as anything. I use an old lowrance X-96, or a hummingbird 570 portable. They both mark the same fish as the most expensive flasher, and do double duty on back lakes or rental boats. I have a permanant mounted lowrance with GPS in the boat. S. -
How to keep finger tips warm in the winter
Sinker replied to okumasheffield's topic in General Discussion
Dip your hands in the water, or scrub them with snow. They will stay warm once they warm up again. 99% of the time my hands are bare, the rest of the time I wear thin WOOL gloves. The only time I wear proper gloves is when running a machine across the lake or through the trails. Sounds weird, I know, but trust me, it works. S. -
I find the trick with whities is to eat them fresh. Once you freeze them, they just arent the same. Even when they freeze on the ice I find they arent as good. I usually batter and deep fry them. S.

OMNR is a pretty sad set up these days. Its not the mnr staff, but the politics behind them. It maddens and saddens me at the same time. Such a waste of resources in this province, and always put on the back burner until its too late. Thanks for your effort. I thoroughly enjoyed reviewing your report. Interesting to say the least. S.

I always use tim hales. Ive been out with a lot of operators on thhe lake, and find he has the best equipment, and is the most honest. There are a lot of shady characters running huts on that lake. S.

Take a close look at the does Lew, they could be bucks that have shed their antlers already. I bet if you went snooping back there you'd find his antlers too. Pretty cool to have that in your back yard! S.

22lb laker. Scared the crap out of me. It was OOS though, by about 7 hours. Caught it fishing walleyes on new years eve at dusk, and laker season didnt open until midnight! Caught on a tip up with 10lb mono and handlined the whole way! I was only 15 when I caught it! Havent come close to topping it since!! A few high teens, but nothing over 20 since! It was my lucky day. I didnt even get a photo.... S. -
How to keep finger tips warm in the winter
Sinker replied to okumasheffield's topic in General Discussion
This! Believe it or not, it works. Best way to warm your hands is to start off by getting them really cold. That gets the blood pumping to your digits, and they stay warm. -
Quinte is a big body of water. Where were you thinking of going? I would say by the weekend, you'll be good to go just about everywhere by foot.....but check as you go, that place has crazy ice. S.

Has anyone installed the IPilot add-on to an older MinnKota?
Sinker replied to Raycaster's topic in General Discussion
co pilot is just the handheld remote, no? I don't really see much advantage to that for my fishing style. S. -
Come hook your TDI to my boat and launch it anytime. TDI is great for long hauls with no gear or passengers, but your not towing or hauling gear with one....right? Thats what I thought. S.

That section of lake is known to be a dangerous area too. The guy had a cottage on the lake, and fished a lot. He knew better, took the chance for the first ice bite, and lost. I feel for his family. I bet they had no idea what he was doing. S.
-
Your TDI's aren't hauling boats and carrying loads, so kinda useless in a truck thread. Just sayin.... S.

Scugog takes a few lives every winter. Spud as you go....every step....or end up like this poor soul. S.
