WOW ! That coulda gone in so many ways but I guess when you race the Peak, you have to factor in this scenario and prepare for it as these guys obviously did. Unbelieveable. Check this other video out. While not as spectacular, I find it much scarier, probably because of the pov angle. It's been talked about on flight forums and some think they were overweight hence the slow climb as well as altitude density because of elevation. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yDu0jYiz-v8&feature=player_embedded and the same video with a voice over description of what may have happened and why. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OVM3RRd1vf0&feature=em-subs_digest

Need Recommendations for Lake/Area of Ontario to buy a Cottage

That's a new boat right there -
Awesome ! Which river are you usually on and what boat are you paddling ?

Cudz never said he caught the tip, only that he broke off 10". Could be a defect as far as I/we know. As well much will depend on BPS' warranty terms which may or may not cover all damage (no fault in other words). Also see archer's reply which I think goes to the heart of the matter.

Guess a Mod went in a tidied it up since it doesn't show it was edited. It was pretty specific from what I remember.

It's kinda not ideal but have you considered getting a permit to cut down some of the weeds ? Removes *some* fish habitat but gives you clear swim space. I'd go this route before looking for another cottage, unless of course you want a change of scenery -

Very smart move getting out of there before they found something for you ! What probs are you having downloading your video ? An 8 minute video shouldn't take very long to download at all. Give me a holler if you need any more help. -
Our August Summer Fishing Report

Nice collection of bass you guys got into ! and that is def some interesting water by the rock, very thick soup. gotta ask, that's a great screen shelter you've got set up, who makes it ? I'm looking for something to stifle next year's batch of deer flies -
Good to hear you and your friend had a nice time up there, I trust everyone liked staying in the wall tent ? Also can't beat hitting pike off the dock, that must have been cool for him. I always just motor past that place but if you and Maureen give it the thumbs up, well I guess I know where I'll be pulling over next time !

NF - Keeping kids "unplugged" at the cottage

Pick up a planisphere and if the skies are clear, introduce them to the constellations. You might need to bone up and get some background on what the story is behind them. This should keep them in awe for a night or two. If you have internet access, try and find out when their might be an overhead pass of the International Space Station (ISS). It will appear as a small bright light making a straight trajectory across the sky. If they see it, they can say the've seen it and by extension, they've seen men in space -
those are huge beasts !

NF Is it me or is OFC slow to load ?
woodenboater replied to woodenboater's topic in General Discussion
Well the IT guys cleaned my laptop up good, everything is Speedy Gonzalez now Some files were messing me up and while I'm pretty good at updating software, I missed a couple of things. Basically regular maintenance stuff. I hope everyone else gets their issues sorted out as well. ps-and no these grubby fingers will never own a Windows box. Ever -

maybe it's a sign I should spend less time on the computer and more outside windoze huh ? I'll take that under advisement lol verified and repaired permissions but will take it into the office for some other diagnostics and routine maintenance. thanks for the input everyone. -
Noticed the last few days, well esp yesterday, that OFC pages are slow to load on my Mac. Running Safari and Firefox (the latter not as slow and less often). On Safari I just get the spinning beachball. All other sites load as usual, just OFC. Tell me it ain't just me suffering here tia

A good tarp, rain or shine, is a must for every trip. No cheap blue tarps for me. Too noisy, pain to fold up and they don't last long or have durability. This Chlorophylle tarp provides shade and rain protection over the kitchen area and while reeking of too many fires, takes everything in stride. All you need is some good static rope (4-6mm from MEC) and a few trees and yer laughing. Rig it high, rig it low, whatever the situation calls for. Tents need to be big enough for people to lounge in. My wife and I used to use a four man Eureka (above) for tripping but for base camping, it was too cramped. I'd think for two people, a 6 or 8 man (family tent basically) would be quite comfortable during long days of rain. If it had room for camp chairs, even better. I was solo in this 4 man and it had just enough room to spread stuff out. A tent with a big, screened room/vestibule would be worth it's weight if car camping.

While I believe we need big sticks, we also need to be *extremely* judicious in how we wield them internationally. I think we would also do well to mind what's happening in our own backyards. Canada has had some serious issues (Mayerthorpe is but one) but also look at the Wisconsin rampage and who was behind that. I also do believe there will be a day when every country will need to learn play well with each in the only sandbox we have otherwise we're going to hell in a hand basket. Kinda pessimistic but often times mankind has shown a tendency for taking the wrong fork in the road. and speaking of Mars again, NASA's Mars Reconnaissance orbiter was there to capture Curiosity as it parachuted down to the surface. http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/msl/news/msl20120806b.html -
