Ive been dealing with frozen water lines for a few weeks now too. Seems like just when I get things going, something else freezes. Oh well...git 'er done! S.

Brutal winter-Will it affect the spring bite ?
Sinker replied to knightfisher's topic in General Discussion
Nope, no injuries lately. We have school groups starting next week, so have to have everything done. My trees at home won't be touched for a while yet. S. -
I run two 31's for my 12v 55pd.....it will troll steady at 1.5-2mph all day long, no problem, no matter what the wind. I might have to troll with the wind on really windy days though. S.

Yes, too early to predict a late spring for sure. I don't know why people are so up in arms about a tough winter. Its been nothing close to a hard winter. Im tapping trees today. I know its early, but its going to happen sooner or later. S. -

Yep, some of the best fishing, and get a tan without sweating your butt off. LOVE spring hardwater fishing! S. -
The difference from 27's to 31's is night and day. I couldn't believe how much more power I had with the 31's. S.

Check the cells for water while your at it. Refill them with distilled if they're low. S.

Brutal winter? Nah...not even close. Im sick of everybody whining about the "brutal winter" this year. Come on....its canada....it february...its winter. Get out and ENJOY it! Before ya know it, its gonna be over you everyone will be whining that its too hot, or too much rain...whaaaaaaa. Get out and enjoy it. Theres always ssomething to do, no matter what the weather. Sorry for the rant, but it seems everywhere I go lately people are complaining about the "brutal" winter we're having. S. -
My dogs have their starter shots and thats it. Never had a sick dog, and have always had a dog. S.

Last winter was way better....or is it worse? We had way more snow last year. We were lucky this year. Not much snow until feb. The cold is fine, but I get sick of dealing with snow after a while. S.

I tie my stops with 80lb power pro, and yes, Dental floss does work very well. The sponge floats work well, yes. Nice thing is you can bend them to clear any ice off them and they dont break. S.

I miss tightlines. They were awesome!! I have no time for the big box shops. I went to lebarons in Mississauga for the first time this weekend, just because I was in the area, and I spent about $30. They didn't have what I needed. My local guy down the road (BJ's Bait and Tackle) has it all every time......and I can go in and spend an hour just shooting the bull over a cup of coffee if I want. I can also call him and make arrangements for a late/early pick up of bait, or order pretty much anything I might need, whether its fishing tackle, boat supplies/parts, trailer supplies/parts.....screw the big box stores, they got nothing on the smaller shops. I shrink wrap a piece of heavy mono on some, but the snap is the way to go. That way you can add a float to any set up, as long as you have a bobbber stop on the line. Anyone who has fished with me knows I always have a bobber stop on my line somewhere. I use them for trolling as a line counter on spinning reels too. They have many uses, not just stopping a bobber. S.

Yes, the attachment has to be under water. The floats that you slide the line thru the hollow stem dont work as well when its cold. S.

Lets see that beast with a full load strapped on it! Looks good!! S.

All your power with the teen is in that game box/phone. Take it away sometime and see how eager he is to work. I take my sons iphone and he will do anything. Kinda like hanging a steak in front of a dog lol. Keep your chin up man. Hard times make the good times all the better. You'll be ok! S. -
I hope to visit your area one of these days. I have a cousin in YK that insists I would never leave if I came to see her. She could be right too!! She also grew up in the small fishing village I did in northern nfld. We use a lot of the same tools aand lifestyles of the people in your area in the winter. Pretty cool stuff! I miss it!! S.

We used to haul wood for our saawmill on ours. Behind a team of dogs. My dad still does, but not with the dogs any more. He does everything the old way, but the dogs were too much work for him. S.

Interesting. Ive never seen anyone use the same set up as I do. Works slick eh? S.

Listen to Fang. Hes got it. You wont find the big ones In the deep water. If I knew where you accessed I could tell you exactly where to go. Im pretty sure I know where you were though. Also try a 5" white tube. They dont do the chase game there the same as simcoe, but I have haad it work. When I mark fish there, I jig harder...more aggressive. Text me if you want some more info. Ive fished there tons, and caught some real tanks out of there!

Great job for sure. You know the screws and glue on the cross memberss might not have been thhe best idea though. The reason they use the rope (actually sinew if you want to do it up proper ) is to give the sleigh some flex over un-even terrain. Its funny, when I moved to Ontario, I built a small one to pull my icefishing gear by hand, and people looked at me like I had 3 heads when I pulled it out LOL. I still have it, and use it every winter. Great job for sure on that one. It will last a long time. Seal it up with something and your good to go! S.

Ive been using slip floats for trout and whities for as long as I can remember. Bluegill has the set up exactly the way I do it, and even has the right floats. (where did you find those BTW???). The tall top is the key, so you can see it from your jigging hole. They are deadly for any fish that swims on the slow days when they dont want to hit your jigging set up, and super sensitive for light biting panfish. S.

I heard he was at his grandparents. Tragic for sure. S.
