  1. We may have just solved the sasquach mystery.... Nice pics! Looks like great family fun.
  2. I spoke to the seller and he said as long as the new motor doesn't push the boat over 60mph it would be fine.. I want to know if there's any truth to this. +60mph in that boat? Hmmmm Does that sound right?
  3. Like the other guys say...V8. However, you have to look at how often and how far you tow and compare it to the amount of driving you do without the boat behind you. If you drive 45 mins to work and tow your boat 3 klicks to the local ramp...I'd think about it. But out on the highway with the V8, you'll forget the boats back there. "Wow, I could have had a V8!"
  4. I really have to get over and get a HDS lesson from Joselyn. I need to completely set up my boat with bow and console electronics and I've pretty much decided to go with the Lowrance HDS series. So many options and variables!
  5. Hey guys, are those the insulated ones? Thanks Just found the non-insulated sets. Sorry
  6. Talking about how to drive is like talking about religion...but I'm jumping in! I freaking HATE it when stubborn, ignorant people that sit in the middle lane while vehicles are passing them on both sides. What's worse are the people in the far left lane that figure "I'm doing the speed limit so why should I move?" Grrrrrr. If your being overtaken by other cars, move to the right! Ever wonder why it's illegal to overtake a car on the right in some european countries? It's dangerous that's why...a move to the right should always be reserved as a safe direction. Not here though. Last month I saw a car sitting in the left lane during very light traffic and a police cruiser pulled up behind it. I thought "Finally!" Nope...cruiser moved to the middle lane with no signal, passed on the right and then for no reason moved back to the left lane even though there was no one around. Awesome, people don't have a clue, cops don't either. Ok...done with the rant...go ahead jump all over it.
  7. I was thinking the same thing!! The food looks ok...it's the hub cap I was wondering about.
  8. As Roy commented, the $5 extra card is a great idea. I'm going to order one and stash it onboard in a ziplock bag with the boat registration and an extra set of keys. 'Cause you never know...
  9. Wow. What the heck is going on with these youngs guys? Too much of everything maybe. Sad news.
  10. Hey Jayo, You can launch anywhere along Erie's north shore from Port maitland east...Crystal Beach, Port Colborne, etc. right up to and even into the Niagara River. Watch the weather forecast for winds. Depending on your boat, a SW wind is the worse wind and it can get lumpy - fast. There are smallies from 4 feet of water out to 40' so again, it's all about your boat and your comfort level. The eastern basin of Erie is fantastic, pick a spot and go have fun.
  11. HAHA Good point!! Just read your last post and I don't blame you for being ticked off. Who gets their jollies causing someone grief?? I always imagine this is done by some little coward sitting in his Mom's basement. How would you like to meet them face to face? Just once!
  12. [quote name='DanD' date='29 August 2011 - 01:45 PM' timestamp='1314643547' When the thong came out as few years later; Dan. That's friggin hilarious! Thongs for the memories!
  13. How do we know this is from "you"? LOL
  14. Great work! That's the neat thing about Erie, you just never know how big the next bite will be. Congrats!
  15. That's very funny. You just know that will become a tradition now at your house!
  16. It really doesn't matter what speed I read your condescending post, getting an honest job done at a fair price should not come done to who's within anyone's social network. Sure, you want to cut someone a break who you see every Sunday morning, that's awesome and it happens all the time. But what if you don't know a plumber? All I'm saying is it should be reasonable. I also understand that different tradesmen with charge differently based on experience, quality of work, timeline and work load. That's expected. The gentlemen who started this post was in a situation whereas he had no recourse than to hopefully discuss the bill and try to get it either back in line or he needs to understand the scope of work as to better understand the billing. This is a much easier conversation to has BEFORE the work is done. That's all I'm saying. And it doesn't sound like he had the luxury of "knowing" a plumber first. And BTW, I too am a licenced trademen and my father had his own plumbing, heating and electrical business. I am now responsible for a 16M a year company of which I subcontract approx. 800K a month. Not plumbing. All I expect from any of my subcontractors is they be open and honest. I expect them to make money. If they don't, I lose them as a go to option for future work and we both lose. I've even had subcontractor up their price if I think they're trying too hard or if I think they have misunderstood the scope of work. Ethics has to come into play at every level of business, including yours.
  17. Next time I have a busted pipe, I going to church! Really? I was so busy schoozing the electrician, landscaper, dry waller and cabinet maker I forgot the plumber!
  18. Ch312, Musky Mike is still correct. You need to know exactly what in included for that price. Also, remember that you'll pay 6% Michigan state tax at the dealer AND pay the HST/GST/PST combo as I outlined at border and when you get your plates. Canada does not care you paid Michigan and visa versa.
  19. That can happen and if the quote seems high, you can always say no. It's too late after the works done. Go get another quote.
  20. Did you not get a quote up front? I always ask for a quote and state that ANY work that gets done beyond that must be approved or it would be paid for. That keeps people honest. Jobs don't get dragged out and I don't care if he pays his kid $1000 an hour. Oh, and not verbal quotes - written...quotes with a list of the work to be done and dollar amounts. Any good tradesmen/businessmen has no issue with writing a quote.
  21. You added "out the door" to the description of both boats. Do those dollar values include sales tax? Michigan sales tax is 6% and Ontaio is 13%. I will assume they do. The Ontario boat is straight forward...minor travel expenses depending on where you bought it. The Michigan boat will break down as follows: - $24,000 USD (+6% state tax?) - Currency exchange = the Canadian dollar is about .02 above the US but the bank will charge you that on the exchange. Call it par. - 1400 kms round trip averaging 17 liter/100 = $250 - one night hotel + food = $200 - HST on the boat and motor payable at Canadian Customs - $24,000 subtract trailer @$2,600(approx.) = $21,400 x .13 = $2782.00 - GST on the trailer payable at Canadian Customs - @2,600 x .08 = $208 - PST on the trailer payable at the Motor Vehicle Licencing Office = $156 - RIV(Registrar of Imported Vehicles - $195 + HST = $220.35 - Trailer inspection at Canadian Tire before licencing = $40.00 - Trailer licence = $30 Total = $27,886.35 Something else to consider...boat licencing. If you buy the boat in Canada from a dealer, it will be registered and have the numbers on it when you go pick it up. If you buy the US boat, you will have to complete a form and send supporting documents to the Pleasure Craft Licensing Center in Fredericton, New Brunswick and wait about 1 1/2 weeks for your license. No operating the boat until the numbers come. Now, to answer your question, no one can. The boats are different and only you know what they are worth to you and if your will to pay more for one over the other. It appears that I may be trying to sway you to purchase the Canadian boat from all the expenses I listed. It's not the case, in fact I bought a US boat in July because it was a much better deal than anything I could find here. I just want you to factor everything in before you make YOUR decision. Good luck! If you have any import questions, let me know. Dave
  22. No your not alone! In fact, about a year before it happened to my dog I was at a buddy's house and he was reeling his lures up to the tip of the rod before leaning them against the table. I had to ask and he said "the damn dog will hang himself on the hooks" I laughed like hell. That was all I could think of that day in my garage! Oh, and you can still see a small black dot on my dog's nose...a cruel reminder.
  23. Wow! I read your comments and my eyes popped when I read the part about your dog. Two years ago I was sitting on my deck when I heard crashing and banging in my garage. I look in to see my fishing rods flying around, bouncing off power tools and my yellow lab peeling line off a baitcaster like a friggin 80 lb tuna. I can't write what came out of my mouth. The dog went in and sniffed a crankbait and snagged a treble hook through a nostril. He went nuts and I don't blame him. I lost two rods and 5 years off my life in stress before I managed to stop the dog, get side cutters and cut the hooks. I sweat just thinking about it. I still feel like a about it...poor bugger. My rods NEVER just stand up within reach of the dog now. It was horrible. PS. Oh before someone asks, the Boga didn't work either
  24. I did the same thing last Friday...rushed down to CT, saw it was stark white and put it back on the rack. Maybe I'm old fashioned, I'm ok with tying on a leader to downsized poundage/diameter for finicky fish but tying on 10lb fluoro to hide 10lb whatever?? Just me I guess.
