My wife and I have two vehicles. One is built in Canada, one in Detroit.

Can anyone guess what the Canadian built vehicle is?

We supply Yom here in Barrie, which supplies the Alliston Honda plant to make thier Honda autos, which are sold here and accross the US boarder.

We keep it CANADIAN MADE.

There is word that Volks will be bringing 3 plants to north America.

Were pretty excited about this, as we supply Canadian/US power built plants ONLY.

That might be your Honda pilot John.

I know my Honda minivan was built in Oshawa.

Actually I had a 1994 Ford Taurus Wagon ya I had to redo the tranny and it was hard on ball joints other than that I loved that car the 3 litre motor ran forever with no problems and it was the most economical V6 engine I have ever driven burned gas like a 4 cylinder it was eleven years old when I got rid of it and it was running well at the time it just was getting too rusty.

I have a friend who works on transmissions and he told me that Vans are not the ideal tow vehicles.

A friend of mine works at Honda and he said the trannies also let go on the Odesseys so for now I hope she holds out 141 000kms.

I have to ask did you put a transmission cooler on your van and did you dump the tranny oil every 50 000 kilometres preventative maintenance goes a long way.

You win. I think the Pilot and the Accord before it are the only Canadian built vehicle I've had, perhaps ever in my 50 years of owning vehicles. Not sure about the GM minivans I had.

I didn't have a hitch on any of my minivans.

I have had every truck currently still available from GM, Ford and Chrysler. Basically all have been OK BUT the only make that ever left me stranded on the side of the road was two of the Fords. My 2 cents worth!

Gary....I read your response..then looked at your pic under the post and thought...wow, I can almost imagine you thinkin' bout all the trucks you've owned while sittin' there in your boat seat without a worry other than havin' a fish grab your line!!! :clapping::Gonefishing:

I'm counting the days until vacation time comes through!!....takin' the whole month of August off this year.....Thanks for givin' me that moment of solitude looking at you pic...I CAN HARDLY WAIT TO BE OFF :thumbsup_anim:

And....I won't be thinking about trucks!!!

Totally agree with Ford sentiments.

I was a former "proud" owner of a 95 Windstar - it was the vehicle from hell. Blown head gaskets, blown motor, 2 blown transmissions, brakes, torque converter.

The only reason Winstar would get a 5 star safety is because it's never on the road - its always on the hoist.

Windstar, Freestar, or Deathstar -call it what you will. but L-E-M-O-N is what it should be called.

I wouldn't drive anything but a ford E150 for work. Have had 3 of them all bought used from Budget Rental.... The 94 had 88K when we got it and it went 376K. It needed ball joints twice (once when the MOOG replacements didn't last?), one water pump and a timing chain. Then when the shop was doing an oil change they cracked the oil pan and convinced the boss that he needed a new touque converter while they had it apart. Actually all it needed was new fluid but I wasn't around that afternoon to stop the repair shop from doing a bit of extra earning. It went through 4 sets of front brakes and 2 rear brakes. The body was getting too bad looking in 2004 to use for delivery so we retired it.

Got a 2001 in 2004 with 76,000 on it. It only needed ball joints, two sets of rear brakes (one was due to the shoe coming apart, raybestos no less not ford's fault) and one set of fronts with rotors. When the bosses son played chicken with a telephone pole and lost she had 155K on it and the insurance paid out 200 bucks more than we had paid for her because it was in such good condition, except for the boomerang effect of the telephone pole LOL (still not sure how that worked but I saw the receipt for the truck when I signed for it and the cheque from the insurance when I picked it up... might have had something to do with the business selling and the new owners couldn't provide the original receipt?)

Now we have a 2003 got it with 78K and it now has 200K. This one two needed back brakes twice and fronts and rotors. Only major problem other than it needs one ball joint, is that the coil pack is weak on number 6 for the first thousand revs so we get a check engine light off and on but it runs great and one of these days I will get the time away from fishing to swap in a new one. The stonegard paint is also coming off but I think that was due to something the dealer did because the rest of the truck is fine?

Other than ball joints and constantly having to adjust the rear brake shoes so that the rear brakes actually work these vehicles have been pretty good considering the abuse we heap on them without really doing the proper maintainance. Of course if we didn't constantly over load them maybe the ball joints would last LOL.

As for imports never owned one but my uncle had a 98 honda accord. He is the type of guy who looks after stuff, maintainence is next to godlyness in his world but when with less than 90K he needed his second transmission he had enough of the rice burners. He went with a Ford Focus wagon and LOVES it to death.... Might have something to do with how happy he has been with his motorhome with the triton V10 that he swears gets between 18 and 22 MPH!!!!

something regarding this thread occured to me while i was on my home today. If you don't want Ford, you also have to avoid everything they have a major stake in as many parts and technologies are shared which includes Mazda, Jag, Land Rover, Volvo and others. I think we can all agree that volvo's has had some of the best cars on the road with one of the most consistent products over the last 30 years.

I'll tell ya what... all y'all Ford cry babies go buy a Dodge and see what happens!!!

I had a Dodge once. It blew up... no kidding.

For about 4 years I drove a Windstar for work. I was a teenager and it was the work vehicle. I actually kinda respected the thing for not crapping out from the abuse I gave it.

This thread has got me thinking I'll need a Lada or an Isuzu, cause every other truck in here has been covered with something negative.

98 Honda accored? Second transmission???Was he using it for a tow vehicle? I ran every honda to the ground. 400,000 Minimum without ever changing a trani. Some of the older models(late 80's) had ball joint issues but that was about it!

Volvo is a solid car and I think its German engineering.

As far as cars? I think Dodge had some of the most reliable low end vehicles.

If you continue to drive a any modern vehicle today that has a misfire you most likely will overheat the catalytic convertor. This will lead to a plugged exhaust system. And I would bet that a new converter pipe will be a few dollars worth-much more than a coil. By the way the "coil on plug" setup on these Ford engines has dropped in price in the last few months from the dealer. I think they are around $70 bucks. Very common problem. Fix it up!

Just to set the record straight Toyota built a HUGE new plant in San Antonio, Texas to build the newly designed Tundra starting in 2007. They also build them in Indiana where my beloved Tundra was born.

Now because of the gas prices and economy Toyota is cutting back on the Texas plant by I believe 50%

If the Big Three built better vehicles like they should, then the imports would never had gotten a foot hold on the American/Canadian market.

I feel bad for the guys and gals that work the line at these car manufacturing plants. They don't design the vehicles, they just put them together. However, when a vehicle stops selling because of bad reliability they are the ones who get laid off while the all the suits who made all the decisions still get their Christmas bonuses. Go Figure ! ! !

I've thought back and the only problems I have had with my Dodges is the 78 ( the fabulous slant 6 ) needed a new ballast resistor so I went to the wreckers and carried a few. Since then I will admit the A/C units usually crap out but outside of the std brakes, tires and standard maintenance I have had to replace the CO2 sensor on my current Dodge Ram.

Now that I've said that I will admit the best truck I had was a GMC 3/4 ton diesel van....what a great machine!!!

That's what I thought when I was young and naive. Go into any car show room and there will be at least one foreign vehicle there, however the salesmen will tell you that your doing the right thing by buying a domestic vehicle. What a bunch of CRAP. As long as you purchase said foreign vehicle from them. then it's OK.
