Most Popular Lake Names

I've only fished for like 3 years now with my inflatable and so I search google maps for small enough lakes for me to try. Why are there so many lakes named Little Lake?!!! lol. What happened to originality when towns were naming these lakes way back in the day?

 

And why didn't they think about the future when we'd all be on the internet discussing lakes and getting confused about which one we were referring to in forum discussions?!!

 

Lots of Island Lakes and Mud Lakes too.

Clear lake is popular too.

 

There is a series of lakes north of Algonquin named Christopher Robbin, Pooh, Tigger, Kanga, Roo, Piglet and Owl Lake. I always thought that was funny.

I would have to add my 2 bits for Trout Lake, lots of those in Ontario alone. I would say I have seen the name Long Lake several times as well... Interesting question.

 

 

 

I once fished on Wabatongushi Lake (sp?) its near Wawa. I was told it translated to "no-fish lake".

Seems to be lots of lakes named after birds not fish.

En route to thunder bay there are three lakes called mom, dad, baby lake. I always thought that was cool.

 

Definitly seen my fair share of trout, clear, long and little lake.

Lost lake is the most popular lake with record sized fish, millions of whitefish, monster perch and massive musky. There are dozens of Lost Lake's just in algonquin park, several in the kawarthas, muskokas and as far south as london area.
