The Lebaron's membership requires one to consider how much they plan to spend in a given year. I used to have the membership when I knew I had some big purchases coming up and the savings more than covered cost of the membership. You have to do the math on that one every year whereas the MEC fin is for life. and further to Lew's and Mike's point on customer service. I have a Cloudveil jacket that has a blown out zipper. MEC doesn't really carry much Cloudveil procudt anymore but they're sending it out for repair gratis. Will take 4 weeks or so but it's costing me nada, bupkiss. Kinda OT but I've also heard great things about Patagonia service and their gear is also top drawer. and Yvon Chouinard is HUGE on flyfishing. My next pair of waders may likely be Patagonia.

Canada Post to stop all door to door serveces in cities
woodenboater replied to tb4me's topic in General Discussion
so I wonder if the flyer people will make a big stink as that was also a revenue stream for CanPost. I'm thinking this might be a trial balloon... -
Lew, you gotta get on their email list as they have free shipping deals every now and then. Buy online and wait for postie to deliver !

Watershed bags are THE best out there imo. I've got a couple that I use for spring whitewater trips and they've never let me down. Bit more spendy than other brands but you get what you pay for. Roll down bags WILL leak if they see any amount of water so I don't use those for anything important.

actually when he hit the deck in real time, it didn't look as bad as the slo mo. still the outcrop would have hurt something nasty ! goes he shoulda taken a better running jump...

NHL makes 12-year deal with Rogers for broadcast rights
woodenboater replied to lhousesoccer's topic in General Discussion
Rogers broadcasting free games ? hahahahahah… the only way this could happen is if the games are sold out, like blackouts. the ONLY reason to broadcast games would be the revenue from commercials but even that might pale beside ppv etc.. glad CBC didn't try to match them, people would be screaming for corp heads if they spent $5.xx billions for ALL rights. -
some of the difference in tax increases can be directly attributed to the 2/3 stop scarborough subway proposal. we're paying more for a few stops, not very good use of funds imo. ymmv and I live in yyz so I have to deal with what happens at 100 queen st west.

He's fake in that he tries to come off as a 99%er but he's not. Daddy was an MP in Harris' gubmint and he was born into money. Globe and Mail broke down his financials and it's good reading. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/toronto/assessing-the-financial-affairs-of-average-guy-mayor-rob-ford/article15574327/#dashboard/follows/ as well, the numbers he spouts as savings ($1 billion) has been broken down as well. I prefer facts > fiction ymmv

If you've got a chainsaw, try noodling the round then working it down it in sections.

I would start at a place like Grassroots (stores on the Danforth...by the Commons and on Bloor St. near Brunswick Ave in the Annex). I bought some organic corn seed this summer but can't remember where I got it. The package is at the cabin so next time I'm up, will see if there's a price sticker.

UFC 167 George St.Pierre title fight, good link
woodenboater replied to ehg's topic in General Discussion
GSP should retire and really po White who acts like a bully. He often times sets up matches based on popularity and not on rankings. If it smells good for ppv, it's on regardless of deserving challengers or not. He doth protest too much iow -
UFC 167 George St.Pierre title fight, good link
woodenboater replied to ehg's topic in General Discussion
Didn't see the fight but there are some who swear Hendricks tapped when GSP had the guillotine sunk in. GSP should go out on a high note and just take super fights. Rory, that was a surprise. Guess he thought he had it in the bag being the favourite, still think he has the goods and this loss *should* do him good. -
Rob Ford being grilled this morning by TO city council
woodenboater replied to Old Ironmaker's topic in General Discussion
*MIGHT* have a problem ? Dude, he has serious, serious problems and just refuses to admit them and unless he comes to the realization that he has issues and needs help, this train wreck can only end at one destination. The fact that he has a ton of enablers isn't doing him any favours, esp starting with his mom. Have you read the recent police ITO ? assaulting a staffer, possible hookers at city hall, likely snorting blow etc etc..Staffer watching him down a mickey *AFTER* a high school football practice THEN driving off ? Not to mention giving his buddy David Price a job at twice what the previous staffer got. For doing exactly what ? No one knows….<smh> where to begin…. -
can you get a photo of the genny ?

I wonder if this morphed into Kipor generators ?

If I had to do it all over again, I'd sink a good chunk into property. Don't even want to think about what my bank account would be like if only I'd bought years ago. Agree with precious metals, gold will always be the go to in bad times. Platinum and palladium are other key metals. Much will depend on how risk averse you are or aren't. I'm kinda risk averse now so would do the compounding low rate over long term idea Big Cliff suggests.

unbelievably sad and tragic. just speechless.

Great report Joey and once again, great photos. I REALLY love this leaf photograph, this would make a great post card or better yet, printed large on a wall. I gotta try TJ's spinning turkey method, reminds me of people who do goose the same way (person who spins the bird must get tired though ha ha)

Fire starters for emergency if needed. Do you carry anything?

I found the only problem with lighters is that if you're freezing cold and near hypothermic, getting your fingers to grasp and trip the lighter is pretty tough. magnesium sticks and dry tinder also work well. ymmv -
shop had ms170 stihl for a nice price
