  1. If you have time and are a paddler, then you hafta stop by Ely or Duluth, Minnesota, but Ely (very canoe culture) may require a slight detour. You planning to come back around the top of Gitchigami ? It's a gorgeous drive.
  2. I stand corrected and not having evening fires, well that's just not right so did Lew's dockside cottage become party central ?
  3. great photos. Love the one of Ralphie asleep in your lap...zzzzzz also looks like the bugs weren't a problem
  4. as long as fish are biting non stop ha ha. can always bring up some dr scholl spray for the next guy
  5. "there's nothing worse than running your finger through the paper" :rofl2:
  6. man your videos are killing me. fish after fish after fish... "almost boring.." man would I love to be in your shoes for a day
  7. what BB said. List/asking price is just a number that agents come up, some realistic, some strategic. For example. some homes in Toronto are going for 100k -200k over asking and some are straight up offers, no wars. Does this mean all homes on the same street are worth that ? Was the starting price fair market ? Maybe not. If the market deems a price unrealisitic, it will sit. and sit. and sit. Am dealing with this right now with late father in laws property in Australia. Very soft market and price has been dropped twice. Think the agent wasn't the sharpest knife in the block either but it's not our responsibility since we're half a world away. Couple of years ago, would have gotten asking +. Not today... As for cottage property prices, I don't ever see them going down, may plateau but that's it.
  8. I'd pass on the beach sand not the least of which is the point Spiel brings up re:legality. There may also be the matter of cleanliness of the sand, too many geese and gulls basically For a child's sandbox, I'd find proper, clean sand and I would think any place that sold aggregate would be able to fill your order for cheaper than HD or Cdn Tire ($4 per 18kg bag).
  9. Lotsa free parking at West Marine and since you're in the Beach, it's a short drive. Noah's is a cool shop but it's further west. Neither website is super easy to navigate
  10. Hope you have a fantastic weekend Lew and everyone else headed up to Lakair ! esp hope you get a beast that knocks those other muskies in your photos, down a notch or two
  11. to keep the OT theme going. more on the govt's closure of the research facility. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/politics/ottawa-notebook/research-on-oil-sands-impact-cost-centre-its-funding-scientists-say/article4266918/
  12. Great photos but I absolutely love the one with the release tail slap !
  13. Great news ! The waterfront is for everyone to use and enjoy and I hope this is the end of the story. Still would like to know which low level bureaucrat came up with this boneheaded stunt
  14. shoulda seen the RIB's used during the Huntsville G20...some serious heaviness going on in a nice stealthy black
  15. Life is about balance and finding it and yours may have been a bit off but you were able to get it back on track. Your kids needed you more than your employer (who sounds like a good one, esp if you're always welcome back) and that's a decision you will never regret. Work is work but kids should always be priority 1 (we don't have kids ourselves, just tons of nieces, nephews and godchildren). Also glad your kids were able to tell you straight up that they needed you, many would just accept it as dad was busy working. You've got a great bunch of kids there and your kids have a great dad.
  16. I'm going to ask some friends if they see anything in the local Chinese papers about this story. Perfect opportunity to educate people about our fisheries and the laws protecting them.
  17. Tremendously ill informed without a doubt. ^ This
  18. deleted. figured out multi quote finally
  19. I was wondering about this but never heard of it before. Chinese do have superstitions and beliefs (Feng Shui and Qingming Festival for example) as do others. Still...
  20. I just want to know WHY ? I can't imagine (well I can) why they would do this. This must have been the parking lot off Lawrence Ave. near the lake.
  21. Congratulations, that is one great looking boat and your first trip is going to be super sweet ! Soooo jealous.
  22. if you're going to Algonquin drive in, I'd look at Rock Lake instead. Bass in the lake but downside is the campground can get noisy so be forewarned Rain Lake is another nice spot, they had a small campground years ago but not sure if it still exists. There's a cabin the Park rents out as well. Rain Lake is one of my favorites in the Park and I believe Ralph Bice or his family have or had a cabin at the far end of the lake. Again bass is what I've caught there. Very pretty lake and around 5 km or so long, but thin at the west end. Have fun where ever you camp.
  23. Have Bell corporate and their coverage is spotty out of big centres. Wolseley Bay: bupkiss but guy with Rogers was iPhoning photos of his fish from out near Rainy Island. New Liskeard: bupkiss as well with that emergency only message. They're flip sides of the same coin imo and not worth the switch unless they throw in some major incentive.
  24. yup, won't be long before he asks for the stop lanyard for the motor lol ! Just don't let him outfish you
