    I've used Krown for decades. I had a 93 Dodge Caravan that I got rid of in 2011. I Krowned it every year and towards the end every other year. It only had some minor surface rusting when I got rid of it - body was solid. WR

    If they had any of those 4.99 Live Target jointed smelts down here in St Thomas, I would snap them up. The one that I used this spring in the Loring area was on fire for 'eyes. PK

    Darn ethanol! A few years ago on our canoe trip, our 2hp yamahas kept fouling up. We'd take the plugs off and clean them and then it would foul again. Dang ethanol!! The lodge owner gave us an additive (I called in magic elixir) that we used and the motors worked fine as long as we used the additive. Since then, we are only using premium gas along with some additive - no problems! WR

    speed with a worm harness is very important. 1.5mph should be the target speed. I was on the French using rental boats with a 15hp motor - if you forward trolled, you would be at 2.1mph. If you backtrolled, you would get to 1.5mph. It should helps using a fishfinder with GPS to help with speed. WR

    just go to the Grand River Conservation Authority website and look at their online brochure. A heads up, there are specific fishing regs on the Grand - read up on them too before you go. WR

    Lots of good deals for sure. I picked up several packages of Gulp minnows for 2 bucks a pack. A newbie that we are taking up on our annual canoing/fishing trip picked up all kinds of tackle and 2 rods and reels.

    My limit would be 1 hour and it would also depend on how many years I had to do it. If it was 5 yr and then retire - ya. if it was above that I would either move or look for another job. A buddy of mine was a commuter nut. He commuted from near London to Pt. Colbourne every day, there and back, for a year. He also had jobs near Windsor and Sarnia for various periods of time. I could never do it but he did and went through a bunch of cars. WR

    I use the vinegar, table salt and dish soap combination in my sprayer - works great. It kills anything green. The only thing about using it, you get a hankering to go and get some fries.

    Nice pics! I was out last weekend on a small trib and saw 3 redds with rainbows on them. It's awfully late to see them doing what they're doin'

    The NHL should go back to the original 6. The last time they won the cup was the last year of the original 6. The following year the league expanded to 12 teams and guess who didn't make the playoffs. I had to watch the playoffs on my parent's black and white TV and had to adjust the rooftop antenae with the rotor control - but at least they won the cup - ohhhh, the good ole days......

    I'd go for a yak for places close to your vehicle - also get a cart as it is easier to roll a yak down to the lake rather than carry it (very cumbersome!). These things can be real heavy and awkward. If you plan to do portaging to back lakes by yourself, a small kevlar canoe would be my choice. I have both and I like the yak for those accessible places. I have it fitted with a fishfinder, etc. Very very stable.

    I saw him interviewed this morning on Canada AM. His girlfriend lives in Timmins, so they thought they would come for a 3 week vacation,..., in winter. I would have preferred a vacation place that didn't have a white background,..., and foreground. More snow here in St Thomas.... again!

    I have no problem with CO's checking me when I'm out. They are there to protect the resources and catch those who do not play by the rules. Not enough of them IMO. WR

    I like the Ugly Stiks for portaging into back lakes - they take a lot of abuse and stand up. However, if I wanted an ultra light rod, I would probably go shimano but more likely St. Croix. WR

    I have an Ocean Kayak Big Game yak - I'm 6'2 and 230lb. and it's a stable fishing platform. I usually use it on the reservoirs around here but I've also used it on Erie on a calm day. It's a bit of a pain getting it on and off the van but that comes with the turf. I did run into a guy that had a Hobie - they are a cool fishing platform for sure - the guy's seat in the yak looked more like a recliner and he peddled the yak with his feet instead of paddling. But it looked real heavy so I think it would have to be trailered.

    If you want snow, come on down to St Thomas! I woke up this morning to 4 ft of snow on the deck so I took the dog out front. Dang almost the same thing - 3ft of snow on the front walk. there is still 2 ft on the road, so it looks like I'm staying put for a while

    That's an "almost albino" catfish with the colouration on its head. Big fish! WR
