mattyk Posted April 26, 2013 Report Posted April 26, 2013 Finally had a chance here to fish the shad run on the lower Susquehanna river at the coniwingo dam where it pours into Chesapeake Bay. It was a lot of fun and caught many fish. Shad fight really good on light tackle and are acrobatic and jump and give several good runs. It is a catch and release fishery only. I was able to catch American, Hickory and Gizzard shad, along with carp.
davey buoy Posted April 26, 2013 Report Posted April 26, 2013 Nice catch!!!!!,and a nice looking spot. .
Musky or Specks Posted April 26, 2013 Report Posted April 26, 2013 Yes I've caught American Shad on the fly in the Deleware. Excellent fight on a fly rod. Nice report

mike rousseau Posted April 27, 2013 Report Posted April 27, 2013 (edited) I actually don't think that's a regular carp.... It looks like a crucian... I think... ... Edited April 27, 2013 by Mike Rousseau

Raf Posted April 28, 2013 Report Posted April 28, 2013 (edited) Conowingo Dam..brings back memories. Always wondered what swam above and below the dam. I crossed it many times and spent some time around there and PA State Park when I was working down in Edgewood/Bel Air, MD. Nice part of the world as you head up from there to PA. bassassin Posted April 29, 2013 Report Posted April 29, 2013 was in Philly this week that is an impressive waterbody for sure!
The Urban Fisherman Posted April 29, 2013 Report Posted April 29, 2013 Awesome stuff! That almost looks like a bigmouth buffalo - much more of rare catch when compared to carp! Either way good stuff!
