Whitefish and Laker Smackdown! - Not Simcoe
SirCranksalot replied to Slayingm's topic in General Discussion
Wow! Nice. What do we need to do to qualify as 'guests'?? -
Would you call 911 - Sort of fishing
SirCranksalot replied to Reelaction's topic in General Discussion
You are right about Rich being right!! The Scugog 'authorities' were quoted in the paper as saying no ice is safe!! So we are always advised to stay off it!! Cars are unsafe, planes are unsafe, even eating is unsafe---you can choke to death on your food. Best not to get out of bed!!!(Ooops--scratch that. More people die in bed than anywhere else) -
NF What to do if your vehicle goes through ice
SirCranksalot replied to woodenboater's topic in General Discussion
Well, quite often they do! At least about some particular aspect. It's usually gained by actual 'field' experience, being 'on the ground'. Read a bit of history---the Wright Bro's, Ingstad's discovery of the Viking settlement----and you'll see what I mean. -
Haliburton Back Lake report, and ice hut launching

Oh well, I guess it meets 'code' then!! -
How to get the PMs attention new rules for all Canadians

I'm puzzled how Terry Fox got into this. I haven't read the whole thread. -
The all too frequent cases of police brutality and wrongful convictions is seriously eroding people's confidence in our legal system.

Hang in there guys!!! It's really worth it. Reward yourself with some of the $ you're saving! Maybe a lure a day??

Haliburton Back Lake report, and ice hut launching
SirCranksalot replied to chris.brock's topic in General Discussion
When you said 'launching' I assumed it had become airborne in a wind storm! Tell me that that stove is not being held up by the blue rope we see in the foreground! Surely it would melt if it's, in fact, rope! I've redgreened a few things myself so I have to admire your handiwork! -

Fishing a Haliburton back lake this weekend...
SirCranksalot replied to castgame's topic in General Discussion
Try these. http://www.web2.mnr.gov.on.ca/fish_online/fishing/fishingExplorer_en.html http://www.anglersatlas.com/mapsearch/ If I knew the name of the lake I could check it out. You could probably post the name of the lake here w/o any problem. Folks are unlikely to flock there given that you were skunked. -
not impressed with home hardware

Be careful with those broad brushstrokes! HH is a franchise. The store in Wasaga Beach is very good. Everyone I've ever spoken to has a good word to say about it. -
or the next time you are on an elevator and a smoker gets on.

Fishing a Haliburton back lake this weekend...
SirCranksalot replied to castgame's topic in General Discussion
I guess I'm the only 1 on here who doesn't know what lake that is!! Have you looked at the FishOn site or Anglers atlas for a contour map? -
I just can't say enough about UPS---and it's all negative!!

Algonquin Park Backwoods Fishing
SirCranksalot replied to BruceCfisher86's topic in General Discussion
I'll second that! -
Same here. I get confirmation that they ship via USPS/Canada Post before I order. A few extra days for delivery is seldom a problem. Couriers in general either (a) leave the pkg outside in the elements w/ a sig. ( leave a card for me to drive a considerable dist to pick up. With Canada Post it's either in a big locked bin below the mailbox or 2 km down the road at the PO Outlet. I guess if you are running a business time can be of the essence, but most of us can wait a few days for delivery.

Must be a good swimmer then, eh?

They got 1 important detail wrong---loud ones don't smell!!

During lunch at work last week, I ate 3 plates of beans (which I know I shouldn’t do due to past experiences). When I got home, my wife seemed excited to see me and exclaimed delightedly: “sweetie I have a surprise for dinner tonight.” She then blindfolded me and led me to my chair at the dinner table. I took a seat and just as she was about to remove my blindfold, the telephone rang. She made me promise not to touch the blindfold until she returned and went to answer the call. The beans I had consumed were still affecting me and the pressure was becoming unbearable, so while my wife was out of the room, I seized the opportunity, shifted my weight to one leg and let one go. It was not only loud, but it smelled like a fertilizer truck running over a skunk in from of a garbage dump. I took my napkin from my lap and fanned the air around me vigorously. Then, shifted to the other leg, I ripped off three more. I thought for a minute that I had crapped myself! The stink was worse than cooked cabbage. Keeping my ears carefully tuned to the conversation in the other room, I went on releasing atomic ass bombs like this for another few minutes. The pleasure was indescribable! Eventually the telephone farewells signaled the end of my freedom, so I quickly fanned the air a few more times with my napkin, placed it back on my lap and folded my hands back on the table feeling very relieved and pleased with myself for my “tactical discharge”. My face must have been the picture of innocence, when my wife returned, apologizing for taking so long. She asked me if I had peaked through the blindfold, and I assured her that I had not. At this point, she removed the blindfold, and thirteen dinner guests seated around the table with their hands to the noses, chorused: “Happy Birthday”…

Today is Weedless Wed, a good time to say congrats to Rich and others who have given up smoking recently. I kicked the habit on Weedless Wed 31 years ago---probably the best decision I ever made. There seemed to be some good news on the radio today. "Stopping before 40 years of age, and preferably well before, avoids more than 90 per cent of this excess mortality; stopping before 30 years of age avoids more than 97 per cent of it," the study's authors concluded http://www.cbc.ca/news/health/story/2012/10/25/smoking-quitting-women.html

This is one of the most rational posts I've read in this thread. I knew that guns are a hot button issue with so many Americans but I didn't realize it was for so many Canadians.

Just because you're not paranoid doesn't mean that 'they' are not out to get you!!!

It wasn't a statement: it was a question! Ref: http://www.amazon.ca/s/?ie=UTF8&keywords=strunk+and+white&tag=msncahydra-20&index=aps&hvadid=56783761&ref=pd_sl_76ir8v1ccm_e There has not been anything resembling a reasonable answer posted as yet, just some preposterous linkage between assault weapons and fly fishing!!

The MNR stocking lists shows good numbers of lakers being put in these lakes. Anybody ever go ice-fishing for them? Any info re access and fishing? IF you don't want to post it pls feel free to PM me. Much obliged!

I'm not 'anti-gun' at all, but I fail to see why the general public needs free access to assault weapons! (Unless I accept the argument that it's a slippery slope between assault weapons and fly-fishing. )
