Very interesting design there Mike. Had to google it as I'm not familiar with Alps tents (have too many Sierra Designs tents ha ha). Interior volume is a big feature as it doesn't make for cramped living if the weather is down the toilet. Look forward to a report after your first trip using it. btw, where did you find it ?

Was at Lee Valley Tools in Toronto to pick up an order and saw these boxes were on sale. Bought a couple and plan to use them for terminal tackle to supplement the Planos I currently use. They have internal dividers but not very many per box (which is fine as I have a bag of extra Plano ones I don't think I'll ever need). The King St. store had a number of the square boxes but fewer of the larger ones. No idea if the Steeles or Morningside locations have similar stock. The square ones are roughly 5 1/2"x 5 1/2" x 1 1/2" and the longer ones are same depth and thickness but 10 3/4" on the long side. $8.50 for 5 of the smaller ones or 3 of the larger ones. I put a couple of lures and such in the square box for size context. One thing I like about the dividers is that there seem to be better adjustments on them vs others designed for fishing.

Hey BB, Have you ever watched a Soyuz launch ? Similar thing re:pencil, let's just say a very low tech solution to a problem. They also hang an Angry Bird as a zero G indicator -

NF 250 000 000 mile one way trip to Mars

It's a shame science and research isn't getting the love it should but I'll avoid getting into the politics of it. The problem science like this has is that people expect immediate benefits and can't understand/grasp the intangibles. If they can't see a direct affect on their day to day, then it's a waste of money. All they see is $2.5 billion to send a nuclear powered rover the size of a car, to Mars that'll analyze rocks and soil. It's this attitude that saddens me. They can't see the extremely long term, big picture. At some point, imo, science is going to be the difference between life continuing on earth. Or not. here's the link to the Mars Science Laboratory (MSL) / Curiosity's NASA's page. http://mars.jpl.nasa.gov/msl/ -
Yup, Bunk always delivers killer reports and always a great read I'll have to use 'bage' next time I'm parked over vegetation thanks for the write up !

Did anyone else stay up to watch the livestream as NASA's Curiosity rover basically land on a dime and then send back happy snaps ? It's amazing what can be done when you put the right minds in a room. Hope we can learn something from this venture that will expand our understanding of life and what is out there. Regardless, it was pretty amazing to watch. EDIT-my bad. Mars can be up to around 250 000 000 miles from Earth...

Nipissing Walleye fishery in 'crisis': OFAH
woodenboater replied to kickingfrog's topic in General Discussion
Perhaps they should cull the cormorants (no one will object) and see what happens to the fishery. If they can indeed remove 100 000 kg of fish and if walleye are a fraction of that, that's still a significant amount. -
I don't think 680 has aerial traffic all day, just am and pm rush. I think they do like everyone else during the day, RESCU and MTO traffic cameras that and caller reports speaking of which, I understand Apple is smart and thinking of leveraging their user base in conjunction with the Tom Tom traffic app for real time, up to date traffic conditions.

NF- Fresh veg and stuff in Noëlville
woodenboater replied to woodenboater's topic in General Discussion
Easy to miss Joey and Lew. It's tucked inside the old bay and if yer pulling in for gas from 64, you pass right by it while heading for the pumps. Took me a few seconds to figure out why the garage looked different -
A few trips ago, I found the garage at the Esso gas station in Noëlville closed up and was replaced by a small fresh vegetable market/stand. Good place to stop if one is staying on the West Arm or Wolseley Bay and don't want to make the drive to Sturgeon Falls. Got some corn there which was great and everything else looked really good as well. The Foodland is not going to notice anything but it's a nice alternative for some Ont grown produce. Missed the farmers market at the arena (?) as it only runs from 10-1 pm on Saturday.

That is fantastic ! To drop 90 lbs and run a half in six months shows what determination can do as you said, truly inspirational

The PCOC is a super quickie but the Power Squadron course is the one I was referring to which friends said was a detailed course. Their memories may be hazy and yeah, one would think a db of card owners would be a simple thing to maintain.

Walleye Soft Tacos...........oh yeah!

drop the olives and I can be there in about 20 hours white or red ? -
Your course took a couple of days ? I've been meaning to take it and I've had friends who did years ago and it was definitely more than two 3-4 hour days. It was quite intensive from what I remember them telling me. While I think it is somewhat of a cash grab and testing should be tightened up, if it keeps a few people off the water who have no business being on it, then I'm cool with that.

I've always gone with Thule racks for all the trucks and cars I've driven. Not the cheapest option out there but for peace of mind, nothing beats a properly secured boat while cruising at highway speeds. Put a ski box on top and you have extra, lockable storage. CT has Sportrac which is similar and a bit more affordable. In the end, I look at the price of my canoes etc and figure they're worth the $300 or so it would cost to get a good rack system. also bear in mind, and I'm not absolutely positive about this, but your bars can't protrude beyond your side mirrors.
