  5. Still playing on the lathe, much fun.
  6. I see you query has been thoroughly answered, thanks guys. Video(s), no there's plenty up there now, not sure I could add anything of value.

  8. I like it Randy! Every man needs a man cave of some sort.
  9. Iron wood no, not yet. Cocobolo yes. Keep in kind most of my wood seats for float rods are done by a good friend. However I do turn some here, this one is for a fly rod, I just finished it moments ago. Orange dyed Padauk finished in 15 coats of CA and fitted with bronze hardware.
  10. Looking good Bud, keep us up to speed on the progress.
  11. No, not to date Albert, though I do have a few pieces here.
  12. Sure it's doable Brian but labour intensive ($).
  13. I had a bunch of wood come in yesterday and I've been busy turning it from square blocks to round. They're a long way away from being reel seats at this point but boy oh boy, they're some real nice pieces of wood. They start as 1.5" X 1.5" as seen here..... Two long pieces that'll make many seats. The top is Padauk and the bottom is Bocote. These are stabilized, Spalted Big Leaf Maple, very nice. Again stabilized Big Leaf Maple, this time burl the bottom one is green dyed and will be on ChrisK's new rod. Not much to look at yet but once they are shaped, finished and polished they'll be gorgeous!
  14. Congrats on the job Gerritt. I worked that very shift pattern for many years, you're gonna die.
  15. No sheephead where I fish these rods bud. Thanks Jacques Thanks Edwin, I'll keep it updated, more guides in finish this morning. Thank you Bernie, it means a great deal to me to know your happy with your rods.
  16. I agree with N.A.W, you're off to a great early winter season.

    BRUTAL

I'll finish this with my sincere sympathies to the grieving. I can't even begin to imagine their pain!
  18. Thanks Lew.
  19. Thanks all. You know what they say Brian, "if you have to ask......" I've been using a baitcaster for steel for a number of years now, love it. Just wanted another option in the arsenal. Will do Bud. While it's not finished I did throw everything on the scale (less the thread I'll use) and she comes in at 175 grams. No Sir, didn't want to diminish it's value. PM me any time Randy if you want to discuss options. Some day Dan, hopefully soon. Thank ya Sir, I do have a Shimano Calcutta 200 TE DC for it.
  20. Excellent recount of better days Erik. I'm saddened to think that those days may never again be in your future. Always enjoyed your big water winter posts and I truly hope we'll see some more in time even if they are less adventurous.
  21. I have a number of blanks here for myself and never seem to find time to work on them. Well after having this particular blank in my possession for almost a year I finally found time to get working on it the last few days. It's a 12' CTS rated 6-10 tied in a twist for a baitcast steelhead set up. It's not done yet but I've made progress on the bottom section, finally! Fuji SiC guides, custom wood by my buddy John Collina and wrapped in candy apple red with silver and red metallics. The wood still needs to be polished up but it's finally coming together. Hopefully I'll get a chance to test 'er out before things freeze up.
  22. Run away and run fast.
  23. Bloody awesome! Great machine Simon, have a great winter season and please be safe.
  24. What a bunch of nonsense. If anyone wants to discuss it seriously go ahead and start a new thread, Snidley won't be involved. My apologies to Ron.
  25. Rare? Seriously?
