  1. Welcome aboard Kris, great bunch of folks on this board with lots of help. I'm relatively new here as well but never feel like an outsider. IF you want company to fish, I too live in Mississauga and would love to join you sometime. Covering all the gas $ is our norm if someone brings their boat. I've got a 14yr old who loves to fish and outfishes us all the time. It's good to see your child take an interest. If you're interested pop me a PM. BTW Kris, what other work does your company do? Would they be able to apply a different colour finish to say a shotgun receiver?? Cheers Henry
  2. As if we all needed reminding to spend them with our families. Love the McG. anyways, what is everyone up to? Hope you all get out to do some fishing of course as it is perfect out right now, at least in my Mississauga backyard. Sun on the deck, feels like plus 2 out right now, and my smoker smoking away with a 10lb brisket. share your catches of the day and bring your kids out. or whatever you plan on doing let us know. Could go for a ride it's so damn nice out ATM. Simcoe was fun Saturday, tons of perch but that storm in the AM was ridiculous, as was the walk back with the fresh thick snow. Cheers Henry
  3. yes took me 3 tries to pass last spring. 50 questions and need 80%. Buddy who took it previously also felt it was much more difficult than his version. taking it online you have to wait a certain amount of time before you can even proceed to the next section, mandated so called apparently thinking you will study that much more prior.
  4. are those realistic numbers? what did they say about a deal that looks too good it might be a sign to pass on it. I may be out of the loop on resale $ but that just sounds way off to me... This is from a dealer or private? Do you know the owner if private? If it's a dealer at that cost I would run from it. Just my $.02 BTW stay away from the Liberty, just saw a terrible write up recently from owners reports through the Star.
  5. We used Nipissing Ice huts/bungalows during the GTG. Derek and Mike were great. Took us out to a couple locations and go us into some decent fish, when there were none at the huts. Would love to have been on south shore again and get the walleyes we got some that weekend an some whitefish. They tasted as good as the walleyes
  6. Yes I pretty much agree with solo's advice. Stick with the WF line or even a pike or bass taper, a moderate action rod which will make casting so much easier to pick up for a beginner. As a second back up set up if you can I would suggest you go intermediate. 30lb backing is more than sufficient but as you go along you will start to figure out what you prefer and what you don't. We can start you out here but you need to just get out there and figure out what really works for you specific application. Good luck and enjoy, it's a whole different world out there. PS learn these knots in no specific order: perfection loop, nail knot, arbour, albright.
  7. And that catch relieved NE one of their time outs. Nonetheless fantastic catch. I called it weeks ago in the other thread. NE was going down.
  8. that's odd to hear. it was "the" spot last year when we went. Most bass and PB walleye.
  9. Has anyone any idea if the ice is sufficiently thick. I called into the bait shop in Bayside and they are not even sure, at least only on a day to day basis. Was looking to try and hit Dwight Bay this weekend maybe Saturday. Any members been up?
  10. too bad we couldn't get out to your area and meet everyone. We ended up I don't know where. Roughly 4km from our huts but was told we could see an island and beyond was Callender Bay we did well with some nice jumbo perch, walleye, and two good size whitefish. Fished in about 49FOW. have to say the whitefish is very good.
  11. Thanks for the tip Nipfisher. Our hut is over 28fow. Our operator is going to take us out after lunch to another spot. I'll see if I can get him to drop by your place too. cheers
  12. Hey guys we are here also in our hut. SLOW tonight. Any tips? What are you guys using? We got the usual glow in the dark, minnows, jigs, rapala jigging raps, etc. Need to get the skunk out. I also drove out in my van and unloaded. thick ice everywhere, but chickened out and then parked back at the lot off Birchgrove
  13. Just booked my overnight hut yesterday! should be fun, son's got a couple days off after exams
  14. Lets get the hate on New England now! GO GIANTS
  15. Christmas Vacation for sure followed by Christmas Story.
  16. it's pricey and if you have had a chance to play with it, the reel is how should I say? Kinda cheap, actually really cheap. You're better off using your own fly reel maybe a 3 weight should be fine. That's what my son is doing for one rig. Using his orvis CFO.
  17. Yes I did, do most of my shopping there as their prices are usually the best when a product is in stock, which unfortunately isn't all that often. I don't mind the level of service, no need for hand holding and pats on the back for me. sometimes I just wanna get in buy the item and leave, but I go enough that there are a couple staff that know me and we exchange pleasantries. I wanted to buy my Vinci from them yesterday too, to take advantage of the sale but no stock, so bought it at Sail today and they were over $100 cheaper. Got lucky It was funny when at Sail, a sales guy recognized me and said hello. Turns out he left Lebarons for greener pastures.
  18. If you haven't picked up your new pop up yet, you owe it to yourself to look at this model. Bought mine after waiting for one that will never arrive from Lebaron (on back order HT 4 person like most items there) I had a peek at the Clam and new Rapala Sherpa at Sail yesterday and was not impressed at all. Cheap thin material and didn't feel "nice". It's my first hut after fishing with a couple buddies who had a 6 man Woods and HT INstaShak last season. The materials are first rate, strong zippers, supports are super bulky and reinforced, and space is generous. Windows are all velcro which means they are all replaceable if the need arises and to let in some air. The anchors are like over built monstrosities which should be more than up to the task. And it actually fit back into the case for backpacking duties. Overall very pleased and great price as well just a tad over $200 tax in, if you're a member. Here's to hoping it holds up well during the season, but if reviews are any indication we shouldn't have anything to worry about.
  19. yep OVERDRIVE, her library books will be sympatico. her notifications from the library will actually say overdrive title ready for download. bit of a PITA to set up but afterwards very streamline
  20. Don't forget H O N D A 14 yrs and still running strong
  21. I too am considering this and Costco usually has your back on any issues with the product. The thicker denier material is a good selling point. I mentioned in Dana's other ice fishing thread about my buddy having some issues with his, like ripping in a couple areas. might just order this one tomorrow. BTW how are the zippers on the door flaps?
  22. Dana, as was mentioned perhaps go with a buddy once or twice to see if you want to drop the coin. Just need your basics really, but am considering getting a hut this year too. I had ordered the same hut from Lebaron but the 4 man is on back order as of this week. I already got the little buddy because I need it, and this year will bring a pad for the feet. However, my buddy had the same hut last year and had to return it twice because of one issue or another, so am in the process of sourcing a different one. Trying to find a pop up with thermal fabric.
  23. I think he means in Hamilton by Upper Kings Forest Park. sorry can't tell you, never been and doesn't show on Fish-on-line
