  3. yea, if its liberals, then ignore. Look what they've done here. It just boggles the mind. In germany, they also closed down all their nuke plants and are starving for power. I wouldn't use them as compass.
  4. Looks like fake news to me. Fish are by nature carnivores and cannibalistic. Lets face it, they feed on each other in the most violent ways. Too much fake news these days. Sentient? now that's funny
  5. This has to be one of the craziest days for nasty weather, 6 rip roaring thunderstorms since 1pm and they just keep coming, massive rain dumps and a couple blasts of wind that sent the chairs for a loop. Couple of trees down and lots of new sprouting twig ends all over.
  6. Some Inuit have said that polar bears can smell your fear. Like, when you encounter one and you didn't bring your gun, they'll know, cause you'll be shiznitting yourself instead of shouldering your weapon. A tracked polar bear swam a distance of 400kms over two weeks without getting out of the water. A polar bear's fur, the guard hairs are hollow, serving to trap air, maintain heat and help with bouyancy in the water. And the hair isn't white, it's clear, while the skin is all black. Northern Russians used to trade polar bear canines as talismans to southerners. To carry the tooth would help ward off grizzlies, the polar bear being the superior beast. World largest polar bear on record is 2209 pounds, the grizzly (grown large in captivity) 2130 pounds. Polar bears are the strongest bear by bite force and endurance, their average range is far superior, they don't hibernate, they're more apt to not take risk. Grizzlies are more aggressive, meaner, larger claws and likely to fight. In Nunavut the most expensive hunts are through Resolute and Grise Fiord. The largest bears are the furthest north. Hunter's pay $60,000-$70,000 on average per hunt. The Wildlife Office issues only so many tags per year. The community keeps the bear meat and pelt as these are not exportable to the U.S. and some other countries. On a recent trip home from Grise Fiord I met two hunters so filthy rich they wipe they're arzes with Benjamin Franklins. One got his bear in Grise, the other did not get his in Resolute. They've killed everything from giraffes, elephants, rhinos, lions and one fella all but 1 of the 28 big game animals of North America. I don't see the sense in it but, if they're not pulling the trigger and paying big bucks to Arctic communities, then the Inuit are pulling the trigger and asking big bucks for pelts.
  7. If fish feel pain... then I feel for the fish. We'll call it even.

  9. I don't know how to post this on the OFC, I tried, but please check it out, Youtube, titled, watch "elk plays soccer with kids" you won't be sorry you did. It is one of the most priceless things I have seen a wild animal do, let alone an elk, watch as she waits for the boys to return the ball to her.
  10. This discussion takes me back to the musings of my first year Philosophy & Ethics prof.. I think every living creature "experiences pain"...defined as some kind of physical reaction to a force or condition that does harm to the organism. It's a survival mechanism. But that's different than "feeling pain". As Descartes stated some 400 years ago..."Cogito, Ergo Sum"...I think, therefore I am. Only humans are sentient beings that can "suffer from pain"...and although I often think otherwise, it also excludes my beloved dog.
  11. Lets jab a 3/0 in the naysayer lips and see the outcome. Tournament and C&R is just for ego and self satisfaction as far as I believe.
  12. Fun trip, always nice when a plan comes together.
  13. That first link is a hell of a read. Couldn’t possibly bring myself to read more than a little bit of it. I didn’t see anything too applicable on the second link.
  14. Good work and thanks for the report. Hope to see many more reports in the future.👏
  15. I’ve always assumed fish felt pain. Why wouldn’t they? I’m not saying it would stop me from fishing. I kinda figured anybody saying otherwise was kidding themselves. I imagine being able to experience pain contributes pretty significantly to a species odds of survival.
  16. Hello everyone. My family and I went to Balsam lake recently and received lots of tips from the kind people on this forum on how to fish the lake, this led us to success fishing for walleye and pike, so I figured I should share what we did so others can benefit from it. We trolled 8'-10' weedlines with cranks (Berkeley flicker shad 7 firetiger) for the first two days and caught a good amount of fish, but as the water rose in temperature (63f->66f) we started to troll the 12'-15' weedlines again with cranks and had lots of success with the walleyes in doing so. Occasionally we would let the wind drift us over the weeds and I would either rip a bucktail around or soak a slip bobber with a 3 inch minnow, I caught 3 nice walleye and 2 pike using these methods and they all fought hard. We caught over 25 walleye (most between 16"-20") and 4 pike (24"-28") and a few accidental out of season smallies. All in all it was a fun fishing trip.
  17. Ok, hard wired everything. Sender and ground good at console. results: guage.
  18. Seeing as we are redefining every thing, this is a cordless hole punch. Effortlessly punch holes through leather, wood and even metal, and they are fun to use to. LOL.
  19. I worked in the aviation industry as an avionics technician for over 35 years. Many of the instruments we did had a requirement to be tested for insulation resistance on a "Megger" tester which tests the insulation properties of wiring will under higher DC or AC voltages to see if the insulation breaks down. Some Instruments often had breakout boxes that would plug into the connector and every single circuit would be tested against every other one. This was also done to test the integrity of the wiring in rotors, stators, commutators and windings in transformers, motors and generators. There were also some tests that could be done using older analog ohm meters like a Simpson on the higher RX1000 scale that had higher voltage outputs that could detect insulation breakdown. I've even had motor stators test within tolerance but on the low end that barely passed speed tests, so I always replaced them. We also had a tester called a growler that you would place a rotor on and slowly rotate it to find shorted coils in the windings. So what I'm getting at here is that even though the windings on that rheostat could test out ok with a digital multimeter once power is applied there could be insulation breakdown that is causing your issues. Insulation can also break down at elevated temps as coils heat up. Here's a couple of articles on insulation resistance. Also keep in mind that any continuity test testing grounds should have less than 1 ohm readings, anything higher indicates poor ground. https://www.instrumart.com/assets/Megger-Guide-to-Insulation-Testing.pdf https://handtoolsforfun.com/how-to-check-insulation-resistance-with-a-multimeter/
  20. like so many problems I have with my boat...starting a new has been the solution. Its costly, but trying to fix the mess made in the past sometimes isnt worth the time or effort.
  21. I have grounded the fuel sender straight to the battery for testing. Today I will yank out the guage to test and get a 100% answer
  22. In this instance why not teach them how to catch some sunfish and perch? Open all year, bountiful and easy to catch.
  23. Ohh I understand the challenges and excitement of getting set up in a new place.
  24. With such a sizable property, an ATV and a tractor definitely sound like smart investments, not just for fun but also for practicality, especially during the snowy months. A boat would also be great to fully enjoy the fishing opportunities in the area.
  25. Thanks Barry. LOL....yes John, "new tires." In my efforts to replace the one that blew up on my band saw I discovered that that is indeed what they are called. Go figure. And thank ya Sir, it's not my favourite medium to work with but I do like the finished results, indeed though it's not to everyone's taste.
