I would suggest sugars and a more sedentary lifestyle are bigger causes for obesity than low fat diets. I won't even get into portion size and control I cut virtually all of my sugar and bam, there goes the belly keg. -
great report but I gotta say, that last photo is GORGEOUS !! would make a great FB TImeline pic lol

Torn between Deck & Closing Trout Weekend
woodenboater replied to mirogak's topic in General Discussion
Deck. That's one job I'd hate to be putting off, esp while the weather is half decent. -
I've had good experiences with both City and Central, guess it depends on where you're located and which is easier for you to visit.

Sorry to hear Wolseley Bay was more than slow for you but glad the North Channel made up for it. I'm hoping that although the bite was pretty well non existent, the scenery made up for it in some small way I'll have to visit Rainbow Camp next time I visit the North Channel and its actually one I've considered but your seal of approval seals the deal !

An interesting story on the Globe's site tonight about a project to kill brook trout in one Alberta lake in an effort to save cutthroat from extinction. Never would have thought of brookies as an invasive species. http://bit.ly/RBNx3V

roflmao, I got tears watching this clip... I was waiting for that peter griffin snicker...

I know you don't want to do lots of carries but last time I went in at #3, was lining down the Petawawa shaving some humping and, I kid you not, small trout were swimming around my feet. Didn't have any rods that trip but always been meaning to go back with flies and a short rod.

Dana, you need to ask yourself if you're going to breaking trail in virgin pow or walking on established paths that are semi hard packed. For fresh snow, I'd take the float of traditional over the smaller footprint moderns. I also find resting my backside on babiche quite comfortable during tea breaks ymmv

Have had Fabers for years and prefer trad shoes vs modern ones. The synthetic deck will be great if yer travelling in damp snow and it's also less or zero maintenance ( no varnishing). Make sure you get shoes with enough floatation however. Bindings are also a very personal preference but ease of entry and exit are very important esp if one has the wherewithall to travel over water. I've been eyeing a pair of Montagnais style for my next pair (currently use trad sport with heavy lacing). Winter is a wonderful time to be outside and tramping through the bush looking for trout is a great way to enjoy the hard water season.

yes but most still call it Butt

I'd be trying Tim River or Butt Lake access instead of Booth

Before they went under, I loved my STH reel (made in Argentina) but got a Ross CLA a few years ago and so far I like how it feels. There's lots of choice out there for you but it'd be good to be able to take your rod to a shop and see how different reels balance out on Spiel's rod.

Just came back and I'm not sure I'd say 40-45%. Some areas (further east) were coming out and don't imagine much change in a day or two. We had near freezing temps on Sat which probably started the process. Also not sure how dynamic it will be since it's been a relatively dry summer.

NF any one here useing the new Hotspot ?
woodenboater replied to Skipper D's topic in General Discussion
not that different that using an iPhone as a Hotspot, only LTE is faster. If it tethers to USB, that will keep the number of wifi poachers down -

Brook Trout Nirvanna: Fishing The Sutton River
woodenboater replied to solopaddler's topic in General Discussion
Mike There really isn't much more to say than what everyone else has said here already. Totally EPIC trip and same on the report and photos ! I think the polar bear story would be great to hear sitting around some burning sticks and a couple of mugs of Baileys You have time to work on it before next year's Lakair G2G lol Thanks for a terrific hour to start my day ! :worthy: -
Avoid moving water. Period. Unless you have experience paddling a loaded canoe and can get out at must make eddies. I second the west side which is my preferred access. Can't go wrong with Rain, Butt (Ralph Bice) etc.. Either gets you into some nice areas and it's small(er) lake paddling which I find more intimate and rewarding. While Hwy 60 can be super congested, it does take you to some beautiful water as well. Get a couple of good carries between you and the riff raff if you're starting at Canoe or Smoke. and try to make your paddling days short if this is a trip for new canoeists. paddling in the park is great spring thru to fall and it'll be hard not to have a good time !

I'M OUTTA HERE - BEHVAVE YOURSELVES !!!
woodenboater replied to Pikeslayer's topic in General Discussion
Try and make sure you have time for a drive outta St. John's, beautiful country. Cape Spear for first sunrise in North America as well. Have a great time (hard not to really) ! -
damn that's terrible news and I hope your dog has a full and speedy recovery. As for the tools that left broken glass in the bush, they should be rounded up and made to run barefoot through their mess.

Do you remember the Red Fisher Show?
woodenboater replied to 16 Footer's topic in General Discussion
Yup, next to Foster Hewitt calling hockey, this was one of my favorite shows. Whoever owns the rights should get it back on the air, I predict it would wipe the other shows off the sked
