Nice read! Thanks for taking the time. You've got the bug now! I just love Perchin, when they're bitin! I also second Crappieperchhunter's suggestion that you really don't need live bait for Perch, especially this late in the season. They got the feed bag strapped on and will eat just about anything that's put in front of them. I also find that for numbers, the artificials out fish minnows two to three to one... and it has nothing to do with which bait is better, it has everything to do with how fast you can hook'em, get them in, un-hooked and your bait back down the hole! By the time you re- bait you lure and get it back down the hole, the guy using the artificial has already caught two or three more! Number two Jiggin Rap, with the Berkely Power Maggots, I prefer white, are deadly, especially this time of year! Sunny days, I prefer the blue and silver and cloudy days, fire tiger! HH

The best thing that could happen to the Leafs, from a Leaf fan's perspective would be for them to not make the playoffs, for the next three years! They have to re-build and in todays NHL, you can't buy a team like you used to! The best thing that could happen to the Leaf's from a management point of view, would be for the Leafs to get into the playoffs, so they can gather all that playoff money and give it to the Teachers Pension Plan! It's pretty obvious that these two groups have completely separate agendas. The only way the situation at MLSE will change, is when The Teachers Pension Plan no longer holds the shares they do and the upper managment of MLSE, Peddie and his cronies, are turffed out the door! The Leaf's need a hockey guy in charge, not the current management or ownership! HH

I think it's fair to say that there are compelling arguements for both sides of this contentious issue. I tend to reflect on the past when weighing out the information presented, before considering my position. My past experience has told me that whenever there are two sides to an issue, somewhere in the middle, is where the truth lies! On the side of the "green" folks, ie global warming is killing the planet, I feel that they are being bombarded by the media and special interest groups whose own self preservation is fueling the carbon fire! On the side of the "anti's", global warming is a farce, I see special interest groups and only recently, media reports condeming those who believe that Global Warming is upon us! So, here I am, standing in the middle, trying to decipher whose right, who's wrong and which camp should I join? Well, now the cynic in me rises to the surface! And funny enough, my cynical self is renowned to be CHEAP! The doom and gloom sayers, from what I can tell, will do what comes naturally to them, spend someone else's money! The nay sayers just want me to continue to spend my money the way I have been! As an individual, I can't win! My trust in governments and the private sector leaves alot to be desired! They are only in it, what ever it is, for themselves. I believe that we should all do anything we can to limit our effect on OUR environment, but I also believe that alternatives need to be provided, before we all throw our hands in the air and simply buy into everything that's being said. My biggest target right now are the people who are once again. playing to the insecurities of others. These are the people we all need to take notice of! The folks who are profiteering from this should be shot! As I write this note, I keep coming back to the same question that keeps running through my mind... I wonder how many people are picketing in front of the White House right now, in either of these camps; -global warming -the war in Iraq! Funny how people in power can direct the publics attention away from one topic, onto another, with the right help! Can you imagine the pressure the White House would be under if both of the above camps joined forces to form a singular focused politcal lobbyist? How many people out there right now are actually scared by the global warming issue? Fightened people are much easier to direct, then those who are not. HH

I've heard about getting "cotton mouth" before, but that's carrying it a little too far! HH

Anyone wanna help me make a decision? :P
Headhunter replied to Steelcat's topic in General Discussion
From my office tower high above the downtown, but with a somewhat restricted view, I'd have to suggest the water front as your only viable option, There is significant melt since yesterday, but I can see that the channels are still iced over. Perhaps a coupla more days of warm weather or some rain will open them up for good. HH -
I believe the cost differential will be determined by the manufacturer of your BBQ. It's definately worth doing, but I won't be able to tell you how to do it! One thing to keep in mind, I believe that propane burns hotter than natural gas, so keep that in mind during the heat up period. HH

Tony, try a flippin stick on your cat! It's great! When presented properly, I was able to get my cat to jump a coupla feet in the air, using a flippin stick and the technique you described! It aint like being on the water, but can sure help pass the long winter away! The cat liked it so much, I had to hide the rod, as he would sit beside it and cry until I picked it up! HH

I remember watching Red Fisher, fishing somewhere in the North West Territories, for Pike and using a bra cup on a hook! And they were catching biggins! HH

I'm just really glad that Microsoft doesn't make jumbo jets as they would be falling from the sky on a regular basis! It never ceases to amaze me how one of the worlds richest companies can continue to deliver marginal at best products and still maintain such a huge advantage over it's rivals. HH

Question on getting my lures down deep...
Headhunter replied to ssauvain's topic in General Discussion
Offshore snap weights are the ticket! You can change the weight you use to any application and the depth they will travel is dependant on the amount of line let out. Simple easy and flexible. HH -
That's the one I have Gary. It works well, I like it alot! Got it a LeBarons a few years ago. I know I got it for free, to shut me up, so I can't recall what price I would have paid! LOL HH

I've learned through a buddys' experience that fishing and fisherman are not considered sexy! How do I know this? My friend has been single for atleast the last 6 years. He's tried many methods in order to meet women and begin a relationship. Online dating was a last resort. Under his profile, he indicated that fishing was his passion and included a pic on himself, standing beside his boat. BAD MOVE! After connecting with some women who seemed interested in his profile, he came to learn that many if not all were turned off by the boat and his fishing passion. They felt he would not be the kind of "partner" they were looking for as he had obviously too much affection for the sport and his boat! Not what the "modern day" woman is looking for, apparently! HH

Can anyone recommend a good tackle and bait shop in T.O.?
Headhunter replied to 007's topic in General Discussion
The shop on Gerrard street, near Greenwood is called Pro Fishing Tackle. The lady in there is not mean, she is just cautious with her stuff! If you would like to see her smile, just tell her you are spending CASH! The price will drop and the service will go up! As Lew mentioned, Rerries is located on Kingston Road, near West Hill. The dude running the place is very weird, actually follows you around the store as you browse. His product line seems to be mainly old tackle, bought up from other shops that have closed their doors. Factory 2nds can also be found there. Be careful on this point, as there's a reason they are 2nds! His prices are higher on average than other shops, but you can barter with him and as mentioned earlier, the price will drop if you are paying cash! It's actually a decent shop to find rare or no longer available stock. Hope this helps! HH -
Need Help! Can't decide between 2 Spinning Reels
Headhunter replied to Minnow's topic in General Discussion
I'm a Quantum guy! I really like the feel of the reel, the sensitivity of the drag etc.. . I've only ever had one Shimano, I don't recall the model, it was years ago. I ended up throwing it in the garbage as the drag system kept loosening on it's own and one day, the spool flew off on a cast! That was it for me! Been buying Quantums' ever since! I have a Penn spinning reel, but it's pretty heavy. I still have a number of old Mitchells that still work well, but If I was to buy another reel, it would be a Quantum! HH -
FnS... the pleasure was all mine! I thought for sure, that when I got home about 4 hours later than expected, the Warden would have prepared her dinner specialty... "hot tongue and cold shoulder" but she's mellowing with age and just chocked it up to boys will be boys! I'm thinkin one more trip, if the ice on Cooks holds up.... I still don't have any perchies resting in my freezer! HH

Why not enjoy the best of both worlds? A console for runnin from spot to spot and a kicker to troll etc... problem solved! And the fuel savings will definately add up! HH

Haven't attended the show in about five years. Main reason, I could virtually attend any show that takes place at that venue, be it the "home Show" or what ever, and find probably 50% of the same vendors at these shows! It used to be a show geared to the outdoorsman, now it's a show geared to making money for the site operator and a large contingency of retailers who rent a space at every show the Trade Centre offers! Been there seen that, bought it, felt ripped off, done! HH To UB... it's been my experience that the "hicks" have more common sense in their poop, then most city people have in their entire being! I learned a very long time ago, never judge a book by it's cover!

Well, I was gonna watch the show, but it was on at the same time as The Simpsons and.... well you know! Just took the quiz online, scored 135! Man, I thought I'd maybe break into the 90's but... think I'll ask for a raise!LOL HH

Hooked up with FishnSled and his Dad on Sunday for some Simcoe Perchin. Left T.O. at 5:30 Sunday moring, arrived at FnS's Dad's place in Sutton at around 6:45 for our 7:00am meeting. After a quick trip to the bait shop for a scoop of minnows, we were off to "one of the beaches" near Sutton. Our first set up was in about 10- 12 ft of water. Both Will and his Dad were runnin minnows and me, my ever faithful jiggin Rap and Berkley power grubs. We caught five dinks fairly quickly and then nothing for about half an hour. We decided to head out to deeper water and made our way out to a group of huts on the far side of Georgina Island. Plenty of ice, 12 to 20 inches depending on where we drilled. No snow left on the ice, which made walking an interesting time! FnS had his snowmobile and he and his Dad would run up ahead of me, while I walked out. (or should I say slid out!) After agreeing on a spot, FnS would run back (slowly) and pick me up and run me up to our spot. Well, after an hour here and an hour there, we decided to begin to work our way back... as we had not had a bump since our first spot, earlier in the morning. We probably stopped half a dozen times, drilling three holes, trying to find water holding fish. As we approached our first spot of the day, we agreed it would be our last of the day as well! Small schools of fish would pass through the area. so we would get 10-15 minutes of action, then the same of inactivity. Wrapped it up at 4:00pm with a three man total of around 60 perch. Mostly dinks, but Will's Dad, got to keep about a dozen for dinner, so it all worked out well! Thanks again FnS for allowing me to hook up with you and your Dad! Had a great time, walked a ton (got my exercise) and as your Dad said, we got out, we laughed and we caught fish! Does it get any better than that?! HH
