Guys, it sounds to me like we are trying to create a black and white world in what is essentially very grey! Take your pics, show them or don't it's up to you! Those who have a problem with that, have other options available to them,including sites run by current OFNCer's ! Common sense is not something you get freely, you earn it! fliptheslop Posted May 10, 2007 Report Share Posted May 10, 2007 I dont really get what the problem here is, seems simple if you dont want people fishing in your spots dont show them where they are, and if anyone recognizes the spot than I would guess it really isnt that much of secret. I am a member of several small 'private' boards ... and frankly there is little I see there that I dont also see here ... there is no replacement for a large community contributing to the enhancement of knowledge and because we all have different views .. the opportunity to share in the debates around those views ... and even though some may get a free ride who dont contribute directly ... the rest of us definitely get to enjoy the results of a community sharing with its own for the betterment of all. Here are a couple of my thoughts 1. Does anyone really think that their """spot""" hasn't been fished by someone else already. 2. If you don't want anyone fishing your spot than don't post the pictures or show only a fish against the water with no background I am glad I live here in the northwestern part of ontario. Although there are people who will move over close to my boat if they see me catching fish and they are not catching any (which I admit really burns me up) I know that there are alot more spots on the lake I can go to and catch fish and still have the peace and quiet I enjoy when out fishing. Terry Posted May 11, 2007 Report Share Posted May 11, 2007 many people don't comprehend the power of the internet on a board for lake simcoe someone described where they where getting whitefish in the winter that weekend it went from 50 people fishing the spot to about 800 the weekend after it was closer to 3000..... I find it hard to believe some people are so worried about this, and if you are that worried about dont put your precious pictures on here who really cares. It must be really boring in canada if this is your main worry. Oh and by the way I have 17 posts so Im golden yeah!!!! But its obvious the owners dont want that.....its much tougher to bring in advertising dollars with that format. So, how do the owners present their decision? I know that it is much easier to make it members only, but both are do-able (AFAIK). I do think that to see pictures we could at least ask the lurkers to register and become members though.... ccmtcanada Posted May 11, 2007 Report Share Posted May 11, 2007 I know it's annoying, But should we politely inform people to be a little more discreet when a bad photo appears were the spot is pretty obvious (easy to find within 3 feet???) Kinda the same way we remind people to not do a vertical hold, post OOS catches, etc. What think you. I like this idea. It also already happens I'm sure. I believe it's more of an etiquette thing, and not something you can put a hard and fast rule against. Maybe even put something in the board rules with tips on how to take pics and not give away locations. Some members on here do an AMAZING job at doing this. As an aside...when reading other's comments....the people who are worried about spots being over-run with people are not the same people who are posting the pictures. Those of you saying "If you dont want your spot taken, then dont post pics"...you've missed the point. The point was that other people....who in their excitement/newness to this kind of messageboard, post their reports without giving the photos a second thought. I saw a picture of pres. bush the other day I think I can pin point his exact location now. I can not believe all the whining about this topic it is not that big of a deal. Hey Wild,I can aggree with you to a point,but believe me there are guys out there that will blow up the pic,and disect it. Like on Simcoe say here. I hold up a couple of real nice smallies and ohoh in the back ground is a blue boat house and some land markings. Most use photobucket or guys like me that use my own websites Gallery. If I have to stop using my own website where I can quickly FTP pics to it...then I'll be done posting pics...but I guess many would be happy when that day came anyhow...so no loss. I am of the opinion that; -if a person recognizes the spot (s)he's already been there. -if you want to protect your spot, take care not to reveal too much. Restricting images will do nothing to keep poachers away nor will it clean up the shoreline from inconsiderate anglers. Can we even quantify the damage caused by these 'revealing' images? Of coarse not. Because it's plausible, it doesn't mean it's a problem. I think restricting images is a knee-jerk reaction for something that may or may not be a problem. -Brian Very well put Brian! I agree. Even if you wanted to restrict image viewing is requiring 10,20, or even 50 posts going to be that much of an encumbrance? Seems kind of pointless to me.
