  1. I finished 3 litres last night and have another 140L boiling now. Its been a bit of a process this year so far, but after today I should get caught up. 280L through the pan by end of the day today . S.
  2. I love me some last ice perch too. A couple beauties you have there!! S.
  3. Flickered here a few times too. S.
  4. Beautiful!
  5. Try something orange when the sun is setting on the horizon, or rising. I don't like orange any other time of day, unless i'm musky fishing, but at those times, when things have an orange glow on them, orange lures work great. S.

  7. I believe colours make a difference. Especially panfish. That said, ive trolled 2 identical set ups together, same lure/line/weight, and one rod catches more fish? Its a never ending learning circle. S.
  8. Doesn't effect me much, I've been buying my booze from a corner store for the last 15 yrs anyways. I have 3 of them within 20 mins of my place. The closest used to be a truck trailer until they made it an actual building lol I don't see what the big deal is. Go pretty much anywhere else and you can buy it in the store. I grew up in NFLD, and that's where you go to get your booze. S.
  9. Yeah, a few weeks was me being an optimist lol
  10. I thought for sure your reply would have been something else. I guess we can discuss it at the spot in a few weeks. I'll make sure you get your syrup this year S.
  11. The rain gear my work supplies is Viking. Its not bad. It doesnt breathe well at all, but keeps ya fairly dry. S.
  12. Nice set up! Mine is boiling away now. Put 100L in my pan at 3:40. Started boiling in about 45 mins. We'll see what time I get done at. Should get aroundd 2.5L of syrup by midnight. S.
  13. The load test puts a draw on the battery, and if the voltage drops too much with a load on them, they are pooched. Even a bad battery will charge up to 12+V most times. For what they are worth, id take the piece of mind and get 2 new batteries. Get stranded on any great lake and you'll be kicking yourself in the butt for sure! S.
  14. I have 120L to boil tonight after work. Its gonna be a late night, but I should get a few litres of syrup Last night's boil didn't happen. S.
  15. I just tell her its hers and she's cool with it. My GF would rather I spend money on fishing than food most of the time lol..... S.
  16. Its officially spring when the sap starts flowing. That was sunday at my place. Lots of new birds around too. S.
  17. I always tap 8 smaller trees out of my 25, because the smaller ones run before the big ones thaw out. I always get really nice light syrup from them, and keep that sap separate when I boil too. I have about 90L to boil tonight. Should have a couple litres to go with breaky tomorrow morning S.
  18. Like Bill said, there is still lots of safe ice for a few weeks yet, but there is a lot of snow still to melt on top of it, that makes travelling difficult. The kids would need rubber boots for sure right now. S.
  19. Collected 60L tonight S.
  20. How do you measure sugar content in your finished syrup now, without a hydrometer? Temperature? I use a hydrometer. They are cheap and effective! S.
  21. It will be a good thing for my kids if it gets closed. The fishing has suffered in the last 10 years, and the number of cottagers seems to have doubled. S.
  22. Now you're talkin! The most expensive part of the boil is always the whiskey! S.
  23. I got 25L today from 25 taps. It ran kinda slow. A goodd sunny day and it will be game on! Usual ratio is 40:1, but if you have good trees with big crowns in full sun you can do better. Some trees produce more sugar than others. I set up my storage station and shoveled off my boiling station, so bring it on, im good to go. S.
  24. I double tap most of my trees, but im only tapping the biggest ones for doubles. I tend to tap 8 smaller ones along my driveway that produce earlier than the big ones, but the big doubles produce a lot more once it really starts flowing. I wish I could post pics here from my phone! S.
  25. Thats the first ive heard about a permit. Im going to have to look into that, I leave in 3 weeks!! Thanks for sharing. That area you were fishing can be really good aat the right time!! S.
